  1. As a passenger in the Explorer (damn Pig had ignition lead probs) i found that because of the height of the thing and its straight out the bonnet exhaust system, its a great way to see Scottish wildlife fleeing from the hedgerows!, deer, hare, grouse, badgers, foxes the lot!:-D
  2. Just looked up the dimensions for a tracked tractor, which we see around here. An example is an Challenger MT700B (Produced by Caterpillar) which depending on track choice is either 2667mm or 2794mm wide, well in excess of the 2.55 width. To get around the legal bit, make up a bracket with a small plough blade on it, paint it green, attach when on the road, or certainly keep it available for inspection, and call it an agricultural vehicle.:cool2:
  3. The bits you can see certainly look reasonably straight, strange thing going on with the screens, i cant see how they are fitted, looks semi-permanent, and it has the largest choke knob i have ever seen! Nice wings, i'm jealous!!
  4. I was down Duxford a couple of weeks ago, and got a picture of a little grey Fergie pulling a twin seat spitfire, as soon as i get it off the Mobile Phone i will post it here!
  5. Must admit, the Light Admiralty Grey looks really smart, personally if the great unwashed dont get it...........Tough!! Im open minded when it comes to anothers pride and joy, i was at an agricultural show recently where there was a little old ex army fergie tractor looking tatty in a few different coats of Bronze and Nato green, a bit flaky, but absolutely original condition, being poo pooh'd by some as not as nice as the fully restored overly shiney and mainly replaced for new parts examples around it, i thought the army tractor was an excellent little machine, and would be a crime to restore! but then some other people are know nowt pillocks!
  6. For those wanting to paint the interior the correct silver (unless its an ambulance, or an RUC vehicle which appear to be white), Screwfix do "Aluminium Paint" which is heat resistant etc, it comes in 1 ltr tins for about £8.00 which is enough to hand paint the entire interior, and it covers very well, my interior was previously an incorrect Landrover green, and it went over no problem, takes a little while to cure good and solid though, so dont expect to drive it the following day!
  7. Snapper,

I noticed that your signature mentions researching Humber Pig, and you would like opinions etc, i am a Humber Pig owner and would be very glad to contribute towards your research. Do you have a particular "Want"?

  8. When i was in the mob i made most of an exhaust for a TVR V8 350i, my mate couldnt afford a new system that month, so we found a bin that had a load of Tennents Lager cans, took the ends off and sliced them open, and nearly from the front of the car, right through to the "Y" splitter and out the rear covered it in beer cans and aluminium speed tape, it then got through an MOT and lasted for another 5 months before he replaced it! looked quite nice, shiney and silver, like something NASA would have on the Shuttle, it even sounded good!!:-D
  9. A Pig with a bed and a heater, very posh, mines just an empty silver box in the rear at the moment:-(, although i believe that the Royal Artillery used them in that configuration as a G.S. according to a reliable ARRSE forum user, who drove them.
  10. Good idea about the "Junior" section, should maybe call it the MV Cadet section or something though, i hated been called junior :argh: I let the 14 year old son of a fellow MV owner drive my Humber Pig around the show ground, all by himself, after everybody else had cleared off, and he loved it, no crunching of gears or anything, i was impressed, and he had a mile wide smile.. Another life ruined!!
  11. The Fergie guru's at the show dated it as August 1951, the ERM is 11BY20 and it looks as though it was originally painted green top to toe, the ERM is still visible on the rear diff and at the bottom of the radiator, under the flaking paint. Nice little machine, and certainly a change from the usual military vehicle, and its "POST WAR" so its entitled to come over to the darkside!!:-D
  12. And what about the Army, they have had a few floaty things!
  13. I recently had a search done on my Humber Pig, which was released from service in 1967, and Croc had a search done at the same time on his Scammell Explorer which was released about 1970ish In both cases RLC Deepcut did not have the records, apparently prior to 1970, the B Vehicle cards were not kept on vehicles being cast, or certainly very patchy, anything after that point stands a better chance of being found. Also for the short arms, deep pocket types, if you have more than one search it is £15.00 for each vehicle search after the initial £25.00 fee, so if you know anybody else who would like to find their vehicle history, get together and save a few quid, its less disappointing when you get bugger all back!!
  14. I was a Corporal.......Mwah hah ha ha!!
  15. I believe that it would be regarded as a "Fantasy Embellishment" and have no place on such a long serving and distinguished British Army vehicle. Leave the flags to the Ferret mob!!!:-D
  16. Just recently got hold of a new set of British army FV Coveralls with loads of pockets, in olive green with big brass zips, like a posh boiler suit, and some brand new (well not worn at least!) DMS boots, lovely stuff and not to scary to joe public!
  17. Ive even heard you can carry your shyte around in removeable thumb drives, not to sure what happens when you pull your thumb out though?
  18. Had a flight on a 55sqn Victor out of Muharraq in Bahrain, before the squadron returned to the UK and was disbanded. We flew a racetrack course for quite some time as i recall, next to the Iraq border, then the on-board electrics went, and then the backup didnt work, so they deployed an emergency back-up which was basically a propellor running a dynamo pushed into the airflow! and limped back to Bahrain. And they used to leak an alarming amount of fuel onto the pan, a very worried Bahrain defence force guard knocked on our comms shack door one night, gesticulating wildly pointing at the plane, it looked like somebody had left a few taps running AVTUR all over the place, called the squadron lineys who sent someone out with a few oil drums to catch the fuel, it was expansion pushing it out of the tanks. In hindsight it was probably the right time to get rid of them!
  19. I have a complete spare back axle if you frag yours racing! post could be steep from Aberdeenshire though.
  20. Looks a bit light on levers for a Scammell? then again Crocs Explorer looks more like a railway junction box, off the top of my head it has a lever for the following:- hand throttle hand held hill start brake ratchet handbrake Gear lever 6x4x6 selector Main winch gear Rear Jib winch air brake lever Engine kill (Its a diesel) and thats before you get onto switches dials and lights etc.......
  21. I have put a video clip "Crocs Scammell Explorer" on HMVF TV, its still pending waiting for the administrator to clear it, but should be on soon. Get to see it burbling around our neighbourhood!
  22. Excellent, i love horror shots, really good info to know about ( And I knew oily layshafts would feature somewhere!!)
  23. Alot of RAF stations still have buildings that show signs of camouflage painting from WW2, i always wondered about the effectiveness and what else they done to them other than paint them.
  24. I have came up a blank with researching history for my MK1 Humber Pig 05BK61, however i have spoke with two previous owners, and apparently it was owned/restored by a Mr John Thayre in the Brighton area. Anybody know him in the MV scene or if he resides on this forum?
