  1. As the question was asked which way around you use the Scammell scotches, we had a little task yesterday morning to winch a TD14 onto a low loader, this had seized running gear and with the friction of the track cleats the dozer still slid the Scammell and Tractor combination rather than them outweighing it ! I was all for dropping my rear spade lugs into the yard surface:laugh: but could see Adrian getting nervous !! about the damage. So out came the scotches , not used for over 18 years in anger, but as the photos show once they dug in are very efficient, I have never used them flat always spade down.
  2. Thanks for that info Tony, they look very much like those supplied on the Scammell's of the time, still pondering where they would of been attached to the chassis if used behind the steer axle? In racking out a container and this weekend moving spares about I came across both types of scotch's as discussed, photo's below, you will all see how the Holmes ones are wider and twice the metal gauge, with the serrated bottom edge, no wonder they did not advise use on macadam, but with the weight of a T on them you can see their potential.
  3. Were all good thanks mate, looking forward to the rally season, but have a load of toy shed tasks to do first :undecided:, keep posting your progress please.
  4. Coming together nicely Andy, good to see a true Scammell man not gone into hibernation with the cold !!
  5. Well done Adrian for motivating what can be a sleepy audience this time of year  In hibernation mode ! I am sure some of us southern boys can attend , if you don't pick a venue too far from us. Here's wishing that the DERV prices keep dropping till then !! LOL
  6. 16mpg is pretty good Richard turning all those props, I recall the old Leyland 45 it was in gave me about 18 to 20 to the gallon when freighted to 10 tonne , enjoying your thread
  7. Nice work John, showed your thread to my old pal Darren Briggs at the weekend who reminisced about changing the engine with you in the 1990's and being rear steersman from Borden to the hop farm, sounded quite a journey.
  8. Evening Pete, thanks for that , so I know now what should happen but there must be seizure or foul play in certain valves/ lines, even though we have tried to clean out the system. ( sounds more like an old Scammell than a trailer doesn't it !! ) so warmer evenings and a dose of enthusiasm req'd to move forward .
  9. Thanks John, your comments all being correct , getting back to my original question and perhaps expanding more, I am trying to understand the braking system on our trailer as installed but seized so unable for me to practically test. The third line looks capped off beneath the drawbar , this is the same on others I have studied ( so is that that auxiliary line ? ) that aside does the parking brake operate both axles or only one ? a Rubery Owen manual would be the answer!
  10. Thanks John, these old trailers only have two suzies though, emergency and service line, now wondering if they were made for blue line in mind but never installed at a time when most towing vehicles were only two line air ??
  11. We had our annual New Year road run for local HMV friends, as normal plenty of noise and another hole in the ozone over Sussex! Thanks to Adrian for hosting and putting on a superb supper for all after. My 12 year old has captured some of the day, here is the film trailer he has made, kids and technology!:cool2: Best wishes and good health to all for the NEW YEAR
  12. Here is Adrian Scott's M10 sounding well on our road run of 28/12, it was I am told rather cold in the turret .:drive:
  13. Paul, your enthusiasm and plans are a pleasure to read, good luck in your venture, I'm sure the local green machine team will be up for a jolly to your place when open.
  14. New meaning of a hat stand then Bernard !
  15. Cosrec, it is kiln dried sand that is the problem as this had a silica content, it's the silica that is harmful on the lungs.
  16. Thank you for your replies, I had thought £10k at a push as no kit on it, but the beauty of the forum is the ability to ask those for their opinion :thanx:
  17. Question please, I have been asked by a good friend to value a Pioneer, this has been very well restored some years ago and is complete and running ( drive it away ) , barn stored, used once a year or so, this is in civi guise not military but not cut about at all. Would the civi paint job devalue it ? How would you Pioneer men reading this value one like this ?
  18. After a long wait my licence was re issued, 10 weeks I think , what I did find out was that the eye sight test for LGV's is now more stringent than cars, and irrelevant of needing glasses to see the required distance, you have to be of a certain level of sight should your glasses fall off !! Luckily for me my level of eyesight was recorded by Dvla some 20+ years before the change and they accept that , but told me they have concerns over glasses today !! Contact lenses are not a problem ! Optician asked me if your glasses fell off could you see to drive, I replied jokingly I'm sure I could find the kerb, but if they fell off in the cafe car park I would struggle to find right motor :nut:,
  19. Question please, I purchased a Garwood winch earlier in the year with intent to put up behind the cab of a project in the offing!! A few friends have seen this and all at first thought was from a Diamond T, but on closer inspection whilst the drum is the same size the overall bed is longer but more distinctly the controls are reverse side to a 'T' , and of longer handle type. So what is this beast from? I have had a few suggest possible a Pacific, can anyone shed any light please.:-)
  20. Jack, I see a NOS one up on eBay currently, hope of help.
  21. David, if your not familiar with testing the system, probably best to disconnect the battery's and recharge, clean all the terminals and check for tightness, if the solenoid still then clicks , that will be the issue, a gentle tap while someone turns the key may free this, you can short the starter on the solenoid terminals to bypass the solenoid , but will need to be confident and quick to avoid sparklers before Nov 5th!
  22. Mark, don't bugger the transmission on the brake rollers ! I will be interested how they apply the 75% tare weight! with a bit of luck you will be waved through that bit if confusion reigns.
  23. LOL your quite right there Sean, what we like is you only heat the item with the inductor against which when near 100 psi tyres is more comforting than warning the rim as well.
  24. You can purchase these in the Uk, look on ebay they come under an induction heater, both Sykes and Snap-On make good quality ones. We have a pal locally who purchased one , I am forever borrowing it now ,a marvellous piece of kit, and much safer than the old gas torch!!
