  1. I use Universal Jeeps for ALL my stuff, never had a problem. Cliff knows his stuff and always goes the extra mile to help.
  2. You are not alone on questioning the quality of parts sold, I once got through six head gaskets from a well known supplier on my Jeep until I was warned they had bought a "bad batch" from China, they were happy to keep selling them though. I used a gasket from another supplier and have never had a failure since ! A friend who works at a highly respected local classic car garage tells me that many of the parts they source from supposed one make parts suppliers are sub standard and either are not fit for purpose or require work to make fit the vehicle they were bought for. I now use ONE supplier for my Jeep and have never had a problem.
  3. I recently had a similar problem with my Ford GPW. I went for a 25 mile run and it never missed a beat, switched off for ten minutes and it refused to start ! I replaced condenser, points, rotor arm and cap at roadside and she fired up, problem solved or so I thought However nearing home she started missing and struggled the last mile before dying again. I replaced the coil with a new one and all now seems fine. I believe the coil was breaking down once warm (hence it restarting when it had cooled down), and talking to the local classic car garage they have seen the same many times.
  4. Welcome to the HMVF, I waited a long time like you before finally getting my childhood dream, a Ford GPW it was worth the wait.
  5. Welcome along Richard, I have a Ford GPW but have had a WC52 as well, both cracking vehicles and easy to source parts for.
  6. If it IS from a Spitfire I bet the BBMF would be glad of it
  7. Welcome to the HMVF, don't fancy you having to take a bike test nowadays it's a minefield now. When I took mine it was a ride round the block and a quick emergency stop with a few questions thrown in
  8. Welcome to the HMVF, sounds a nice collection you have there
  9. Welcome to the HMVF, plenty of good advice on here to be had
  10. My WC52 suffered badly from overheating despite flushing the block numerous times and a new thermostat, on removing the radiator I could barely lift it ! Turned out it was virtually totally blocked with 70 years worth of crud. I took it to my local radiator guy who re-cored it and on return it was a third of the weight previously. Truck ran cool thereafter
  11. I'm with Enigma on this one, have you tried jacking up the front end and checking how heavy the steering is without weight on ? You could have tightness somewhere, on Land Rovers the steering idler can partially seize and cause extremely heavy steering, I am unsure of exactly what the Dodge set up is but it is worth checking all the steering for tight spots etc.
  12. Free Wheel Hubs made no difference to the lightness of my steering on any of my Land Rovers over the years but did slightly reduce fuel consumption.
  13. This is common on Land Rovers swivels, so much so that Land Rover developed a special grease to replace the oil which solved the problem. I have used it numerous times and it certainly works and I would use that. It comes in sachets one per wheel and is available on eBay or from Land Rover themselves. Sorry this didn't exactly answer your question but it should stop the leak Ps. Do BOTH sides.
