  1. A few more bits and pieces going on . Chassis and axles all cleaned off ready for dismantling , hubs stripped , new brake cylinders required , master cylinder all restored S/S liner etc , new king pins and bush's . I was going to restore the steering wheel myself but have decided to send it away for a proper job doing, going to replace the bearings in the gearbox while its out , rebuilding the starter motor ,managed to find a place that supplies the brush's and bush's , the suspension arms and drop links are going for refurb, new bush's and whatever else they find, hopefully not too much :-).Engine now going back together nicely after its health check. Wooden body isn't too bad 4 pieces of timber are a bit soft ,leaving the body till last and the rest is done up and running. Got the paint sorted , found a couple of panels and also under the regulator with the original paint still present .......Brown....... took the panels into the paint shop and had them paint match them , so putting it back to its original colour .
  2. Engine now back from the engineering shop , new shells , mains, pistons, valve guides, springs ,valves all skimmed up ready for re assembly :cool2:
  3. Had my dash cam rigged up to film the whole thing filmed the crowds on the balconies , my lad stood up filming all around ,crowd surges the whole lot . Later on sat down got the laptop out watch it ............................ hadn't b****y recorded it had it :banghead: , so the dash cam is no more............
  4. Looks very similar , some one will know for deffinate
  5. Welcome to the forum Enrico . Its good too hear from someone from that area of Italy . My Mother came from Muggia , my father landed on D Day worked his way across Europe into Bremen and finished up in Berlin .He met her in 1946 after being deployed to Trieste/Muggia to guard the borders with Yugoslavia ,he was billeted just outside Muggia at Lazzerette . I do go back on occasion and camp near Muggia. Dave
  6. Thanks Howard , its taking time but will be worth it in the end . Gearbox opened up looks all in good fettle , no oil only gunge but cleaned out great . Compressor was a little stiff but seems to have cleaned up ok , if it doesn't work when I get it all up and running I have a NOS one still in its box I can fit .
  7. Its been a while since I last updated my renovation. We've been busy with the engine , full strip down ......new valves , valve guides and springs , re-bore ,new pistons , rings , mains , bigends ..... block, head and manifolds skimmed..... rebuilt clutch etc ,we'll see if the oil pump needs replacing once we crank it over. The hardest job has been sourcing and making bits that were missing , tool holders , clips, tyres ,vacum wiper motors blades /arms ,door locks etc etc.Another job is to make the metal shields that that fit under the rear wheel arches ,make one good front panel out of two , I've had the seats and two of the canvas mudflaps re-covered. Its now onto the body and chassis , stripping it down as the photo's , wheels and fuel tanks off then the blasting treatment:).
  8. Good point , I had to measure my exhaust valves, Norman told me there are two sizes..........standard , and the desert modification which was slightly bigger. Mine had the modification done ? , the interesting thing is while stripping the paint off we came across two shades of sand/dark beige (desert camo) . Been in touch with the RLC before Christmas but not had anything back from them . I did have the measurements of the two sizes written down , but can't find the damn bit of paper .
  9. I managed to get complete sets of guides , springs and valves off Norman at Bygone Bedford
  10. These lads will blend you any oil you need .I you tell them the spec you require they will advise on what if any other oil is sufficient ,or they will blend a suitable if not a better spec oil for you . They blend specialist oils for racing engines , drag engines and classics and standard oils etc http://www.smithandallan.com/ Dave
  11. I'll get hold of them after the easter hols , any idea on the battery wire Dia ? Dave
  12. Can anyone tell me the battery lead sizes 10mm / 16mm ? . The ones on the truck I removed are 6mm on the Neg and the previous "Owner/Bodger" has used 16mm single Steel wire Armoured for the Pos  . I'm wanting to have the master cylinder rebuilt , I understand there is someone that re sleeves/rebuilds them , can anyone tell me who does it please . Things have slowed down at the moment due to falling off a trailer breaking my Knee cap , Big toe and a few bruised ribs  .The wings have been removed the body and cab have been unbolted this week by Adam Wright at MV Depot Helperby ready to lift off ,and then its shot blasting and priming time . Been busy renovating the speedo , ignition assy ,shot blasting and priming the small bits .The air filter was incorrect so a bit of modification was needed as in the photos ,steering wheel next on the list .
  13. We used to have these army surplus WWII stretchers in the cadets in the 70's and the local St Johns used to have them too
  14. Wise move , as I said previously they even confiscated the DENIX Thompson's .I don't take any weapons to Normandy anymore since the carry on with the Duane .
  15. Thanks for that , mine must have just been around when they changed them . Dave
  16. I acquired this speedo thinking it might fit my 1943 MW ..............no too small :nut: . Its quite a bit smaller than the one that fits mine , also it has no facility for a bulb holder .Measuring it across the back its approx 3" .The Ignition sw is one I have just refurbished , debating whether to keep as a spare or sell on . The question is , is it an early MW speedo ? if it is and someone needs one I'll sell it on for what I paid as its no use to me . Dave
  17. Really ? I made the above comments from what I know as in the Pattern Reference, so after your comments I looked it up .68 pattern "combat" smocks were in use and worn by the Parachute regiment in the Falklands, whether they were called "Para Smock" or "Combat Smock" ? The 77 to 78 Para Smock used the 68 Pattern print . 1966 Patt = 1st GS DPM Jacket - issued briefly to ABF as *trials* kit 1968 Patt = 2nd GS DPM Jacket - issued only to ABF recruits 1st Para Smock - *no* FFD pocket on right arm, issued mid-late 1970s 2nd Para Smock - FFD pocket on right arm, issued early/mid 1980s Trials Para Smock - Darker DPM, issued early 1990s Replacing the Pattern 1960 Combat Uniform was the Pattern 1968 (P68). The uniform had a number of modifications based on the experience with the Pattern 60 as well as additional items such as a detachable hood, peaked field cap and lined cold weather cap. The P68 uniform was worn by British troops during the Falklands War (1982). Early versions of the DPM Parachutist's Smock (1977 or 78) were also manufactured in this time period, using the same camouflage print. Several colour variations of DPM have been documented on this uniform,
  18. Happy to help.Far and few between and when they do turn up daft money seems to change hands
  19. Wrong pattern for a 68 it also has the 3 buttons around the collar to attach a hood. It looks like a 90's its got the FFD pouch on the sleeve. Just put up a pic of the 68 pattern for reference .
  20. Just an update I received , thought I would pass it on as a matter of interest to those that are attending Arromanche and the Sword /Oustreham areas on June 6th .............Don't shoot the messenger , I've just been reading through the post and rather heated one in areas :nut: ......Right here we go : Arromanche :June 6th ....Morning visit parade with the Dutch Royal Family and Prime Minister ,British Royals in the afternoon . HMS Bulwark off shore Access to Ouisterham and the International event is more or less by ticketed invitation and is a VVIP + a few Veterans event and totally inaccessible on 6th June. 19 heads of state at Ouistreham the security is as you can imagine. All other day's – no problem Travelling about everywhere else will be difficult due to the level of traffic, rather than places being blocked off or badge access..... Some roads will be blocked off in and around Arromanches for sensible reasons. There you go chaps , hope this helps to some degree so you can plan your itinerary NB as far as beach access goes , I havn't a clue :saluting: Dave
