  1. under the brown box........ Prisoners of War maybe?
  2. A wild card here, under the brown box, is it "soldier's wives" / Date, late 1800's possibly. :undecided:
  3. Tony, you must be a mind reader! My first encounter with the 6x6 version was in 1992 when i was in a team from our REME workshops to take part in a motor rally across Australia. We had the use of a GS version from the Royal Australian Engineers as a support vehicle for the rally, but first had to have an Australian army driving licence. I took the test through Sydney. The 6x6 has a higher driving position and wider cab, it was very good to drive. 3 years later I was on another event out there and there was army support, the RAEME had the mobile workshop version, similar to the ambulance in shape but with the side opening up. I was very taken with that one, but think they will be very sought after.
  4. Some years ago I had a full set of Canvas made for a MW, including sidescreens. The company was Undercover Covers in Birmingham, a chap called Steve. It was an excellent job and I had the choice of the heavy flax canvas as original or the lighter modern canvas. I opted for the heavy one. Not sure if he is still doing vintage work but think they had a stand at Beltring a couple of years ago. They do a lot of Land Rover canopies and work for the Ministry of Defence.
  5. Just got the details of John Wheatley's funeral. It is on Tuesday 26th Feb, 1240hrs at Barham Crematorium (off the A2 past Canterbury), CT4 6QU. All are welcome. Anyone who wishes to send flowers can send them to his home address (PM me for it) or direct to the Crematorium.
  6. Neil, It depends on the time of day, you could come off a J10 and head down the A20, then as you leave Sellindge, you will see the Airport Cafe on your left and it will be just after that. But, if you time it wrong there are long queues to leave the M20 Southbound at J10 at certain times of the day, so if you see it backed up, just continue to J11. There is only about 2-3 miles difference at a guess. Richard
  7. Hi Maurice, As you say, some vehicles are numbered in sequence with chassis number, Daimler Scout cars for starters and BSA motorcycles. Both of these examples I have seen in factory photos and appears that census numbers were painted on before despatch.
  8. From what I was told when shown around recently, the lane up to the main racecourse entrance will only be used for stallholder traffic and emergency services, etc. The road in for vehicles, booking in, etc will be made using an existing gateway on the A20, just a little way past the Airport Cafe coming from Ashford direction. I understand there should be traffic lights in operation at that point as well. No doubt you will hear more in the near future.
  9. Hi Danny, That list is, as Maurice said, from Bart Vanderveen's Bedford book. The reason for it giving production figures from 1940 and not late 1939, may well stem back to the British motor industries' system of starting production figures from around Autumn time, a bit like a financial year. I seem to recollect it might have been around August come to think of it, that would, for instance make 1940 figures go from Aug 39 to Aug 40. Just an idea. Another problem I have noticed when trying to work out census numbers from chassis number on Bedfords. They never run in sequence and I believe this was because the census number was only allocated to the particular vehicle when it arrived at the RAOC Vehicle Depot. For lots of reasons, vehicles could be out of sequence in delivery, possibly due to rectification of defects at the factory, etc.
  10. Hi Glyn, A few weeks ago I had an invite to be shown around, very impressed with the plans and a nice layout. Looks like it will be a better site than the old one. Looking forward to it cheers, Richard
  11. Rattlesnake Bob ......... if you need a brand new silencer for a Mk4, I have one, they are stainless steel and different to the normal Ferret.
  12. Hi Mark, Steering ... you mention having a play with the fluid levels, if it had lost some fluid it may well be under the toeboard in the drivers compartment where the master cylinders are, this will not flow into the gearbox area, wondering if it was leaking out of the piston end of the cylinder, although you say it is now alright. Piston could have stuck in. regards, Richard
  13. It is actually the sad remains of a Mk4 Ferret, often nicknamed the Big Wheeled Ferret. They had a wading screen and you can see where the decks were fixed to the hull.
  14. Hi Duncan, A very good looking RL you have there, well done.
  15. I have some sad news about one of our forum members who has just passed away. John Wheatley slipped peacefully away last night while in Maidstone hospital. I know he had informed us on the forum of his condition. Best known as owner of Bertha, his Morris Commercial C8GS, he mainly attended shows around Kent, but did venture to Normandy with it in 2009 and used to do the Bethune trips as well. RIP John
  16. Guy, I noticed from your photos that you had swapped the choke assembly
  17. Hi all, Just another reminder to those that intend coming to Corowa for this year's Annual Swim-In and Military Vehicle Gathering in March, to send your entries in to pre-register. By doing so you will receive a participant pack and special event hat for this year's themes of Year of the Trailed Equipment and Year of the Armoured Vehicle. Just to dispell any rumours to the contary, the traditional Saturday drive will start as usual at Bangerang Park where we will assemble then proceed this year to Corowa Showground for the display and swap meet. For more information, look back in this thread or go to our website, www.corowaswim-in.org where you can download the entry form and see the last issue of KVE News, released in January. Any questions please contact us by email on kveinc@optusnet.com.au you can also send your entry in to this address and pay by deposit, check out on the website by going to the Downloads section. Good number of entries so far and still coming in at a steady rate. It looks like this year's themes are very popular. Looking forward to meeting you all. regards, Richard KVE Committee member and Newsletter Editor
  18. Hi Guy, That carb part number (C583) actually relates to an OX and OY. The QL carb is C590, the only real difference I think is the setting of the speed governor. The governer is set for around 40mph in top gear, but can inhibit speed when trying to get up a hill in a lower gear, if you find that happening the seal can be removed a slight adjustment made. The QL has a longer spring bracket than the MW due to the difference in the throttle linkage. regards, Richard
  19. Hi Wedgetail, Where abouts in Central NSW are you? If you are able to get there, there is a big military vehicle gathering taking place at Corowa NSW on the Murray river, 11th to 17th March, with a swap meet on Saturday morning 16th March. If you are looking for Blitz parts it might be useful. regards, Richard
  20. Hello Guy, From what I can see, it looks the right type of carb, but the part number will confirm. Just found a photo of my engine and I had made a bracket and secured it to a manifold bolt. My engine had been fitted with a Chevrolet carb by the Danish army so it is now back to the correct Solex carb. Richard
  21. I was not sure if that was an O or C. That makes sense now. The RCD designed and made gun carriages, etc.
  22. Hi John, I have not looked at my engine for a while, but seem to think it the bracket is on an adjacent manifold stud. QL carb is the same, so no difference in that respect.
  23. I think the stamp on the bottom would be the box maker, maybe Royal Ordnance Depot ?
