  2. Rick is right, This happened to me on my first drive down to W & P show, from Oxford fine, got to Clacket lane services and ..........lots of smoke, rear brakes locked on! only way to release was to let the pressure out of the rear joint. On inspection I found the tiny hole that is the pressure relief port was completely blocked so the cylinder pressurised its self! Jules
  3. Thank you Richard, so the best tip is to check the tyre condition of any potential purchase! Jules

  11. I thought it would be useful if we could start a thread on WW2 Vehicles used by the RAF, Having recently watched a documentry on Bomber Command, there was a good selection of RAF crew 'buses', tractors, Radio/Radar trucks & refuellers. So, how about uploading pictures of vehicles in RAF use during 1939 - 45 ? or some recent restorations! Over to you Jules
  12. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what the medal entitlement is/was for an old friend of mine, now sadly gone, I don't believe he ever recieved any awards, His was awarded the DFC but this was given by the King in 1945, He never had any of the stars or War & defence medals, what can I do ? Jules
  13. I thought Fred Dibnah had climbed his 'last church steeple' some years ago?
  14. Thanks for that photo Jaap, it is interesting to see how the mast is stowed, I bet there is an instruction book out there somewhere showing just that ! Jules
  15. I am sorry to report the death this morning of another of 'The Few' Wing Commander Bob Doe, a true Gent who will be sadly missed. I have spent several interesting hours in his company over recent years. R.I.P Bob. Jules
  16. Tim, Good Question! I sent months researching my 1943 RAF WOT2 Radar Truck, and concencus of opinion was to be the Late 1942 period colours of Dark Brown and Service Brown, (same as the WOT1 Fire Tender) I thnk you will find that the picture of the Tilly, is actually a dark print and what looks 'black' is actually Very Dark Brown. The Jeep question has also interested me, I have a feeling that they would have been all over RAF Service Brown, but again the only colour photo's of RAF Jeeps I have seen are in Desert Sand! Lets hope someone has the answer. Jules
  17. Sorry, could someone point me in the direction of downloading a manuel for the Wartime Chore Horse ? I need to start overhaulling mine. Jules

  21. Thats very impressive, would you care to identifiy the airframes ? Jules
  22. Can anyone give details of when and what vehicles had the head lamp covers, why just one side ? All service vehicles ? What was the official line? Jules

  25. Surely there is no need to re write history for the sake of a dogs name! This is our history and it should be told as it was, I for one do not see a problem! Jules
