  1. 552 ORD tank repair company 1944-45 home movie , verity of armoured vehicles Something went wrong...
  2. Truly if there were enough people the moving of all that stuff wouldn't be that long a project . When there are some boots on the ground , and can do a recon for the mission , is there a workable plan that can be put in motion , can it be a successful recovery . Only time will tell now .
  3. Knowing the press it more likely they would get things wrong and report you were saying that the unit was going to Paris in the mistaken belief they were going to try and climb K2.
  4. Its OK quite understandable , You got a few suggestions for both problems in return so it was worth it .Stick with Us and We ll see you through it .
  5. Its not always about speed , its the staying with it part . Many start projects that turn out to overwhelm people and are given up . Of course having it close by would be a plus and having many skilled hands also makes things easier .
  6. Did you ever wonder just how they went about putting together and spanning an obstacle with a Bailey type bridge ? Here is an animated clip of the newer form of the classic WWII bridge now called a Mabey Johnson bridge the main differences are I believe a steel panel deck versus wooden one and fewer stronger steel pieces used for the components , a very simular idea otherwise . Its spans 200' and is assembled and completed in 5:44 of course anything is possable in animation ! Something went wrong... another clip Something went wrong...
  7. As mentioned back earlier by Lawson here is an opening to that well known series , just recently found Something went wrong...
  8. On the other hand you cant lift it out and you cant drive it out and you cant drag it out ...... does any one fancy a bit of digging ? a few months work to dig under the property and lower the vehicle down and bring it out cant be all that impossible .
  9. I can think of course of another method that would be once the body was removed and the wheels removed would entail placing the chassis on its side on a skid and using a winch to drag it to the street or with in reach of a crane ????
  10. Welcome to the Friendliest Forum on the internet , Hope you have a chance to take and post a few photo's or video of your Reo . We need to balance out the vehicle count in the Club house parking lot as many of the recent members have brought along a number of British Vehicles . One of the others will help explain your chores as you are the newest member and must assist the older ones with things like fetching their cream custards and digestives as well as making sure they never run out of hot tea in their mugs . you will be graded on these chores and will advance to more difficult tasks as you are able .
  11. Found this clip on youtube of an experimental carrier based unit called a "Praying Mantis" has any one else heard of this ? there is also a short section at the start of putting tracks on duel axle trucks Something went wrong...
  12. A clip from youtube of moving a LARC XL in the USA. Lots of people and lots of planning to do this job . Something went wrong...
  13. In Tailgunners last photo in post 258 I see what I think is part of a upper turret for an aircraft ...I could be wrong , Being a bit nosey what aircraft is it from ? I know they were used on a number of types of bombers .
  14. Nice fine Joris ! Can any one id the truck thats hit at 6:46 in the first film ?Is it a one of those tractors used to haul the Queen Mary trailers?
  15. is the machine a vickers vigor ? like this
  16. Yes , I understand , your probably right , if they had loaded it wrong they would have learned the hard way , I have seen many period photo's where the troop seat were left on and the partition not used as in the book "The GMC Universal truck " by Boniface & Jeudy in an effort to increase the load carried...... The idea for those who don't know was to have the load self limited by the low sides of the dump body , ie you could only pile so much on the truck before gravity would cause it to slide off known as the angle of repose , if troop seats or side extensions are used yes you can put more on but it will be/can be more than the hoist or truck chassis can support. There is no hoist frame past the partition just the heavy gauge steel of the sides and one central rib that runs from the partition hinge to the end of the body. The CCKW 353 H1 or H2 split / banjo was a multi-purpose truck able to do many things , it was an ok dump truck and an ok cargo truck , not is the same league as the much beefer purpose built Diamond T dump truck.
  17. Great to see the Boy's playing with their big shiny toys in the Sandbox !! I would be remiss if I didn't point out the partition panel was not being used on the CCKW. see this post for example http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showpost.php?p=121171&postcount=18

  20. I hope they will be able continue their work to perserve and protect these valuable Vehicles , and objects and all the history they have to future generations.
  21. A Beauty , nice touch with all the kit mounted .
  22. Thank You for all the details , I had not thought it was any thing but engine powered ie petrol or diesel ! forgot it might be something else and that explains the cab arrangement . How long would it have taken to have been fired up before it was ready to move ? would they have kept them hot all the time back in their day ? How long does it take now with the flash PLC system ? Did they mostly use hydraulic brakes or mechanical or pneumatic originally ?
