  1. Mark, were those Dunlop trak grips she came with any good and are they still around?
  2. The Dingo is a Lynx, a Canadian Ford built Dingo lookalike but with conventional axles and the Cadillac is a Canadian GM C15TA.
  3. That's good Mark! Some nice video there, roll on next time.......
  4. Hi Ian, welcome to the hangar! I don't think RAF jeeps were blue in wartime but Ted will no doubt be along to confirm. Butler side and headlights turn up fairly regularly, though the blackout masks are harder to find but if you want to use the jeep and MOT it, you're probably better off without them. What do you fly? I last flew into Enstone about four years ago, must go back again!
  5. I can find a space for those staves Rob!
  6. Definately an obstacle galusion..... I have a Tiger 1 track link here, I can prove it! Oh and its Bovington....... Bovingdon is north of London and is where they filmed The War Lover and 633 Squadron when it used to have an airfield. Pedant mode off!
  7. I would imagine it uses a full flow. OMD stands for oil, mineral, detergent so if that is the original spec, it should be fine.
  8. It does if it's a detergent oil as this carries all the small particles around with it to keep the engine insides clean. No problem with a full flow filter but not so good with a bypass. I have no idea what CVRW uses though!
  9. Blimey, 16 years ago..... You all look so young!
  10. Gary, no problem with fitting them to a jeep, they are quite compact. As you can see, the bottom drops to allow fitting/replacing the generators. The original No8 Mk V had wires that connected to the terminals on top.
  11. British tanks were fitted with smoke generators. These used the standard No 8 generator converted to electric firing. Two were fitted in each box and fired by the driver. They were intended to lay a local screen to hind behind or retreat through and were fitted to the rear of the tank though I have seen pictures of them fitted to the front but this was not official. The same No 8 generator, as a Mk III or IV was fired from the 4" bomb thrower fitted to tank turrets, these pre-dated the 2" bomb thrower. This allowed laying smoke away from the vehicle. It is quite possible that Popski had some tank generators fitted to his jeep, they probably were not voltage sensitive and 6V would likely set them off. I have examples of the boxes and have made some repro generators for my Sherman. I can post pics tomorrow.
  12. Clive, in the gallery there are a couple of pictures of Winston presenting it to John Marchant so I assume he was the (very) worthy winner this year.
  13. Many helicopters, particularly older desigs such as this Hiller H-23 are not overendowed with power and on a hot day cannot lift off to any great height vertically. Indeed it is not a good idea to in case of engine failure, forward movement near to the ground gives translational lift and this gives a safety margin. However, to attempt it in a crowd shows poor (!) airmanship. If the facts are as presented here, I'm sure we will hear more of this.....
  14. Oh, I don't know Bob, those wheels look like new!
  15. Isn't that the truth! I think that has made an enormous difference.
  16. It's true in many ways that it was easier 20+ years ago but to restore may vehicle types now is much easier. When I started, there were very few dealers and no repro parts at all. Anyway, Bobs Loyd was easy, it still had paint on it......
  17. Without a test you can only use it unladen and towing an unladen trailer so 'fraid not! I think you may struggle to get it plated. I would get a 7.5 ton beavertail. Make sure it's a light one, universals all weigh over 3 tons empty.
  18. If you use the WOT to carry the carrier, it'll need testing and plating.
  19. I heard a rumour that you may or may not be within a few miles of a Sherman tomorrow..... Brmm brmm....
  20. Exactly my point! Those in it purely for the money soon move on.
  21. Have a great day Hanno! Will we see you at Beltring this year?
  22. To a degree, yes! I don't think that takes the fun out of it though, it can be quite amusing sometimes. The ideal that some people feel should exist, where all military vehicles should be cheap and easy to find soon goes out the window when they realise just how much time and effort and hence money goes into restoring them. You will be an expert at this! We, as enthusiasts have no more right to ownership of our toys than the rich collectors or indeed the murky men! Those who help each other are the real enthusiasts, as long as we outnumber the others, we'll be alright.
  23. ISTR it rained on Friday night........ I'll collect my winnings at Beltring.
