  3. Welcome to the HMVF Zeph, sounds quite a collection, I'm someway behind you just having a '43 Ford GPW, a '41 Chevrolet G-7107 cargo and an 80's British Army Armstrong MT500 motorcycle !
  4. Welcome to the HMVF Tim, from another "yellow belly"
  5. Well put Stefano, I'm the same I always buy things because I like them NOT for investment, and like you don't mind paying a fair price but as with all hobbies there are a FEW people in the militaria scene who are not necessarily enthusiasts but opportunists who move from hobby to hobby earning a living as demand increases. I have lot's of military items and three MV's I love them for what they are and certainly do not see them as a get rich quick scheme, if they rise in value fine if they lose I'm a realist, every ones hobby costs something and once you factor in the fun aspect of owning and enjoying a piece of history it's totally worth it. We are all in one big family and whatever our particular " green " interest the MV scene will continue to grow, prices rise in everything but hopefully we are all sensible enough to shun the sky high prices of some traders and support the decent honest ones who are out there.
  6. Welcome to the HMVF Piotr , any pictures of your vehicles and interesting finds ?
  7. I wish I had never sold the five Mk1 Escort Mexico's I owned in the late seventies early eighties, my '66 Ford Thunderbird, Austin A40 pick up, VW Split Screen panel van, '46 Cadillac 62 series, Morris 1000 pick up, Bedford MW aero screen, Capri 3.0s, Corsair 2000E, 2.8i Capri, Rover P5b, Massey Ferguson 165, ....................... the list goes on  One I did sell but couldn't live without was my '43 Ford GPW, I just bought it back
  8. I had a similar problem on my jeep after I fitted a new battery, take the tops off and hold them up to the light if you can see straight through the breather holes change them for some of the older type with a much better baffle in the vent. I got some from an older disgarded battery and had no more trouble. Wash everything affected with bi-carbonate of soda mixed with warm water as eventually your paintwork will suffer. I have a battery mat under my jeeps battery, it is treated so as to neutralise any acid, I think the mat was called a battery butler ? I got mine from Ebay.
  9. I bought a '41 Chevy cargo a few months back and the owner drove it from Hythe, Kent to sunny South Lincs no problem at all, he KNEW the truck though and had confidence in it, I don't think I as the new owner would have dared do the same As suggested can you not get the owner to meet you half way ? That way if he's willing it shows he's has confidence in it's mechanical reliability. If you have to drive it I would take plenty of tools, brake fluid, water, oil, cable ties etc. An orange flashing lamp connected to a spare 12v battery at the rear is a good idea it catches peoples attention while they are busy on their mobiles Good luck.
