  1. Shots at Longues Battery on the Sunday, including a couple at the Living History Camp http://news.webshots.com/album/573178291nHICOk
  2. Great shots Rob, a right good weekend I reckon from what i see - and what a birthday pressy! I remember seeing two Austers (dont their age or anything) years ago at a Finningley air display. It wasn't the best of weather for the rest of the display, but it did mean that with the correct angle to the wind and everything set as it should these two aircraft more or less hovered ofr quite some time. So yes an excellent air observation platform. Duncan
  3. These were taken Sunday afternoon mainly during the vehicle parade organised by, I am told, the local MV club. Plus a few additional shots of veterans who were around, some poseurs and the (good)pipe band. I have to say I am disappointed that the parade through a town liberated by the British was mainly of US vehicles with US occupants.. Nothing against them, but I would have thought for such an important occasion the effort could have been made to be, as I see it, more appropriate/relevant. Just a bit more of re-writing of history. It did seem that some of the French had a problem identifying with the British side of things. No problem being a Yank, loadsa problems being British. But then again am I really surprised? http://community.webshots.com/album/573086055vzPdEQ?start=0
  4. Do you know which part of the lake/surrounding area the flying display centres on? I've seen the dates posted but no indication of top/bottom end etc. Any info? cheers
  5. Some years back a pal of mine didn't have the above info (pre internet days) and was restoring what he found out had been a Police patrol car. He wrote to the local force asking for advice on the above point, and regarding the fitting of a bell or siren. The gist of the reply was that if fitting, or using, such items was done with intent to deceive then he would get done. Where it was obvious that the vehicle was an old one then the Force didn't consider that it would be an issue as it was obvious to anyone that the vehicle was not a current in service item; and when he had finished the restoration could they bring along a modern patrol car and have a photo shoot alongside it? Which they did and he doesn't have any problems with the local law at all. They all know the vehicle and are more interested in finding out about it than giving him any grief. Obviously this may not apply to any other area of the country.
  6. A lot will depend upon what period you are repainting it to. Ted Angus might be worth a PM as he has a mine of info in the form of original AMO's regarding paint schemes for most periods.
  7. Away from the circus - http://community.webshots.com/album/573002966NOrvAf
  8. I do have some more photos of the Dukw's but they are all from the same point, however taken with a different camera. Not had chance to check them yet so there may be some better shots - will post eventually!
  9. Gold beach camp http://news.webshots.com/album/572947848Ccxpmj Nice bike, shame about ..... (edit - more pics of skirmish added)
  10. Trying again with these as a thread I posted yesterday seem to have vanished or been moved. (Mods. -any ideas?). Anyhow a few tasters here but the full sets will be on the links, added to as time allows. http://community.webshots.com/album/572967797eQBsjn http://community.webshots.com/album/572966724CyrSAK more pics added to next folder http://news.webshots.com/album/572971471pDAWYW?start=0
  11. I take it you have viewed the Forum Austin Gallery. Seems to be quite a few photos in there, and some owners.
  12. As the title says anyone know a source for these, diff lamps/trailer connectors, and any idea of asking prices? Cheers.
  13. This seems as good a place to put this as any- how about this from a French Government spokesman today in response to the suggested snub of the Queen attending the forthcoming commemorations- A spokesman for the French government, Luc Chatel, said France had invited Britain to attend the ceremony and that it was up to Brown's government to decide who was to represent it. "The Queen of England, as British head of state, is naturally welcome," he said, briefing reporters after a French cabinet meeting. "It's not up to France to decide who will represent Britain. "Our contacts on this ceremony were members of the British government who wanted to take part in a ceremony which was from the start Franco-American," he said. "June 6, 2009 is primarily a Franco-American ceremony," Chatel added, noting that the US president traditionally came to Normandy in his first year of office. So now we have even the French as well as the Americans erasing from history the contribution of British and Canadian forces on the 6th June 1944. Jeez!! We should have left them to continue as a nation of collaborators and serfs.
  14. Its ok - forget it, now I've posted it looks like I've found a supplier.
  15. Anyone know of any dealers (or individuals) who sell the 9 inch feather edge type blades as fitted to WW2 Brit stuff? I'm obviously looking in the wrong places as I've had no luck. Thanks for any input.
  16. I suspect you are suggesting that our top rank Public Schools do not produce the kind of chap who is competent with a map, compass, radio and whose bright ideas are somewhat lacking? Rank insubordination I say. Take him out and shoot him. . . . . (Assuming Rupert can find the weapon, the ammunition, the right hole to put it in, the right hole to send it out through etc etc etc)
  17. Thanks fellas. A guy is asking £245 +vat for a NOS, so there isnt much in it. I'll probably get a spare as well
  18. Coming down the M1 yesterday I caught up with and overtook a pickup, one of the big Japanese type things. Painted boldly across the back was the company name 'A - Z Maps', or something to that effect. As I passed him what did I see on his dashboard - yeh, a satnav! So much confidence in their own products :-D
  19. If it were me and I wanted to get to Normandy this Friday I would fit something which I knew was going to work, rather than something which is known to maybe be faulty.
  20. Anyone had a brake master cylinder machined and sleeved to give it a new lease of life? Any recommendations regarding quality, economy, turnaround time etc? (Lockheed/Bedford MW) cheers Duncan
  21. Dont know if this is close enough to suit you but Pennine Lubricants in Sheffield stock SAE140 and SAE30 'Heritage' motor oil for the engine. I'm currently using both in my MW. I got 5 litres of each for not much more than Morris charge for 5litres of their 30.
  22. Shots from Sunday, only the minimum of sifting done. decide for yourself the good'uns and bad 'uns http://community.webshots.com/album/571932143imymUN
  23.:rofl::rofl: That sounds like my kind of trick!
