  1. Mark that really was brilliant.. I've just looked properly at the original unedited snap on my camera card, and it wasn't you at all..:red::red::red: :n00b:  It was that chap who had a bike, so sorry to have caused you any embarrassment, but I assumed it was you because you had been in the same spot earlier and I was too engrossed plonking bits of hedgerow over him to notice! Please accept my apologies..:bow:
  2. Blimey that's excellent, do we agree the only way the bonnet could be uncut is if it came from the factory like that? Each Explorer was built/assembled by a five man team (I remember reading somewhere) and all sheet metal work was hand made, although I should think there was a former/jig for the main shape, presumably the bonnet finisher would cut and dress holes to suit the engine/air filters fitted. Seems to me that your Explorer is turning out to be unique..
  3. looking at those pics with shiny/wet bonnet, to me it looks like some evidence of the air cleaner holes being filled in, which may mean a non original Meadows diesel.. Could be that the holes where filled at factory, but as it would have been easier not to have made them in the first place, it's a bit odd, looking forward to positive proof the engine is original!
  4. Gets even more interesting now Joe, there was a rumor that some of the contract where Meadows diesel, that would support the evaluation theory. Mine has trailer (reaction) brake in middle above engine cowl.
  5. Yep sorry you had to go but if you had been holding up a Box Brownie instead of your non period mega camera you would have added to the scene and could have stayed..
  6. If you have any DR pics post them here please so they can see themselves in action.
  7. Just to add thanks from all us lot in Steves Mack to what's already been said. Not sure if all you DRs realize what a great sight you are from the convoys viewpoint, watching all that squeezing and weaving past to repeatedly get ahead was very entertaining for us!
  8. Thanks Jack but it really is mostly the camera, and PhotoScape got rid of the road signs and some other guy with a camera in the background.. Have to say that having a veteran looking me in the eye and giving us the thumbs up from his wheelchair, tucked in his travel rug in the corner of a Weymouth seafront shelter as we drove by, was as moving as it gets. HMVF and A&E has taught me so much since I was a mere Scammell enthusiast.
  9. All six went to the F.V.R.D.E. Mr Nosey but unobservant.... They differ slightly from both the 'Mk1s' and the 'Mk2s', wether they where for evaluation or just for normal wrecker duties around the place, is uncertain.
  10. That's interesting Joe, the records I have say all six in contract 9870 where registered with NGY numbers, so yours must have been re registered for some reason. That means four out of six known, any pictures for comparison? Welcome to the club...:-D ..
  11. What about these, come in various sizes, I've used them and you can fill in the socket if you want, no one will know...specially after we have all stomped about up there having a look with our muddy boots on....http://m.screwfix.com/p/socket-countersunk-screws-a2-stainless-steel-m6-x-25mm-pack-of-50/37791 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Well said Rosie, no ifs or buts, it's going to be a monumental event, just like last time there's no problem that can't be beat, wet or dry, once we're rolling we just won't care! :-D
  13. Glad we were able to help, maybe you could try just tapping a new screwdriver around the numbers, this should crush and impress the fibres so they don't spring back instead of spreading them like a sharp tool would. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Just glad I retired then, I don't do wishey washey! Paint can pull back from Sharp edges so rubbing a bit of 180 along then never hurts. If you have been test fitting and handling it a lot, give it a wipe over with a white spirit soaked cloth, to get rid of any grease and stuff first. If you do this probably no need to thin, go by what the tin says! Oh and don't forget those nice numbers stamped into the ends :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I stand corrected, didn't know they existed.. :embarrassed:
  16. That was not a kinetic rope, if it was someone could have ended up in A&E..
  17. Spare a thought for the camera man, stood there all day waiting for a wreck, and that is as bad as it got! All the other drivers must have been super good!
