  1. Good job Tony brought his convoy then, as we were a bit thin on the ground, the 'stiff breeze' wasn't very helpful !! So are you going this weekend ?
  2. Sorry, it was a 'one liner' on our local MVT site, then I saw the big posters on the side of the road between Barnsley and Doncaster ! It appears to be a large gathering and booking forms were on the 'Vintage vehicle site'. Someone asked me if I was going last sunday at Jeep and Cheerful, didn't know the guy but didn't get chance to chat as was on car park duty and he left before I could nab him, so thought I would ask on here, with a chance of meeting up etc
  3. Is anyone going or booked for this weekend ?is it too late to book or can we just turn up on spec ?:red:
  4. AeroVenture Museum Doncaster, bring your Military Vehicle , pick up your ration card and get Mrs Miggins famous cow pie for free !!! Not many registrations this year (but Steve H has ordered plenty of pie just in case)
  5. Well thought I had better post a timely reminder:D I must be gettin old , as time really does seem to be flying !:red:
  6. Brilliant Pics Niels ! the DANA looks an awesome piece of kit !
  7. Good old 'Tiffy truck' the one at the museum desperately needs some tlc:-|
  8. Did we see Berna and Bernadette heading towards Ackworth about 17.45hrs today ? on the new stretch of by-pass ? we were heading back to Doncaster on the 638 and I didn't have my camera:blush:
  9. Now that to a Yorkshireman is a very good price ! However I am insured by Footman James, Mr Flux declined to give me a price seeing as I wasn't using their services oops:blush:
  10. Thanks mark, they quoted me £105 for the year, didn't seem fazed at 5ton 16cwt :red:
  11. Thanks Mark, yes definitely 'commercial size' We have only been attending local shows up to now and have had access to friends with equipment local to the Museum, however now we want to go to places further afield ,then now is the time to get the all important 'cover' sorted. So not wanting to tempt fate and be ready for 2nd September plus want to plan ahead for future trips to shows etc
  12. Ok stupid question number err lost count.....:red: anyway as the thread title says, just as we were on our way back to the museum and queuing in endless traffic, one of the cab occupants asked the dreaded question' if we broke down, who would recover us ?' glancing at the little AA van at the side of the road then looking back at our much larger REO,so , who does verybody use for the 'larger mv's' ? and how much would I be expected to pay ? I have a families day at RAF Linton on Ouse on the 2nd of September, and now the seeds of doubt have been sown etc etc:undecided:
  13. Great Pics Mark ! Good to meet you Mate, thanks for coming along and supporting Simon's 'first attempt', all the volunteers at the museum commented on the attention to detail on all the displays !!! Oh and Sierra Yankee 99 (local police helicopter) flew by and had a double take on your 'co-driver' as you pulled out at the hotel roundabout !!! thanks again John
  14. Well coming from a family with a long military history, i guess we are all war criminals. On friday I will make my yearly pilgrimage to Salerno to see where Edgar was captured (KOYLI) his words resound in my ears " I gave no quarter I didn't expect to receive any either" November I will visit Koksidje and lay flowers at the grave of Phil's rear gunner (Lancaster) PC Gore only survivor to bail out end of may 1944 ( died of old age thank God)" would I fly over Germany and do it all again ? damn right I would" I have been to Flanders to see where my Grandfather served with the Royal Horse Artillery," We shelled till we ran out of stuff to bang in the breach !" Been to the South Atlantic once remembered old mates who didn't come back the list is endless However War is War we are the servants or were servants of the great and good, but I say again, do not ignore the underlying messages that are being sent out by these factions that hide behind the true historic enthusiasts. I guess I am still a bit 'green'? 'wet behind the ears' ? sublimely ignorant to what realy goes on at these shows ? Oh well that's my last post on this subject, but am glad that we have had the chance to debate and air our views !!
  15. No forgiveness required Sir, as I said (totally mis-read the lifetime bit) I didn't realise that Beltring had been called such names etc, I was just shocked at the blokes candid remarks and the use of aggressive body language hiding behind an ss uniform. I have spoken many times with my uncle , he was captured by Waffen ss in Italy he was treated with a certain amount of respect before being sent north to stalag whatever (must get his tags out of the drawer) he said he had worse treatment at repatriation by the Russians having to work in a Polish salt mine for some time ! At least we can openly discuss this subject !! nuff said
  16. Well , I contacted DVLA they have the truck as a Historic Vehicle, all numbers correspond and they openly said it has an 'exemption code' whatever that is, anyway they said 'just carry on going to your local post office that has the licensing capability' ,'it may be a software glitch'. oh and they did point out that it helps keep the post office people in business, fair play.
  17. Neither were the Normans...hence foot in mouth moment ???:undecided:
  18. just as I was about to have foot in mouth moment...about to ramble on about living in a village with a Norman Church and remains of a Roman fort...how old am I ???:red: As with many other History based groups some 'Hard line' factions get involved and turn the whole thing into a motivational tool to promote their beliefs and policies. It is almost like an infiltration of an 'old guard' I had a rather shocking discussion with a gentleman dressed as a ss guard, he liked the uniform he liked the cammaraderie and absolutely revelled in the joy of upsetting and racialy abusing visitors to his display/domain . this gent waxed lyrical as to the very fact that his group was growing by the day and although they did not happen to follow the swastika, they believed fascism would one day rise again ??:undecided: What was that programme warnings from history or something ?
  19. Well they didn't ask for my shoe size ! I even showed them a pic of the Reo, Oh well that's it till next year ! thanks for all your help and support !:-)
  20. Just got back from Post Office, rigourous checks of all forms including 112, scanned the bar code on renewal form ,no further questions and duly handed over tax disc...and then got asked why I didn't renew on line ?????>
  21. Hi Scott, from what I've heard today, there seems to be at least 30 booked in so far, also some rather large 'displays' to be set up, Phil Jarvis spoke to quite a few at Ponderosa last weekend so we wait and see Simon is on line he can give you an up to date list ? cheers John
  22. Reminder on the mat when I got home last night so will try that route ...you never know your luck in the dvla raffle:nut:
  23. Well it's a trip to the post office for me:blush: did as in post 4 got through to the next page all details correct clicked next, then got this application cancelled as no MOT in place etc, no question aout historic vehicle or exemption etc oh well:red:
  24. Thanks Chaps ! I will give it a go 'on-line' and report back !:red:
  25. Just had a bit of a panic, 'Log book' arrived no dramas, but no reminder has arrived as yet an the tax disc runs out at the end of July. I have been using the on-line facility for a few years to re-tax my import truck, just wondered if you could do the same with an exempt truck ?
