Clive, are the diffs the same ratio? it may be easier to pull the diff and cover and send that, and are they the same front to rear?

Contacted the webmaster of the ROF Nottingham site about pictures of Pigs and Hornets, here is the reply:- Adam There are a couple more pictures of the Hornet on the site under Processes / Fitting & Assembly - Photo Numbers P40201_025 & 026. Unfortunately the original images we have were not particularly high quality. A lot of the images we have rescued when the site was closed are taken from plate glass negatives! We've not come across any others of either the Pig or the Hornet so far, but if we find any others we will endeavour to put them on the site. regards Website Manager So there you go, a very nice man!

I have a complete back axle, and it has a PTO for a winch, it is from a Humber 1 ton truck, the vehicle was fully operational prior to it been laid up some time ago. Could get it couriered on pallet etc, drop me a PM.

We used to use diesel to acheive that glossy look when i was in the mob, good to the environment and motorcyclists apparently :-D

I'm looking at the pictures of the armoured shells sat on the trestles in the factory, and noticed something different from my Mk1 FV1611b, in that there is an extra strip of metal running along the bottom of what would constitute the sill of a normal vehicle, my vehicle just finishes off as a flat plate. Is this a difference between factories, or do you think it may be put there during construction and removed at a later date?

Get lots of stuff whizzing around here mainly Tornados, i'd like to see more Hercy birds though, tremendous airplane spent alot of time on those! Dont usually see Chinooks but hear them going through the valley at low level at night in numbers, given away by their distinctive Wokka Wokka noise, which is why they get nicknamed Wokka Wokka's! Seen CH53 Super Stallions out in Bahrain, they are one big mother of a helicopter!

Picture the moment, sat in front of the telly having my dinner, switch over channels and i get "Andy McNabs Tour of Duty" part way through, ah well give this a few minutes i thought, he then goes on to demonstrate the GPMG (A belt fed 7.62mm Machine Gun) all going well, rounds been fed in, links and empty cases coming out etc, and then it pans out to show the target...........A Humber Pig! Never did like his books and the fact that Bravo Two Zero was actually a work of fiction!!

Used to do shows in the summer as part of the RAF careers thing, so we set up the Landrover and tent with all of the radios laid out nice and the setup all camouflaged properly etc. You would then get asked the following:- Hey mister, how many people have you killed. Hey mister, how many times have you been shot. Hey mister, where are the guns. The British public....bless them!

Pig on parade! unfortunately i havent got pics of it on the move as i was driving, these are at the assembly point and at Gordon Barracks Aberdeen at the finish. Lots of veterans in attendance (including myself!) and huge crowds lining Union Street to see the parade. I had the only armoured vehicle on the parade, which seems indicative of the fuel prices at the moment, but it was well worth it, excellent day out, and a good opportunity to let others marvel at the Pig in motion!!

Just done a parade (Veterans Day in Aberdeen) over the weekend, and a thought that occurred to me half way down the parade route was can i reverse airflow a Pig, and has anybody else done it? i would take it that it is a case of putting the fan on backwards, or is there more to it? Just that the heat was getting fairly unbearable by mid afternoon, and as it cruised the 70 mile round trip doing about 40-45mph with the temperature gauge sitting steady regardless of the speed, and been a temperate climate, i would of thought having all that hot air going out the front and sides is better than around my feet! after all if they run ok in desert conditions like that, Scotland shouldnt present a problem! Any opinions?

Look at the bright side, if noboby scrapped anything, then your vehicle wouldn't be so rare, or interesting, and you would feel bad about scavenging parts from a better example. Some stuff after all is just Beyond Economical Repair (B.E.R.)! Looks like the old girl has given plenty of useful service and now is off to the great big road in the sky, or the alternative less rose tinted view is, it was crap taking up valuable space and is worth something weighed in!

Can you get a handcrank into the engine on a Saracen, try and give it a turn over bit by bit until it starts to feel free, preferably with the plugs out, and try some oil in with the derv, if it starts moving, turn it with the starter a good number of times, and get some oil around the engine, then connect all the plugs up make sure its all gapped right and get it started!

I done my morse course, 13 weeks and 18 Words per Minute, used it for real about 4 times, and as you can imagine, is so helpful to me now i am in civvy street! good for listening to the crap they send in war films! the best one been the one involving michael york and germans in a zeppelin attacking some scottish castle, when the radio operator is sending the alphabet! Still remember practicing sending "Beef Essence" in morse, it has a nice rhythm.

A radio transceiver (Transmits and receives) is the same regardless of country of manufacture, the frequency range it works in may be different, i.e. HF, VHF and UHF. Most military sets are HF or VHF (High Freq and Very High Freq) both are capable of transmitting over considerable distance, particularly H.F. which given the right ionospheric conditions will travel a good way around the planet, even at very low power outputs i.e. in the 1 watt range with the right antenna. There are international agreements as to how the frequency spectrum is used and in what capacity, and it would be very possible to land up transmitting over an international GMDSS Emergency Search and Rescue frequency, or the like. In this country what was the Radio Agency, now OFCOM regulate the radio spectrum use, Licensed Ham radio users have a very small part of the spectrum to play with, the rest is allocated for all sorts of uses, and they will come down on you like a Ton of bricks if they catch you illegally operating (I worked for the RAF and the Police as a Radio engineer and hold a GMDSS operating licence from the Home office, and have had dealings with OFCOM in the apprehension of bogus TX'ers). My advice, permanently disable the transmit side of the radio equipment, or even better, pull all the fuses and power and use it purely for show value. It just isnt worth the hassle, its like having a live weapon on the vehicle, and not a deactivated one.

It's an Inner city, Dominoes Pizza delivery moped, with the belt fed customer payment persuader option, and urban cam, so you can leave it in an alley without drawing attention. Notice too the overhead protection, a design ripped off by BMW recently for their ill fated C1 Moped, designed so you dont need a helmet, only in this country you still need the helmet. These rapidly went out of service with Dominoes pizzas, mainly because they were tighter than a gnats chuff and deleted the hydraulic jack option, which raised the machine once dropped. Many of these can still be found around rough neighbourhoods abandoned as the rider couldnt lift it, even after offloading all of the Pizzas!:cool2:

I wrote an article for the Ex Military Landrover Association (EMLRA) when i had my FFR, It was great seeing in print loads of old guff about my time in the mob driving the things and what we used to carry about etc. Hopefully there isnt some poor misguided fool who based his lifes restoration work on my ramblings!! They even had the decency not to hack it about or change it in its slightest, which i was surprised about, must of been short of words... or proof readers!

Your right, a big ploughing rig would certainly be more useful! most people wouldnt look twice up here, but im not to sure it would be useful in his neighbourhood! Nobody else have one of these?

Ive sold 3 vehicles on e-bay, all went at prices above expected and all of them to people who hadnt physically seen them. Be factual, and loads and loads of pictures, everything, even the grim parts, and if they ask questions respond quickly, even if it means taking another pic to send them, the reasoning behind this is i wouldnt bother bidding if the seller cant be bothered to reply properly. Dont set the entry price to high, and dont set the reserve at an unrealistic level, not only that, if people get past the reserve early they usually bid higher near the end. Let the auction run its full course and dont tell them the reserve price, if they cant afford to bid to a reasonable reserve level, they shouldnt be bidding. Enjoy!!
