  1. i used one froman Austin princess wedge straight six fits straight in!
  2. There was an. AEC Dorchester at melksham landrovers it was in the brambles with no rear body but i saw it when Neil had just recovered it and it still had the front armour ! I wonder what happened to it as most of the stuff that did not sell was cut up apparently
  3. How long before you have the old lady dug out ?
  4. Hi I have owned a few hippos mk 2 and mk2b and they were renound for sticking between gears what I used to do to resolve the problem was hook a land rover onto the rear towbar with a straight tow pole and get a mate to gently rock the hippo back and forwards while I sat in the cab and put pressure on the gear lever or transfer box lever whichever was stuck. This happened to me in the rush hour at a set of traffic lights in Bristol years ago very embarrassing. I eventually took the gearbox out and overhauled it and found that there was a circlip that had broken up which I replaced and I never had the problem again. I also turned the transfer box round fitted 1200.20 tyres and it would do 50 mph interesting to stop though!! I hope this helps
  5. Hi I have a mates matador in for repair and the brakes are terrible when you depress the brake pedal it takes forever for them to take effect I had this problem years ago but cannot remember the fix Anybody got any ideas please?
  6. Dodge WC51 I have fitted new fuel pump new plugs leads points condenser cap rotor arm and gauze fuel filter and cleaned the carb out . When the engine has been running for an hour under load maybe less maybe more she will start to run rich and then cut out and will not restart whatever we try but once home and cooled down it will restart with ease then it may run for 4 hours and not do it at all interesting fault that we cannot get to the bottom of has anyone had this experience and or may know whats causing it please as its starting to become rather annoying not knowing if we will get to the shows or not any suggestions greatly appreciated
  7. I have always thought a military vehicle looks better hand painted (slapped on with a big brush over the dirt) and having a used battered look . As said before I hate the rivet counters I have had my fair share of them over the years saying that's wrong this is wrong. I see some vehicles trailered to events pushed off the trailer and polished what is the point? Military vehicles are not like veteran classic or vintage cars with lots of chrome and brass etc so why try and make them that way! The standard of restoration has gone up over the years but on some vehicles it has gone to far really.
  8. A champ near me on a farm has the reg 18 RN 54 stamped into the plate it does not matter what military registration the vehicle has or did have as long as its being preserved that's the way I look at it after years of arguing about military registrations at shows. My puch haflinger had the same military registration as the said champ and it was also stamped into the chassis plate. Does anyone know what happened to Andy and his albion clansman mobile workshop? it was slow with a heavy steering from what I can remember but a lovely lovely truck
  9. There was a 6x4 albion clansman mobile machine shop owned by a chap called andy who lived in bath he had it in the late 80,s it was in mint condition. he towed my haflinger home with it once and used to do all the avon area road runs and shows with it......
  10. Welcome paul you made it then (its better on here than brians quarrying page)
  11. Interesting I didnt think martin was going to sell it. There we go the reason it wont start and run is the carb is not happy when it was parked up it would only run very very rich on about 4.5 cylinders. its also got one ton tracta joints in the axles instead of chobham joints so needs to be driven carefully. on one of the periscope blinds you will find some interesting writing if i remember rightly it says back in F%%& in where it served again if you got my gist. (let me know if you find that) if i can help you in any other way with it please dont hesitate to ask.
  12. Yes st annes drive banjo island I did a lot of axle work on it as they were both blown up. it came from a chap in box called pursar. Ive had a lot to do with one tons and pigs over the years!
  13. Hi did your 3rd pig come from cadbury heath near bristol?
  14. Are the remains of the AEC matador armoured car still hiding away there? it was just the chassis and armoured front end possibly a dorchester!
  15. I hate to say this but from previous experiance the hippo will end up going to china. Over the years I have saved a lot of vehicles from scrap yards (including a mk2b and a mk2a hippo)Some that I have found I have advertised on various websites as they have been either to big or not in my interest range but need to be saved. and people get all excited and go me me me me me want want want mine mine mine for ages and then say oh dear wife wont let me have it or some lame excuse like they need to get a new wiper blade for their car.. so sorry to moan but I would like to say bye bye to the lovely mk2a hippo now!!
  16. I would love to know what happened to my 11 cab chevrolet field artillery tractor (quad) reg number jya619 I sold it around 1990 and its still on dvla computer as untaxed and im sure it went over towards london !!
  17. That reminds me of my humber one ton that was stuck in 4wd the tractor joint went of with a hell of a bang and thats when I found why it was in 4wd the rear axle was already broken!! My freinds piggy also has the same problem both axles are us due to misuse in the past .
  18. Hi I have just watched this all the way through from beginning to end how dissapointing more time was spent watching the 19 heads of state walking along with their kids and interviewing to eddy izzard??? than talking to veterans.... The lack of ww2 vehicles moving were a JEEP some DUKWS that you could only just see in the distance and a sherman etc on the beach. What are the BBC trying to do it was disgusting I reckon and they could have done a lot better. It was the 70th anniversary who wants to see a bloke with nail varnish and a bunch of overpaid heads of state instead of all the lads that fought for our country and world peace ! The only bit that was ok was the lanc dakota and spits but then the commentator talked over the engine noise!!!!!!
  19. I used to run a four cylinder dorman in a dredger and it used to boil with amazing regularity it turnwd out to be the radiator cores were partially blocked inside the radiator and years of just and crap had blocked the cores through the outside of the radiator it was that bad under load that it would blow all of the water out as a fine steam mist that you couldnt see1
  20. It drives me potty when people like ANTAR AND SINGAEGER make comments how do people know Jims tank is a preserved vehicle? when I used to show vehicles and drive them around all over the place people used to always say are you in the army. The general public have not got a clue wether its preserved or not. I used to use my ex military vehicles for all manner of things as it would help pay for the upkeep of them which in this day and age is quite expensive if your not a millionaire. As for the number plates how many military vehicles have you seen with stencilling all over them and the number plate in amongst it all Its our own personal choice if we want hidden plates to paint the vehicle what colour we want, drive it when we want and where we want. I stopped showing 8 years ago and I used to travel a long way this was due to petty politics in a certain club snide comments by other so say enthusiasts. Im sure its jealousy thats what I put it down to any way due to having somthing more interesting than they have!!! It was lovely to see sloppy But Safe roaring around clifton thanks Jim I dont reckon cliftons seen a sherman since the war!!
  21. A few years ago I rebuilt an 11 cab quad and a bedford 28 engine would not fit in due to the length of it I would of had to move the front grill and radiator forward. they will fit in 12 and 13 cabs though as the rad etc is farther forward thats what i found when I rebuilt a 13 cab c60l and a 12 cab quad....
  22. The is a chap in doynton near bristol with one of these in pieces as well!
  23. It would be fantastic if Just Jane was airworthy by then as well. 12 merlins on full song wow what a spectacle!
