  1. Just bumping this thread to remind anyone interested either viewing the sights and sounds or participating this coming Sunday..
  2. Andy wellies are the order of the day to get to all areas. I am afraid it rained again last night.
  3. Aha Tony, lucky he did not catch TVO itous then
  4. Great viewing, and a respectful tribute, or marketing ploy by Martin? there's a thought !!
  5. Well done John, looks a good un, that fifth wheel looks unusual ! , is there a winch lurking in front of the spare wheels ?
  6. A bit to close to home for some of us !! I hope it's well attended, the Scammell register is struggling these days with events being supported.
  7. Thanks all for engaging in my curiosity, so I called today probably at the worst time 1330 ! After the lengthy and frustrating dept option menu which I hung up on twice, as they led me round in circles:angry eventually spoke to a really switched on lady in the medical dept, it is here my renewal sits, awaiting it's turn to be looked at in the Que.. I asked the question outright on legality of HGV driving after the licence is expired and was told as long as the renewal is logged with them and paperwork in order continuation in driving is NOT an offence, there latest pamphlet ( as normal not read by me:readpaper:But the wife whilst I'm on the phone!! ) apparently explains this. And so the wait for a good few of us continues.
  8. So the dangerous question of where do we stand legally ( being able to drive ) when DVLA send out the applications and can't process them before licences expire ?
  9. Thanks Tony, that's reassurance mine is not lost but I will get on the phone tomorrow.
  10. Just out of interest to ask please, my HGV came up for renewal mid July, I promptly had a MOT myself at £130 !! and eye test for good measure, it's now been a good 5 weeks since I returned the information, any ideas how long they take before I pick up the phone to chase on Monday ?
  11. Mike that's all better news I hope, still in my mind wondering why the points arced so hard on the way back from W&P , unsure if that is fuel related :??? Perhaps on the fuel side to be doubly safe the tank wants draining and a Hoover out?
  12. Still makes me chuckle seeing again, a new meaning to tilt and slide recovery , I did this time think about the driver, he either had to run like the wind and escape from the controls or had wings!
  13. I love a comment that stirs up a thread !! I rolled with laughter especially as there were some farmers in the arena:rotfl: I go to W&P for two reasons to enjoy the company of friends and enjoy my hobby however I so choose, as many of us there served our time with the AWDC, I am sure that's where the love of pissing about in the mud comes from.
  14. Thanks Nigel for your thoughts, are you the same Nigel we met at W&P ? In plenty of discussion on this with retired heavy haulage users who worked these after demob, two have told me they had the early transfer boxes fail to full destruction when the slogging nut did what it did to us, probably why the later box was designed ! if your T is with the early transfer box with the cone cover as in my photo I would take a sneaky view to check it's tight, I did read this is a service item after 2000 miles I have wound the nut back on with some quality thread lock compound, so fingers crossed.
  15. Mike from my experience on these coils ,a 9v coil gives what it says whilst running , the ballast resistor part increases start voltage by 125% so back to 12v when starting then runs the ignition at 9 volt, it's over 20 years ago my Mini Coopers had these but I am sure this was to save points life etc .
  16. I am sure he had the blade down on the Chieftain which may answer your question!!
  17. Just to add to the discussion , in case this has any importance, even with swapping a new coil on the road the GMC only covered no more than 7 miles before failing again, the coil was nearly too hot to touch, which in such a short distance does not seem right, :banghead: .
  18. A short video the apprentice dept made for me at the weekend with the Explorer out, the old Cummins still pulls well!! . hope you enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrg8KMDd2a8&list=UUOEfuwe3MwNnOTM_f-18heA
  19. Well done Jim, looks very nice, waiting to see/hear the TD18 barking working hard though!
  20. Try Protec covers , I have one of theirs and it's excellent, they have just priced me a 32'x 8'6 x 12' cover, so they can make them large !!
  21. Many thanks Richard and cosrec, your link Richard was interesting I never knew the drum on the 981 was larger 500 ft of cable is impressive ! It needs a little more cuddling , diesel/ heat and patience to free of the levers then all will work as it should, I'll keep an eye out for a plate on the worm housing in due course.
  22. I thought it would be interesting to post a small problem we have to see if others have come across this with their Diamonds and in the two types of transfer box i have come across, to which in the manual i only seem to see one type! So last week whilst maneuvering in reverse the 980 decided to throw the main shaft forwards and punch the end out of the bearing cap !! thank goodness this did not happen on the road at speed. From investigation the bearing is held in on the outer race by the bearing cap and the inner race by a circular nut, that nut has no means of being withheld, not castellated nor a lock tab, but wound up tight, but not in the case of ours as the nut had come undone wound its way back to the bearing cap plate and with a little movement on the shaft cracked the cap plate off in the centre. Thinking we had another transfer box to replace the plate was a foolish thought at that has a different style plate and bearing set up as the photo attached shows. So we are having the plate repaired, and the nut will be reinstated with locktight, fingers crossed this will be OK then. Has anyone experienced a similar failure, or know of a safer way to hold in place a circular nut? Tony Graves is kindly sending me some further technical information, but i thought as the old forum stretches further than my knowledge of DT owners, there would be nothing lost in asking.
  23. Andy, that is a credit to you , well done excellent finish.
  24. Question to those in the know please, i recently bought a Garwood winch to graft onto the rear of a Scammell project i have in mind to undertake, but in review of the winch and comparing with that on the Diamond T 981 this is a larger unit, the code on the cover makes reference to 12Y4524, equally the operating handles are longer than on the 'T' . SO whats this beast come off then???
