  3. Well done Tomas, it looks like you are making good progress. Jules
  4. Hi Guys, Well, I've had my 42 GPW for 7 years now and she is looking a little tatty on the paint work, I rebuilt her 7 years ago and finished her in 2nd Rangers colours, I'm not one for washing and polishing, I like to use my vehicles for what they were intended! Anyway, I'm now planning a Re Spray and fancy painting her up as a vehicle of the USAAF, I guess a well known B17 Squadron ? So..........anyone out there any suggestions and more importantly any photos of examples I could base mine on ? Cheers Jules
  5. Keith, who's C8 is '227 DPG' I see you riding in it ? Nice Pics, I like to see these survivors ! Jules
  6. It would be nice to see some upto date photos Jim ? are you doing the total restoration? I would like a Tilly one day. Jules
  7. All sounds very interesting and I for one, being a keen RFC historian will be visiting. We have a WW1 Aerodrome in the cotswolds, called Rendcombe, that was restored back in the early 1990's and is home to the Cadburys Crunchy 'wing walkers' They did hold one or two airshows there back in the 90's but not heard of anything since. Jules
  8. Just cos I know you all love a good problem to solve! Well yesterday, whilst enjoying a day of work, 'cos I could not get there' I thought I would tackle my Jeep. Well again, she turns over & fires enough to kick the starter out, but thats it. So I took off the valve cover, then thought it would be easer to see if i removed the Carb and manifolds, carb was easy, but the two nuts under the manifold are right ########! So, in having removed the carb, I noticed looking into the inlet manifold it was awash with fuel, I had to push in some rolled up paper towl to soak it all up, quite a bit! I then took out each plug and sprayed penitrating oil in the ports, Then put the carb back and fired her up again...............this time with success! she ran, not as normal, ticked over fine but was a little hessident when revving. So.................I thought thats it a sticking valve, But this morning, back to square one! would not start, which anoyed me as I wanted to play with it in the snow! So tonights job is to take off the cylinder head, turn over the engine and watch which valves stick . will keep you all infomed Jules
  9. if its turning over too fast is it low on compression? i.e valve adjusters have wound out, they do it for fun!. Baz, thats interesting and perhaps where I should be looking, from the start I thought I heard a metalic knocking from the top/side of the engine? but would that only 'knock' when under compression ? Also why it won't start now? jules
  10. Well, just spent 2 hours out in the cold, trying to get to the bottom of my problem. Now, she wont start! turns over fast, starter kicks out, fires once but then nothing! Just wondering if.......................................this has all started since I fitted a new 6 volt battery, when first fitted I was supprized how quickly it span the engine, it seamed too fast for it to catch!, anyway it did on several occasions, until tonight, do you think it might be something to do with the dizzy, have checked that, it's not turned in its self, as still tight, have changed condenser too tonight, but still nothing, could it be the ballance weights? Off to get my Manual out! jules
  11. Just a Quickie! What size wheels/tyres does an RL have, 900x16 ? Jules
  12. Thanks for your suggestions chaps, Yes, I will try the screwdriver trick, & yes, at first I thought it sounded like a 'pinking' sound, but what would cause that? Doubt I will get to it before the weekend, but will keep you all posted! Jules
  13. Hi Guys Firstly Happy New Year to you all. Whilst driving my GPW on our MVT New Year road run, I noticed a metalic nocking noise comming from under my hood, but only when engine was pulling or under load, I have not noticed a drop in oil pressure nor any on the floor. Could this be the start of big end trouble? what else should I look for, before I drop the sump ? and will I be able to see/feel anything if I do ? Looking forward to an oily weekend! Jules
  14. Hi Guys Just to add my penny worth, I have been in touch with the range officer at Kirkcudbright, over the last two years, a very nice chap, who is willing to to help our Comet projects, I can confirm that no complete hulls can be removed from the site, as it is an SSSI, and as such the area around the wrecks can not be disturbed. We are hoping to spend sometime this spring collecting parts for our project. Jules
  15. I am looking for a Pair of C.A.V type CMRF 140/DP. Cheers. J.
  16. I have the original Brass Lub plate for my CS8, I'll make some enquires about copies.....................but I am looking for a pair of the large CAV headlights! Jules
  17. I'll second that from woa2, wartime british vehicles only painted the split rim nuts RED, this is stated in many wartime workshop manuals. I was post war that the use of white wheel nuts became common. Jules
  18. Sounds Interesting, I've an interest in Didcot, when it was No3 Stores Depot Royal Flying Corps in the 14 - 18 war. I have some paperwork and a very nice 'squadron' photo. Jules
  19. John, the iron work for the two inner straps is bolted on the inside of the body! no idea why, and of course it stops it folding down! I will rectifiy this when I re build. Jules
  20. Hi Glynn Very nice Vehicles, Have you got any Radio kit in your Guy ? I would love to come and see them sometime, seeing your CS8 really makes me want to get on with mine, I hope to start in January and have her ready for May/June. I will be very pleased if mine looks like yours by next Summer. I'll PM you. Jules
  21. Glynn, Would love to see some photos of your Guy Ant, also your CS8, as I am about to start work on my project. Jules
  22. So, who ? where? is it on the road? Would just like to compare notes. Jules
  23. John, Those pictures are REALLY interesting, because I think it is mine, when were they taken, the view of the inside, shows the folding table, and the 'planked' over wheel arches just as mine did. I know nothing of the Budge collection, where is it and who do I contact to ask what happened to it ? Jules
  24. Daz Ive got 4 good 20" rims if you want them off a Morris Quad, But I'm in Oxfordshire. Jules
  25. WE have all seen the rise in WW2 jeep prices, theres not much around for less than 9k, but at some of the higher price ranges, the 12k,14k and even 15k price tags, are they actually selling at these prices? Jules
