  1. Yes I heard that too, though not sure about the 50 - more on the way I think...! I seen them a few years ago and had a go at counting them, I am sure it was nearer 60 but it was a guestimate. Iain
  2. " I wonder where it has been these last few years ?"In a shed with at least 50 others, if I remember correctly !Iain
  3. The MVT are putting it down as 1973 which is fair enough, as long as I get free tax I'm happy enough. Just need to sort out the registration :red:
  4. Phew ! I'm not alone. I have to agree with Ebay, I have found many parts and manuals I never thought I would ever get. But you have to keep an open eye and shop around, it's too easy to get carried away and pay over the odds. For information this community just about covers everything and it's usualy a pleasant experience. I have to make do with ships tea until Wednesday as I am out at Schiehalion/Fionaven just now then it's back to the Tarves area. Iain
  5. Is it an age thing ? I really have little time for social media and do not want to be part of Facetwitting and all the other stuff. Maybe I am just an anti-social git, I hope not. It is such a shame when we are given links to Facetwitter etc, as I, like others, love looking at pics and stuff. Please think of us poor sods who just make it as far as HMVF (which is good enough I say !). Or is it just me.:red: Time for cup of tea. Iain
  6. Thanks David I am looking to put it on the road (short trips only of course :nut:) and 1973 is good enough now for free tax. I just have to work out what it should be registered as. :undecided: Iain
  7. I came across them when I was doing the tank driving/corporate entertainment, I used a company from Fife called Activate Scotland run by(former) Marines. They were very good and it was a good fit, real world tactics and training, with armour. We would do ambushes etc. Some of these guys were just of the hills of Afganistan with beards etc and knew their stuff. Very realistic and good fun. They used Real Action Marker M4 carbines as used by military etc for training. Iain
  8. The census number puts it at 1973, I thought they were made earlier, does anyone have any information or thoughts ? Many thanks Iain
  9. Something to do with radio/radar, maybe screening ? Iain
  10. Does anyone have access to records or know when my Eager Beaver was built ? It is serial number 660, army reg. 04FZ69 ! Many thanks
  11. Is it the internals of some sort of muffler, maybe engine exhaust ? Iain
  12. Bill For the Mk3 recovery, the manual says top speed = 48 1/2 mph and fuel consuption = 7.8 mpg. I don't expect my speedo to be hugely accurate but just under 50mph is do-able but under 40 mph reduces the blood pressure on narrow roads (fat tyres and short wheelbase). I would guess on average just over 6mpg, hard to say unless you do a lot of miles. Iain
  13. They did ask where the Chevy was made (Chevrolet T & B Canada) and then said they could only cover British vehicles. The impression I got was that they would only cover vehicles of British manufacture. This may or may not have come to light as I had let the cover laps for a couple of months due to getting confused, maybe if it had been continuous cover I might have been OK. But then I am a typical "loyal" customer and always took the convenient way and continued with F-J each year without shopping around, not the best way ! Iain
  14. I have just contacted Footman James to re-new my vehicle insurance to be told that they can no longer cover non-British makes ! :undecided: So after 10 years or so I have moved to Adrian Flux. Has anyone else come across this ? Iain
  15. Hi Jamie Its called a "hausing Mecanical drive M1008 M1009 CUCV p/n 14020861" on the site ! I won't get to see it for about three weeks but hopefully it will do the job OK. I find it surprising that Chevrolet would produce these in the many thousands with such a weakness. Maybe a machined and much stonger unit is the long term fix ! Iain
  16. I just checked us-army-military-shop and he now has a used one in stock, it looks OK so I think I'll give it a go. It would be nice to have the Chevy back on the road again.Iain
  17. Hi JamieI am after the cast adaptor that goes between the main g,box and the transfer box and acts as the g, box rear mount. They have the weight of the transfer box hanging on them and can crack around the circumference. I have dealt with us-army and he is OK but I have not asked about the adaptor yet. I just looked up Rockauto and they seem good but they don't list this part. I have tried quite a few other places such as Cheverolet (no longer available). If all else fails I might look to get one machined. It's always my intention to get around the local shows but I work at sea for a month at a time and I am usualy in the wrong place.I always wanted a M1009 and had a plan to use Tavern components to "upgrade" one. Might still do that one day if I can.I won't let go of the pick up though, I just love it!Iain
  18. I have a M1008, had it about 8 years now. It came from the special ops squadron at Mildenhall, I have the maintenance records. I am in the (long term) process of "doing it up" and have had the TM400 overhauled but the adaptor mount for the main to transfer box has the typical crack around it. I am trying to get it welded but have no faith in a repair but cannot find a new one. So I am on the lookout for a new or good used adaptor mount. Iain
  19. I seem to remember (maybe not very well) some discussion way back about the rated carrying capacity of the 10-Ton light recovery trailer. I was reading through some of the bumf I have on these and found a mod instruction to modify the lashing chain anchorage points and strenghthen the lashing assemblies to allow safe carriage of 430 series vehicles up to a gross weight of 15.6 tons. Ref. U297/5 Mod instr No 6, Army Modification code K 00213. Trailer code: 3430.0735 and 3430.0215 for Brockhouse and Rubery Owen. There is no restriction mentioned when used with these loads so does that mean a "10-Tonn" trailer could actualy carry over 15 tons ???? Confused. Iain
  20. Try this http://www.shiply.com/ Iain
