  1. Is there any thing I need to know/do if I want to buy say a basket case Jeep from France and trailer it back here for restoration? It would be un registered. Jules

  3. I rebuilt and kitted out this Hunter F6 Cockpit, XF383, but sadly sold it to fund the restoration of the rust bucket next to it! Jules
  4. What a great shame Tim, Could we rebuild the Leyland as an RFC Lorry ? JUles
  5. I have just read with great interest the article on Rippo's fantastic MWD, It is in this months (well December's) Classic Military Vehicle magazine. Some lovely photographs of a top class restoration job. Well done John. P.S Love the paint colour & am ready to order the same for my 1940 MCC CS8. Jules
  6. REME 245, do you have a copy of that article, I could see ? Interesting what you say, mine was found 'in a barn' many years ago. I think that the Hard Cab roof is original, I have seen them in original photo's with the same, also there are photo's of 15cwt Guy Ant's with Light Warning Bodys and hard cab tops. I must also add, that having erected the Light Warning Aerial on mine back in the summer, it took two of us on the roof & two on the ground passing poles up, and I certainly, more than once wanted to stand on the cab roof, which is not wise if it is canvass!! to reach. Jules
  7. Hello Runflat Thanks for that, having compared the photo's you're right, it is now in the Shuttleworth collection. So I am still right in thinking that with mine, and this one, there are no more with this type of body.......................................unless anyone knows different? Jules
  8. Dear All I came across this photo of a WOT2 with a light Warning body just like mine, The photo was taken by Stuart Wright at a Duxford Military Vehicle Show about 12 to 14 years ago. Does anyone know who this WOT2 belongs to ? Registration PSU 552 I would just like to get in touch 'to compare notes' ! Cheers Jules
  9. Here's a couple of pic's I just took, saddly these two do not have scabards. one has some extra numbers stamped on the hilt end '2.SH' and a number '942' the other has '3.YL' and '448' ?????? Jules
  10. I have three Bayonets, one is a Lee Metford in it's scabard. made by Sandersons, and dated 9.01 it is in really nice condition, whats it worth ? the other two are what I think are WW1 British Lee Enfields 1907, but they have a hooked Quillion. both are dated 1907, one has 'JAC' below the date. any help ? Jules
  11. OK Rick, the easy part is digging...............the hardest part is the paperwork and leg work before hand! I've got most of the crash logs, i'll have a look for any in your area. I'm looking for a Spitfre at the moment, nearly found it............. Jules
  12. Any one else involved with Aircraft Archaeology on the fourm ? I have been for 30 odd years, mainly around Oxfordshire where we had mainly Operational Training Units, Wellingtons, Whitleys, Hampdens, Oxfords, Harvards, but we also have had our fair sprinkling Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mosquitos and even a 617 Squadron Lanc! I was involved many years ago in some of the Kent Battle of Britain digs, don't do as much these days, but am thinking of dusting off the trusty metal detector and getting out in the open air! Any one else interested? Jules
  13. Yep, Put me down for a Hunter............ then again I did own one many years ago!
  14. Yep for me it the old Matador for heavy Morris Commercial CS8 for medium and again the Tilly for light Tanks.......................well I would have to say the Comet.........would'nt I ! Jules
  15. Hello Nettles Good to have another oxon member, how about joining our North Oxfordshire and Cotswolds MVT ? Jules
  16. Hello George That looks great, well done, would love to see it sometime. I built a Spit many years ago, also worked on a Mossie and Hurricane. I live in Oxfordshire, but now have fun in my MV's Regards Jules
  17. Thanks for that Info, Very useful, I will use the RAOC Markings of RED/GREEN. I will post some Pictures in the next few days. Jules
  18. Hi Chaps Nearly finished my restoration of out Morris Commercial CDSW Recovery 6 X 4. Now, she is all painted up in Brown/green camo as per 1941 period, but I am now about to apply Div. Markings and would apreachate your help. Now, We want her in some way attached to the Oxfordshire & Buckingshire Light Infantry, I think I am right in that they were part of the Welsh Div. and would have the Welsh 'W' in red on a dark green background on the Drivers wing, But what about the other wing, would she have been a REME Vehicle ? and so have the REME Colours ? and a number over layed ? Any thoughts? Cheers Jules Look out for her at Beltring!
  19. Well, thankfully I saw her fly at Brize Norton Air Show in June, which is where she is based through the season. She has been seen on several occasions in the Skies of Oxfordshire! Jules
  20. Yep, Me too Driving the Wot 2 down and low loading the M3 ! I would actually prefer to drive the M3 from Oxford, it's a better ride! See you there. Jules
  21. Good to see you are still making head way Rick! Mines about the same stage. Just been working on the Cab roof rails today. Jules
  22. Anyone know where I can get two Stats from for my WOT ? Jules P.S Throughly flushed cooling system out last night with Holts 2 part Rad Flush, a few small fragments came out but not as moch as I would hope. Took the rad off Last night, and am taking it to a test/repairs today, it does not look to bad though, but will have it tested. Also whilst on the subject of WOT2's I noticed that my front two engine rubber mounts were not in the best condition, again where can I get these from ? Perhaps I should change the rear ones too! Jules
  23. Well last night, although short of time, As it was suggested I fit Thermostates, I thought I would try an idea. I have no States to fit, but instead fitted two large washers with 15mm holes, therefor reducing the flow and as Goanna suggested allowing the rad to filter slower. I fitted them where the Stats go, in the top of the heads. Ran the engine, again at idle no problem, but when increasing to high revs, it was not as bad as without the restrictors, however as soon as I throttled back, up it all came in spurts and spots! Perhaps my 'restrictors' were the wrong side of the pumps ? So, Tonight I will try the Holts Rad flush! I am most grateful to you guys for all your suggestions, it's quite reasuring to know we have this community of help and advise. The saga continues! Will it be at Trucks and Troops,? or will I have to use my Trusty old GPW! Jules
  24. Mike, That sounds interesting, you could be onto something, mine has no thermostats, but then neither did my Morris C8, but...............that did not had two water pumps! Can anyone else confirm that I need Thermostats as Mike suggests ? Jules
  25. Ok, this morning I have opened both Rad drain cocks, put a hose in the the top and flushed through with cold water. Still did it............ So, this afternoon took off both Cylinder Heads, nice new copper gaskets already fitted, also noticed the head had been skimmed, no signs of damage to gasket or marks on head or block, so to make certain sure I replaced gaskets with just a fine smear of gasket sealant. All bolted down, and ran her again................ No luck, still the same, the more i revved her the more she pumped out of the over flow! If I had kept up the high revs I'm sure she would have dumped all the water again ! Surely, it can not be head gasket now, but what else? there is not thermostat fitted. All hoses are clear. perhaps I should but some of that Rad Flush? could it still be a blocked Rad ?
