  1. Mike, If you want a straight 90 gear oil with no EP rating / additives the Morris AG range is the one. Good for gearboxes with sychro in as it gives for better changes, (Jeeps, etc).
  2. My recollection of a documentary some years ago was that the US DD tanks were dropped off by the ship too far out. Being that they lay low in the water navigation was difficult and they were using a church steeple as a marker point only to realise it was not the correct one and they were going side on to the tide. The waves then collapsed the screens as they were not designed for wave pressure from the side, if I recall correctly.
  3. Vaseline was recommended by Rover for their V8 engine due to the pump being high. I have also used it in jeep engines, as if you use oil and do not test run it in a short time there is likelyhood of that oil seeping away, Vaseline creates suction and after all it is a petroleum product and disapates once the oil is up. I usually spin the engine on the starter without plugs before starting, and watch the guage, once it flickers you know the oil is present.
  4. Ah my favourites, make that Yorkshire Tea and you're on
  5. Thanks Tony ....... will send my consultancy bill in due course . Glad to hear the problem is solved. regards, Richard
  6. Hi Chaindrive, The axle is possibly like that due to the fuel tank depth and keeping the sprag low makes it more effective. The ground clearance of the axle is little different to a normal diff housing.
  7. Yes, the fan shroud is very important on the Scouts due to the air being pushed through the rad, with out a shroud it does not get full airflow.
  8. Hi Lance, fine thanks! Any seats in a Land Rover have to be better than the originals
  9. We did that on a S2a Station Wagon, we fitted seats from a truck in it when preparing for an Outback rally across Australia. This was solely to access the fuel tank fillers, bit of a chore, but made for a much more comfortable ride when you are doing hundreds of miles in a day.
  10. Hi Tom, Having had an engine out of a WOT6 I can tell you that the flywheel housing on the V8 is integral, top half is part of the block and bottom half is part of the sump, if I recall.
  11. My recollections of the Tender Sales at Ludgershall was that some were bought under what I think was called a "scrap waiver", where by these particular vehicles had to be scrapped and not sold on for use and places like Hanningfield may have had good vehicles but not saleable, officially. Correct me if I am wrong as it is about 18 years ago now when those sales were on.
  12. It is OK if used correctly, an overdose can cause damage but these pumps if used to the instructions are more measured. Most problems with diesels is that when they are cold, is that the battery is not high enough charge to turn the engine fast enough.
  13. Hi, The system is Start Pilot and it uses ether from a special refill can, there is a small clear reservoir under the bonnet if I recall.
  14. You are right there Tony! :-D
  15. Now theres the pot calling the kettle black
  16. Tony, I have a box of their products that is 20 years old now ........... well only a bit of it left, but the sachets are still OK when opened although you waste what is left over quite often. It came from a sponsorship deal from them for a motor rally and they sent a rep down to demonstrate their products, I had already been using it and very impressed with the uses it has in heavy industry.
  17. Thanks Lauren, I have edited my post now
  18. Adrian, Cannot lay my hands on the technical folder at the moment, but think this link will show that it is a serious proffesional answer to your problem;http://www.belzona.com/ViewFile.aspx?docType=Product%20Flyer&product=2211&language=UK regards, Richard
  19. That sounds like something that might be under some load, would it do damage if it came unstuck? There is one product that I have used for bump stop rubbers years ago and it is from the Belzona range, cannot remember the product details but it was two sachets that you mix together. Surface preparation is critical on both surfaces and probably needs clamping until its cured. I will see if I can find the technical literature. regards, Richard
  20. Hi Hans, I know the Bedford RL rear wheel cylinders can be used on a MW. Not familiar with the J1 but would think it quite likely they would fit
  21. C47 or better known as Dakota. The QL tipper was built to be broken down into several plane loads.
  22. Mark, It was done on a VHS tape and sold, made by a chap called Eddie from Essex MVT area as I recall and titled Convoys, had bit about Normandy and Guernsey tours as well, must be over 20 years ago now. Perhaps someone on here might have it put on to dvd?
  23. If you have renewed the master cylinder, have you checked to make sure you have the correct pushrod clearance? Piston may not be returning correctly, or there is a fault in the m/cyl.
  24. Yes Mark, I was there. There is a video of that that somewhere. Brilliant !!
