  1. Nice vehicle! no shots of the left side. Do you have a gap bettween body and spare wheel? The later vehicles were all tweleve volt, supposedly to allow radio fittment and reliability. Chasis number should be up on the front drivers sidenear front spring hanger. A lot of vehicles were re-built, re-furbished in Europe for local use, and to Korea so there will be some changes. If you have the chassis number we may be able to date her more closley. The Walter P Chrysler Museum have copies of most of the build cards. They look remarkable like free wheel hubs on the front. Mines Ex Norwegian and I've often wondered if the hubs were standard fittment for the Norwegians.
  2. Here we go again, the why winch argument! Congratulations on buying the second best version of the best military vehicle ever built!

Having seen the things at work. I know which side I'd rather be on! :-D
  4. Didn't sell to civvys because A) more cost to fit B) Stronger mountings required for the seats so more weight C) More weight on fittings less money making payoad= cheaper to kill pasengers.

God they are ugly! Not that i'd argue with one!
  6. Reference Rule Three: A few weeks a go one of the locals got on the bus, Calvin Kline's up to the nipples, jeans at about knee hight. On board was a very distingushed, cultured beautilly spoken old lday (Who has a tounge like a chain saw and a mind like a razor) At some stage numppty must have bent over. A clear clarion beautifully modulated remark echoed through the vehicle, 'Young man! You must have ben excceding all the limits to get skid marks like that!'
  7. You have the right climate for those babies! Lovely pictures, more please.
  8. Still scary the first time it happens. They are excellent cross country. Sean Ryan took Land Rover's Marketing Director for a cross country, well more of a flight than a drive, in his. The guy was beaming. His comment was 'Why did we stop making theses!'
  9. Welcome a lot of memebers reminising about your fair country at the moment.
  10. Crab air VC10 had the seats in backwards because it was safer if they bumped into anything.
  11. Useful site for manuals. http://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/Maunals/Land_Rover_101_repair_operation_manual.pdf
  12. Welcome Dave. You should find plenty of toys here.
  13. We have to add three point turns to the training.
  14. That's unusaual! On freewheel the front axle sounds like a bag of bolts. :-D
  15. Ferret, try doing anything on the Ambulance version! :iamsmiling:
  16. Good place Mike. The 101's have a few funnies though! If you change oil or the filter, take the bottom of the oil pump off and pack with Petroleum jelly, this re primes the pump. Has the front axle started to sound like it's about to disintegarte yet? Scared the *** out of me the first time.
  17. What problem? :-D Came out a dream. As it happens the bore of the nipple was absolutley correct. Tightened up, a slight trepidation, one extra push, and the thing just twisted out. The Gremlins then got their own back, four and a half hours to take the back axle off and ex seaside 110! :banghead:
  18. If you have a 101 then membership of the 101 Club is esential. With only 2266 odd ever built, they are the ones who know.
  19. I've just had very practical help from a forum member. That's in addition to a lot of fun, I hope I've also been of some help to others. Looking at what has been achived so far. Where next?
  20. This time I'm going to fill the remains of the nipple tube with Comma Frost bite, useful stuff that.
  21. Thanks for the advice Degsey. The Sries 2 LWB is finally coming together and the question was which to refill hubs with.
  22. Welcome Theo, very impressive work you do.
