  1. Whos going then? I should be somewhere between Military, Heavy Haulage and Working Plant as usual.
  2. I wasn't there so I am not going to comment, but didn't we do this all before in the recovery thread? http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?8900-Recovery-and-Towing
  3. If you don't have the Antar to drive, could that walk be backwards around the playpen when Andi needs a break?
  4. Hi, always good to see folk from the top end of the country, welcome to the forum.
  5. I am having this problem with the RL, once it is running it works fine on the mechanical pump but if it sits for a while (week +) it will not self prime. Putting a small electric pump in line works well but is a bit of a pain. I have just bought a priming bulb, same as you get for boats. The plan is to fit it near the tank so I can hand prime when needed but run on the mechanical pump, it should also stop fuel draining back to the tank. I have used electric pumps in line, for priming, on a few things over the years with no problems. I am going to have a go with the bulb and see how it works as a simpler solution.
  6. Just when you think someone has organised a show in the north it turns out to be 400 miles away....
  7. I have my anvil next to the rayburn so I can get things hot in the fire before hitting them. I also have an Explorer radiator stood against the wall, I am thinking about pluming it for heating. I keep telling Jen that the kitchen is really a workshop but she doesn't believe me.
  8. You might have noticed that I haven't been around much over the past couple of months, I have got some Scammell stuff to update but first, this is why I have been busy. After a 30 mile run in the Explorer to the BA Stores rally my wife, Jen, started the final stage of producing a new Scammeller. Michael Thomas Adamson arrived (12 days late) on Tuesday 18th May at 06:45 hrs. 7lb 13oz. Jen and Michael are both doing well, losing and gaining weight appropriately. The weekend after he was born was my parents ruby wedding anniversary. A big family bash had been organised in Cumbria, at 5 days old Michael got his first trip on a narrow gauge railway in Alston.
  9. I know of an Explorer, still fitted with a petrol, that had a modified crank handle. There was a wheel rim welded on the end of the shaft so that a rope could be wound round to make a pullstart
  10. Let me know the chassis number and I will see what I can find out for you.
  11. you could always try to get your oar in first and try claiming off the clumsy little sods parents for having to clean blood off your armour:cool2:
  12. I suspect the need for this started with stationary engines and such, that arrive on trailers and do not need insurance normally. I would have thought that anything with insurance to be driven on the road would have sufficient cover. Probably best to check though.

    how about this then....
  14. It is the licence exemption I am refering to, (this is different to the testing exemption currently being reviewed) see DVLA site: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_4022499
  15. I don't believe that the date on the B licence makes any difference. I do not recall anything in the pre 60 exemption wording that differentiates depending on the pass date of a "B" licence. For example, my wife could drive my 1951 Scammell (12ton) but not my 1967 RL (4 ton unladen) on her post '97 "B" licence.
  16. Hi Phil, I had a chat with Mike Gilbert and he says it sounds just like his mat runs. Best bet is to let it settle in and not start taking things to bits again. Give him a call if you want to chat about it. P.S. He also says that the very faint black smoke at full tilt wasn't that faint when he was following you.
  17. RE. driving licence. Remember that if it is pre 1960 it can be driven on a B licence unladen etc.
  18. Is that all we sat up waiting for Jack? ('cos non of us stay on here half the night anyway:D) I would be happy enough to subscribe to HMVF without the magazine, I am not really into magazines. Will there be some sort of indication of subscribers or any subs only sections?
  19. For the snow we have had this year I am starting to fancy a blower. Another video from last month, only just got around to posting it.
  20. Good clip that, it is an edited and redubbed version of the original. There should be a few copies of the Scammell and the ARV in circulation as I handed a few out at GDSF last year.
  21. I have had the same problem, careful use of the pointer works, but it is a pain.
  22. Try and get Andi to have a look on here and we will all offer words of comfort, encouragement and occasionally wisdom. Try pointing out that three days in three years, is three days more than Andy Fowler has managed :cool2: HMVF - The Scammell Explorer Owners' crisis support and drop-in centre :-D
  23. I grease mine every 30 to 50 miles, for the first time in weeks I have a snow free, dry patch in the yard. I will be having a greasing session this afternoon, now that it has warmed up to -1
  24. This might be of use http://freespace.virgin.net/scammell.man/exp.pdf
  25. I have hardly got any metric stuff - it's the devils work...
