  1. If you have access to a good 12v car battery, try that, it is not neccesary to use two 6v batts. We had a WOT that started well on a diesel car battery.
  2. you had better elaborate on that sweeping remark........
  3. Hi Ray, Best of luck with your mission. Once you have secured it, then send the photos, otherwise someone will guess the location! I often say what a small world it is, and it is so true. Richard
  4. Hi Little Ray, Too many clues in your post ...... when I was over your way in March, I met that chap with his non flyable plane and he told me about the Stuart. You have to be quick on these things and not tell too many people! regards, Richard
  5. Good question, have not got a flag, but look out for a Bedford QL cargo, with 79th Armoured sign on the front (bull's head on yellow trangle). There will be some display boards beside it and a large old army marquee behind it. Think there could be a Halftrack in with us as well.
  6. Hi Glynn, The Morris Commercial MRA1 distributor is part number 40228, and type is DX6A, with anticlock rotation. It does not appear to be anything like the CS8 one, in fact the engines are poles apart, side and overhead valves. Hope this is of help to you. regards, Richard
  7. Hi Guy, If I do not get disturbed tomorrow, I may well be working on my QL, so don't feel alone
  8. Sorry, :embarrassed:, what I meant was that it came from Norfolk, a county in Eastern England.
  9. Not sure where you get this corrosion problem causing the brake lights to come on when parked. It was not unusual to happen when in service, but not put down to corrosion.
  10. Andy, I would think it is the same one, no signs or numbers visible, and my photos of it are not readily available at present.
  11. About 18 months ago, a Cromwell (Charioteer converted back) weekended outside my workshop, it was being transported to a museum at Bastogne if I recollect. Came from Norfolk way. The Centaur used in BofB was at the time owned by Denis Roberts.
  12. Hi Glynn, Have you tried the Distributor Doctor? http://www.distributordoctor.com/
  13. Hi mate, You have some good points here, especially the last one. Instead of people coming up with negative posts, it would be a good idea to work out a way of vehicles being checked if the owners feel they are not experienced enough to do it themselves. The announcement of the tests not being required after November, did point out the voluntary tests could still be had. We should be educating owners to make sure they have their vehicles checked by competant persons on a regular basis, but without the beaurocracy.
  14. built by Dashwood ............ not sure but it might be & Partners Ltd
  15. As Jan has said in the previous post. we are publicising the Corowa event to a wider audience. Anyone contemplating a visit to Australia, might like to plan it around our event. Not big by W&P standards, but participants make huge efforts to cross the country to take part, it is so popular. For the last two years we have had an owner of a SeriesIII Land Rover drive 2,000 miles each way just to be there, and at this year's event three Studebaker US6 trucks were brought down from Queensland on a B-Double outfit, see the photo. At W&P, I will have some special editions of our KVE Newsletter, giving full details of the event, with tourist info, reports from the event in March, plus lots of photos of vehicles seen at Corowa in recent years. I can be found in America Field, with my Bedford QL, if not around, please call my mobile number which is on my webpage listed at the bottom of this post. Look forward to chatting to you there. :-) regards, Richard
  16. Hi David, Glad that the link was of good use to you. Your piece about the 9.00-16 Trak Grip moulds going to Malaysia is entrierly true, they went to Simex Tyres who were a Dunlop subsiduary. They were available in limited quantities in the UK until around 2005, when Simex came under Continental Tyres and import stopped. I had been to the Simex European HQ back then and saw a brochure for 11.00-20 Trak Grips Runflat as well as 9.00-16, but they were for military orders and no doubt the price would have been out of our reach.
  17. Ah hem ... you have mentioned your friend Phil before, in the context of tyres for his QL........... they are 20", David is after 16" tubes............... :n00b:.
  18. Hi David, Hope the following link is of use to you; http://www.bigtyres.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=344&Itemid=2 If the valve is not correct for the rim, you can get these changed at your local tyre dealer
  19. I read the discussion papers when this was put out for consultation and statistics showed the pre-1960 vehicles by percentage, were having a far lower failure rate than later vehicles. This says something about how well classic vehicles are maintained. The heavier vehicles that were excused testing for many years, have not given cause for concern, with possibly the odd and rare exception, before it was pre-1960, it was pre-1940 and never heard of any problems. Lets face it, this is bringing into line with European practise apparantly, so what is the word over there?
  20. Pretty sure that is a Saracen turret, as I recall it had a rectangular baseplate.
  21. Andy, Why not make it out of copper pipe, anneal it then form around a suitable sized round object.
  22. Hi Drew, I would seriously advise you to stick to the specofied lubricant on the Ferret driveline, it is EP90, or EP80/90 as a alternative. Using a semi fluid grease may well cause you problems down the line. regards, Richard
