  2. Hi Folks, Stripping an MJ Chassis for shot blasting and the question of the chassis plate has cropped up. For those unsure, it is a fairly thick anodised alloy plate with the info stamped into it, which has then been bonded/stuck to the chassis. I haven't tried anything yet, unsure as to wheter its stuck with that heavy duty double-sided foam pad stuff or bonded with something else. Any experience with them? The plates in the cab have come off with the help of a hot air gun, they were only lightly glued/attached. Alec.

  4. Good shout Richard, I've seen them on fire engines to drive the water pump at the rear but they appear to be a bit thin on the ground. No reason why it couldn't have a small prop and hard-mount the pump to the chassis rail.. I'll try the usual suspects for one.... Thanks, Alec.

  8. Hi Folks, I have a late AWD/Bedford MJ with the Perkins Phaser and Turner 5-speed box. Looking to attach a PTO and hydraulic pump for a HIAB. Now then, Turner boxes look like they are lying on their sides, therefore the plates I would normally assume are for a PTO are on the top/bottom of the box. The bottom one has the drain plug for the box and installing a PTO there would interfere with the front prop. So, does anyone have a photo of the PTO/Pump arrangement on this style of box? Fitted on top it looks as if the pump may just sit flush with the top of the chassis rails. How about the type which goes into the transfer box? A-la fire engine pump, any photos? Bolt pattern looks similar to the pumps fitted to K,M&O Type gearboxes, maybe TKs as well. Anyone able to confirm or deny? :-D Any assistance gratefully received, especially photos :-D My manuals dont cover the Turner Box. Alec.

  11. Some have a hydraulic pump but most, like ours have a piston pump. pulling that handle back and forth, waggling at full extension can be fun.... Alec.
  12. I have TS1016 / TS1017 / TS1018 and TS1277, but they're perfect bound so I don't see how they could be copied easily. - I've got these, thanks. You know there is more than one type of MJ? - I do indeed, I have the second-last AWD permutation (before they went TL Cab), a full technical archive is, however, mutually beneficial to owners/restorers of all variants. Have you asked VM about copyright? - VM? I am also in the middle of a FOI request for some missing documentation - response due in a couple of weeks now. Alec.

  19. I subscribe to the boiling burnt oil poured down the plugholes technique, worked for me a couple of times. Heat a pail of it over a primus stove and gently gently aiming the plughole! Do so at your own risk etc. Alec.

  22. What stage are you at? If its getting the pcbs out then knobs off with tiny hex grub screws and then retaining nuts off the volume/selector spindles and out the guts come! I don't have the data at hand just now, some of the circuit diagrams etc are still restricted info but it is a brutally simple system to fault-find! Easy hits to check are the handset connections (push-fit onto terminal posts), OP transistors on the main board, 741 op-amp on amp board and the Chokes on the screw terminal board (Board F if memory serves me). Whats it doing/not doing? Alec.
  23. Hi, Did you fully torque or just nip up the outside row of 4 head bolts? Its good practice these days to use composite gaskets and leave the outer row of bolts nipped up (or out altogether) as they can lead to early warping of the heads. Remember to use the best quality coolant/corrosion inhibitor you can get your paws on and change the oil every 3k miles, it'll last for years Alec
  24. I live out of my Marshall Ambulance at shows, but I have a CVRT Side-Tent attached as a lean-to. I don't use it for sleeping in (well, not currently but I have in the past), I use it as a place to stick the odd chair/extra bits n bobs/stuff I've bought and the emergency night-time bucket!! I use a fairly unobtrusive length of 1/2" wide awning rail along the side to slip it in, not that noticeable... If I'm out in the wilds somewhere I don't usually bother, I just fire everything underneath!! Alec.
