  1. Some pics (Not the best quality I'm afraid) of the engine, an ISUZU 4BD1 3.9 mated to a LT95A. Very nice!
  2. Some pics taken in Brisbane on the way to the shipping agent.
  3. That's a good site with some interesting photos. The original military reg no was 51 726, I haven't spotted it anywhere yet. If you look on the Australian Frontline Machinery website it has all the manuals for just about every bit of kit sold by the Australian military, including of course the Perenties. Iain
  4. Yes, it's one of the up-grade versions. Still got all the kit including the third seat etc.
  5. I drove it home from Milton Keynes via Greatyarmouth, Teebay and Glasgow, quite a first drive. I did overnight in Tebay.. About 900km I think. Very happy with it, road noise like the series landy's in the mob in my time but I had ear plugs. It's very clean and was rebuilt and upgraded in 2008 by Tenix, there are things to do of course but nothing pressing. ( except changing the coolant for anti freeze). Its early days but so far all good! Iain
  6. After about 5 months my new toy has arrived from Australia! I am really pleased with the condition with 28000km on the clock backed up by the service record that I also have. Now something will have to go... More pics etc later. Iain
  7. Welcome Simon! I am sure you will find help here and pictures are always appreciated! Good luck with it. Iain
  8. Hi An introduction may help, and where in the world you are. cheers Iain
  9. Nothing wrong with Wheeler Dealers especially with Edd China, sadly changed and went downhill with the move to USA. Evans waterless coolant, thought of using it myself but have looked into it and there are some reported negatives and varied opinions. Most worrying is that it is flammable and banned for use in racing. Not sure if this is true though. Would also love to hear from anyone with experience of it. Iain
  10. On Milweb under parts and accessories , Arthur Barraclough, breaking 432 and 434!
  11. Most if not all operational airfields in my time had a VASF ( visiting aircraft servicing flight) and with the large number and grouping of airfields during the war many aircraft diverted for a multitude of reasons. I see good reason to have a facility and possibly a dedicated team to quickly guide visiting aircraft unfamiliar with the base. Just a thought! Iain
  12. I wrote to DFT who passed my enquiry to DVSA and have received a reply from a technical officer as follows; Good afternoon, "These vehicles do require an MOT if they are to be used on the highway. You will need to submit a VTG1 first test application so that we can create the technical record. We are aware that some information may no longer be available like the type approval requirements. We do have information on some of these vehicles or similar that we can cross reference. Once the tech record has been created you will get a notification that the vehicle can now be tested. Once you have received that you will then be able to book it in to a ATF close to you. They will be tested to age related requirements. You can use the inspection manual for compliance of the vehicle you have. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/hgv-inspection-manual Regards Philip Harrison Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer. Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency | Ellipse, Padley Road, Swansea, SA1 8AN Phone: 01792454206, Fax 01792 45438" That's it in a nutshell so that is what I shall do, not just now as I am busy with other things but in a couple of months. I'll let you know how it goes..... Cheers Iain
  13. Thanks Mike In time I am sure things will settle down and we will all know where we stand and what to do, including testers. This should have been an easy and unambiguous process from the start but I'll get onto DfT and push for answers. Might as well be hopefull.... Cheers Iain
  14. Thanks Mike, I hear what you say and suppose it's really a question for DfT. I was hoping to hear from someone who had done this for a similar vehicle. The MVT may be able to help with this but I'll check with DfT first. I am not convinced yet that I do need an MOT as the discussion documents leading up to the changes mentioned targeting vehicles "used commercially". This is question for the DfT. If I do need to test the Milly that would be fine with me as long as it is sympathetic to the age and use and does not include plating. I have had a look at the latest testing guidelines and there is no accommodation for historic vehicles that I can find. Cheers Iain
  15. No, I hadn't thought but I'll get in touch with them and the MVT. Surely I'm not the only one in this pickle? cheers Iain
  16. Hi Nick, My mistake it was DVSA (the national helpline number given for the Aberdeen testing station) that I contacted and in the end they did not know what to do! As said the end of exemption was meant to be for vehicles used commercially not historic vehicles, but there is no provision anywhere and to go through plating and testing to commercial standards is a no go making these vehicles worthless. Iain
  17. The testing of previously exempt LGVs was for vehicles used commercially, or so I have read, but there is no provision on the form V112G for vehicles like mine. The testing guidelines do not have any provision for historic vehicles and a prerequisite to testing is a plating cert! Where does that leave me, DVLA have no idea..... Confused and p*%$d off! Cheers Iain
  18. Try on here, www.milweb.net See under "Deactivated weapons" and "Replica & Blank firing". There has been some discussion on this forum in the past on the merits of various replicas. Cheers Iain
  19. I was led to believe that removal of exemptions was for vehicles "used commercially" not for private or historic. The appropriate licence is not a problem, but the testing guidelines certainly are! Many thanks Iain
  20. Has anyone any experience with the new MOT regs for post 1960 LGVs? The Milly is due taxing and on checking the V112G it is no longer relevant to any exemption on there, no surprise.. I checked on the latest MOT requirements and plating is a prerequisite also I could not see any reference to testing historic vehicles. I called DVLA and they mentioned the rolling 30 exemption for LGVs, on further questioning this was forgotten. In the end they had no idea what to do. What a load of ....... Anyone with any insight, I'm confused and fed up with the whole process. Beer required! Cheers Iain
  21. Armageddon also fits well and I think is more British :-) Good luck with the project!
  22. I thought there was a gentle request to post an introduction before other posts could be lodged. I have seen similar on other forums to screen out the opportunist scammers and spammers. It is nice to have an idea who folk are and where they come from. The administrators seem to be well on the ball as we don't seem to be easily targeted. With the ongoing controversy regarding social media sites and the misuse of personal data, it's good to know! Iain
  23. Have we dropped the need for introductions before posting? I may be missing something but I think the forum is loosing something without the apparent little bit of vetting of members. As I said I may be missing something.... Iain
  24. When I ran a Tank Driving company Towergate were the only ones offering insurance. It was cover for driving various vehicles and not to give rides as you are planning. It was VERY expensive and helped towards the ultimate failure. It should be cheaper for you. Also try NFU, lots of farms diversifying etc. Good luck with it ! Iain
  25. I'm not a fan of hers, less so as time goes by but it is her job. Carwyn Jones will talk about Wales, Arleen Foster will talk about Northern Ireland. Theresa May is PM of the UK. I suppose the super mayors are the first incarnation of the much needed devolved rule in England. All meant to move some of the riches etc away from London. Lets not get anti Scottish, leave politics etc out! Back to the real subject. Again where will the old car market be in years to come. Never mind electric and hybrid, modern cars are not home mechanic friendly. Iain
