  1. You will need to contact DVLA, First to change the tax category to Private HGV, you are right, you cannot legally use a restricted use agricultral machine for private use if the Unimog can be verified as manufactured 1979, unless it was given a Q plate for other reasons, ie. re built from parts, it may be possible to re register on an age related plate. Then contact DVSA to arrange for a goods vehicle test as its 6000kg GVW, it does not need seat belts if it can be confirmed as manufactured 1979, belts in trucks were required from 2001. If it has a Tachograph, it may need to be calibrated for a first test, though for private use you are not required to use i And of course you will need a pre 1999 issued licence to drive it as it is a goods vehicle of 6000kg Gross weight, its too heavy to downrate to under 3500kg GVW. https://www.gov.uk/annual-test-for-lorries-buses-and-trailers/vehicles-that-must-take-the-annual-test
  2. Having blown up the pics it appears to have a modern repro body tub, "one of the best in the country"? for 30K..
  3. Weather permitting, the planes start taking off at 12 noon on Tuesday from Goodwood then 10 groups fly to various locations, Biggin Hill, Duxford, Bentwaters, North Weald, Colerne, Northholt, link to the routes. http://www.battleofbritainday.co.uk/#!routes/c1px Documentaries on Channel 4 TV too http://www.channel4.com/info/press/news/channel-4-commemorates-battle-of-britain-with-aerial-spectacular
  4. What a surprise here in South London, about 1.30pm, the distinct rattle of radial engines and B17 Sally B flies over, and back again later, it was also doing a display at wings & wheels show down at Dunsfold Surrey
  5. How many M38 buyers/collectors are out there?.....in reality, very few, I doubt if some of the higher values mentioned are seldom achieved, this fully restored M38 on Milweb and similar nice ones have been for sale for a long time now http://www.milweb.net/webvert/74441
  6. The Military Humber Snipe staff car was specially modified for use off road and sand/desert conditions and fitted with wider front/rear wings to house the large 900x13" tyres. Similar modified Ford V8 cars were also built. No Austin staff cars were modified the same, they were basically a civilian production car and in service would have been restricted to On road use only, No Military Austin 16 ever saw the deserts of Africa so would have had just the normal size tyres, possibly fitted with off road tread pattern 600/6.50 x16 tyres on the rear but not oversize ones
  7. Plus in the same auction the WW1 WD Holt crawler gun tractor http://www.cheffins.co.uk/lot/-1156588-vintage-0
  8. Another so called "authentic restored Jeep".at a prestige auction, oh dear where does one start with the list of obvious incorrect parts, think this Jeep was previously on Ebay for ages, it has a lot of CJ parts, wheels, oversize tyres, CJ bonnet, looks like its got a CJ T90 gearbox, M38 rear lights, wrong windscreen and made up inner screen frame, CJ steering wheel, made up A frame, M38 seats? theyre sure not MB seats, wonder what the engine is?.....what a load of rubbish the auctioneers description is, no doubt someone will pay through the nose for it
  9. 75th Anniversary Battle of Britain day flypast over Southern England involving 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes from Goodwood aerodrome http://www.battleofbritainday.co.uk/#!about/mainPage
  10. Its A 4X4 conversion of a 1950's civilian Fordson Thames ET truck, it was never in service with UK forces, would have only been built in small numbers for foreign armies, doubt if any survive http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/28th-july-1950/44/converting-4x2-to-4x4 Only the stock 4x2 Fordson ET truck was used by the Civil Defence Corp, quite a few examples are in preservation
  11. Its a Fordson, here is a 1950 Road test of the 4X4 converted Fordson Thames, modified by Harpers, Guildford Surrey http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/28th-july-1950/44/converting-4x2-to-4x4
  12. On a WW2 T84 gearbox Remove the gear lever and pour oil in from the top untill its the right level and runs out of the filler hole, not sure if the lever comes out easily on an M38 T90 box, the transfer box can be filled so much easier by removing the PTO cover plate giving a very large filling access

  18. Delays and congestion getting to the Show Will continue to Sunday as M20 Motorway remains closed from Junction 8 to Junction 11 and all southbound motorway traffic is diverted onto the A20 and other surrounding roads, and just to add to the chaos a Gale warning has been issued for the Kent area for friday night too http://www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/news/op-stack-is-back-40483/ No Foreign contingent of heavy ww2 vehicles at the show this year, presume they are stuck in France, its going to seriously affect visitor numbers too as Police are advising drivers to avoid the area ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33647761
