  1. Is there anyone on here who uses BT Internet and a user of MLU Forum? I was on it this morning then this evening I get a notice come up that the web address to MLU is blocked by Parental Control. I have never activated the feature and when I click on to say this was blocked incorrectly, then log in it says I am not the account holder, so been going around in circles. Apparently the sites that are assessed for blocking are done by a 3rd party and not BT ......... maybe HMVF next?
  2. With respect, I am experienced in Saracens, having worked on them since the Seventies. I would not post up on an issue such as this unless being very familiar with the equipment. The braking system is unlike any car, and has a hyd pump producing constant pressure. The brakes or steering do not have to be worked to bleed air if only the accumulator is removed and refitted, due to this circuit being the constant pressure one. regards, Richard
  3. Hi Nic, When you refit the accumulators, the oil side can be bleed at the adjacent check point on each pipe, No. 4 on your diagram. You may need to make up a little pipe to do this as it is the point where pressure checks are carried out, the cap is removed and fitting released slightly to open up. Without a pipe you might get a soaking! Obviously, this is done with engine running and there will be little air in the system. regards, Richard
  4. Sad to hear of Bernard's passing. He was my first contact with the MVCG (later MVT) when I joined in 1977, when he was membership secretary. Regards Richard
  5. Hi Sean, I picked the Lanc up on Flightradar24, on its run in to Iceland, they were flying at around 6000 ft. Apparently the signal from the transponder cannot be picked up once away from ground based receiving stations, due to curvature of earth and low altitude. Once it is near or over land the signal is picked up. Hopefully we will be able to pinpoint it when it is operating over the UK in coming weeks.
  6. The Lanc just landed in Iceland a short time ago.
  7. I am with you ........ having spent a lot of time working on the weird and wonderful plant that the army had, far more challenging to repair than a lorry or CVR(T). Probably the No.1 on my short list of postwar vehicles to own. ..... just need the fuel and a bit of land to desecrate with it.
  8. The Lanc has been delayed from departing Canada when No.2 engine would not start, reported earlier to have been flooded. Departure is now scheduled at 10am on Tuesday
  9. Hi Ron, The cover was a BSA part.
  10. The military B40 had a plastic or fibre glass cover which went over the battery then the rubber strap secured it, as I recall. Owned both mine in the early 1970's.
  11. According to DVLA, it was manufactured in 1966 and after disposal first civilian registered in July 1975
  12. I have done extensive repairs on a number of these machines while they were in service and always thought them to be a fascinating piece of equipment. There were some obvious weak points in the design that gave recurring problems but that said if used properly they could produce a very tidy trench or pit. Although they were based on Thornycroft Nubian running gear I recollect many of the base vehicles were produced by Scammell while the actual machine was a product of ROF Nottingham. It used coal face digging technology as I recall.
  13. Hi Tony, My Bedford is also blessed with no priming lever, a cost saving by GM no doubt. It is never any problem, just a turn over for about 10 secs after it has been standing for weeks / months and it will fire up. I also had problems some years back with the dreaded red coating from a jerrican, it would roll up and get sucked up the pick up pipe, my fault for removing the strainer from the neck on one occasion to save splashing. Caused me no end of bothers until last bits were removed from the tank.
  14. These photos did the rounds a few years ago and the true story is on the web, it was in Ireland as I recall.
  15. As they say,...."99% of ignition problems are fuel problems" :-) I say that as the engine ran for about 10 miles or so then stopped and restarted after a while, that something might be being sucked up against the pick up pipe and after vacuum in the fuel line drops it falls away and you get going again. Had this years ago when working for the army. It was a Bedford which had broken down several times before, it got recovered and I found a repair invoice in the tank that would occasionally get sucked against the pipe.
  16. Don't know whether you noticed but there was a Valentine at W&PR this year .......... not a French one either. Nice to see it there John !
  17. Their website is www.br-tzip.pl and the leaflet I have is regarding Universal Carrier, they state "we have extensive experience in track casting. Soon we will have on offer tracks for Universal Carrier made as the originals." I seem to recollect from their display board they made mention of Manganese steel track links, which I thinks the same steel as originals.
  18. I wonder if that was the one I saw 2 years ago in a storage shed at the Tank Museum?
  19. I am wondering if this was the WOT1 that was rallied some years ago by a MVT member called Brian Shoebridge. Cannot find a photo at present to confirm.
  20. The 2 Lancs are scheduled to display at Headcorn on Sat and Sun, see their website here; http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx also on the Sunday they will display at the Herne Bay air show.
  21. Hi Sean, I do remember one coming into workshops around that time having been restored by a TA unit in Surrey, It was there for a new canopy to be made over the petrol tank.
  22. hi Howard, the truck you mention was built around 1952 and was an OL petrol tanker. A number were still in storage in 70's. not an OY these were basically civvy models.
  23. We were still reconditioning a few OY engines in REME workshops around 1975
  24. Larry, I do not know how you could have missed a couple of Shermans,, the ALM Acmat, Austin K5, Bedford OXD or Fordson WOT8, they were prominently displayed all week. Some of the other vehicles have either changed ownership or owners have brought other vehicles along instead. Did you see the CMP C60X with workshop body? A rarity.
