  1. Not sure if I've put this in the right section :undecided: . I have a couple of Pyrene extinguishers and the markings on one of them is as in the photograph . Anyone any ideas or knows what it could possibly be from , its broad arrow marked with GPO in raised letters ? Thanks Dave
  2. Picked up the new mudflaps today courtesy of Paul and Debs (Rusty Wrecks, Appleby) brilliant job Cleaned up the battery box cover that came up good so that's reusable , tomorrow get on with replacing some of the sideboard timbers that are beyond saving ,then hopefully by Friday should have it all back together apart from the wheel arch box's .Then another trip up to see Paul and Debs reference making up the wheel arch liners for me :-). Cleaning off the headlight rings under the many layers of greens, olive drab and desert camo paints found more traces of the original factory brown paint
  3. Thanks for that Andy.............that's interesting a trap door ? Dave
  4. Well had a good day today , managed to get all the floor done and replaced the crossmember ,just need to give it a good lashing with preservative now . Can't do anymore this week ,so next week its replace the bad boards in the sides ,headboard and tail board then its reassembly time . Andy would it be possable to come up and take some photos of yours to use as a reference ? Dave
  5. Thanks Julian Hopefully I'll get the floor completed Monday , I wanted to give it a good lashing with preservative before I start replacing some of the panels on the sides Thanks Dave
  6. Hi Julian If you don't mind me asking , what wood treatment /preservative are you using for treating the new timbers ?.Not being a joiner I don't know what to use that won't react with the paint :nut:. Thanks Dave
  7. Got all the floorboards off today , cut into the middle of a board and they measure 1 1/8" , sorry J .Also making a new cross member both ends are rotten and a few planks to replace on the sides .Had a good day managed to get all the floorboards planed down to size so Friday should have the floor done :cool2:. Dave
  8. Hi J The floorboards measured up at 1" , I'm getting a slightly bigger size and machining it down(well a friend who has a joinery shop is ) .I found a mixture of wood while stripping it down the "side skids" and other add on pieces of timber are mahogany ! Dave
  9. Made up some of the metal work today for the MW , going to replace the floor next week so looking at August to be on the road ...........fingers crossed. The drilled holes are misaligned thats because I followed the holes exactly to the ones that were on the originals .:-D
  10. Front engine mounting plate that bolts to the block behind the timing cover
  11. Engine mounting plate that bolts to the block behind the timing cover
  12. Help :-D I understand the bolts that hold the cab onto the chassis are Whitworth ? could anyone advise me what size they are , I'm wanting to replace the castellated nuts that are badly corroded . Thanks Dave
  13. Thanks Andy much appreciated ,hope you had a good trip certainly the weather for it today .Remind me on I have those starter motor parts of yours. Dave
  14. That's very kind of you Andy .I'm going to get all the timbers cut and floor replaced ,then its the putting the rest back together correctly that's going to be the tester so your offer is much appreciated .I'm going to get Paul from Rusty Wrecks to make me some new liners for the wheel arch box's which will probably be in the next couple of weeks so using yours as reference will be very helpful .Thanks again Andy Dave
  15. Thanks for that Nicky , I was curious about the angle iron bits around the wheel box's thought it probably was to do with the rot , but now its cleared it up I'll get some new pieces knocked up as the metal work is also well corroded . Cheers Dave
  16. Give me a call when you get the bits and I'll come over Dave
  17. Hi Could anyone supply me with a photo of the inside of the back wooden body so I can use it as a reference .Reason I ask is, I'm not sure if all the angle iron pieces are original fit ,or they have been added at a later date to keep the wheel arch's in place due to rot . Thanks Dave
  18. Shame your not a bit closer you could have used my press . When he refurbed mine he ran out of the drop arm bush's and had to fit a couple an 1/8" shorter , I 'll get onto him and get the correct size by the sounds of it he's had some more made :-) Dave
  19. I sent mine away and had them rebuilt but I can't think for the life of me what they called the company ,BUT I do have their phone number 020 8651 5347 . Dave
  20. I thought it was just the 4 floor boards and 5 on the sides , but taking it apart found most of the ends of the floor boards were rotten plus the frame cross member:banghead: . The thing that I'm concerned about is the new boards will look odd against the old as they are well weathered .I'm going to call at out local engineering supplies to see if they can source the coach bolts . What woodscrews do you recommend to use steel or brass ? Luckily I managed to salvage most of the nuts , I sat with blow lamp ,plus gas and plenty of coffee and got most of them off :cool2: . Dave
  21. Nice job , you make it look so easy , that's what I'm on with now ...the woodwork . What looked to be a "few" bits of wood to replace have turned out to be a nearly a full floor plus a few on the sides :nut: , I found most of the coach bolts were rotten through aswell .............. I'm going to replace most of the metalwork too as most of it is deeply pitted Dave
  22. Nice day sun shining ideal opportunity to get cracked on with the body ,unfortunately strippin the bad bits out found more rot than I thought ,found one of the main frame rails is rotten aswell ,its a full take down :-( .While I'm on I'm going to replace the arch liners and mud flaps as they have a trace of rust worm, so rather than patch them I might aswell replace them .
