  1. I am employed at the front line of the Scottish legal system! And have first hand taken many DNA samples and fingerprints. I am not really that concerned about the retention limits on DNA. My DNA is on file along with my finger prints and I have nothing to fear from them being held on the database as I have done nothing wrong. many people seen to think that they live in a Police state and that the government will plot against them if their details are held on a database. The problem with the system in England and Wales is that there is far too many organisations dealing with the information/samples. In Scotland once it has been taken by the police it goes to one agency which is a national agency and serves all 8 Scottish forces. anyway, seems like we have went off on a tangent from the original topic! The Daily Mail have turned a non-news story into another opportunity to bash the police!!!!
  2. Given that this story was reported by the Daily Mail you would be advised to take any police related story with a shovel full of salt! The Daily Mail seem to have a vendetta against the British police service and will turn non-news into a front page exclusive! The police are duty bound by law to investigate intelligence provided to them, but it does seem they went a bit over the top! the DNA should also not be a problem for any law abiding person! it may one day identify you in an accident etc
  3. Nice! Are you going to have it restored to the original N.I. spec or just converted to a standard GMC truck?
  4. Does anyone have pictures of this "snatch" land rover? i too would be interested to see what it looks like as I drove Snatch 1 and 2 whilst in Northern Ireland. I am guessing it would have taken alot of time to modify the bodywork to make it resemble the real thing!
  5. Hi all, New to the forum! I am particularly interested in the various versions of Armoured Land Rovers used by the British Army in Northern Ireland from the 80's till the mid 90's. I am fairly familiar with the SNATCH, as I used to drive one whilst based over there:D. The variant I am most interested in is the Glover Webb APV 110 Land Rover. I have searched the web, but have not managed to find much on them. I can recall that there was one parked gathering dust in one of the hangers on the camp I was based at until about 2006, and was then taken away one night on a low loader. So is there any of you knowledgable people out there able to assist in my quest for info on the Glover Webb APV 110? Pictures would also be appreciated! Cheers Gav
  6. Hi everyone, had a good browse on the forum last night and promptly joined! I am an ex-Sapper, predominantly served my time in 25 ENGR REGT, Northern Ireland. Main vehicle i drove was the CAV100 V8 110 Land Rover, or more commonly known as SNATCH Land Rover. Also briefly drove the SNATCH 2 - 300Tdi engine fitted - before they decided that you had to have cat C1 license to drive it! Drove a few other varieties of military vehicles whilst out in Afghanistan prior to me leaving! My main interest is military vehicles used in the Northern Ireland troubles! cheers Gav
