  1. Steve, What do I think? I think they were quickly recycled into hard targets or scrap metal, no need to keep them after the tanks have been converted permanently. Thats is, unless someone had thought of setting up a spare parts pool for an overhaul programme for battle damaged tanks. Hanno
  2. Excellent, thanks. I thought my library contained enough books by now, but information on trailers is lacking. Found this site http://www.2ndarmored.be/Naamloos3.html with a listing of trailers. This 8-ton trailer is on there too: http://www.2ndarmored.be/voertuigen/TRAILER/TRAILER%20FULL%20FLAT%20BED%208%20TON.html H.
  3. Of US wartime origin, but what else can be told about this trailer? Thanks! Hanno
  4. Quote: "Side view of 8-ton trailer which often carries small tractor. Location: US. Date taken: 1942" Source: http://images.google.com/hosted/life/l?q=&imgurl=a92c29c037641122 Who can tell more about this 8-ton trailer, like: - Who built it? - What was it's official designation? - What was it's purpose? - What type of tractor truck was used to pul it? - Could it be used as a semi-trailer? Etc, etc. Who has more pictures of this type of trailer? Thanks, Hanno

  8. How about this one? The Dutch Army Depot painted a Leopard 2 orange when the national footbal team was playing . . . "proud of our boys" it says on the side. What a way to spend taxpayers money when we are at war! H.
  9. The Irish Army had FJ45 Land Cruisers. The Dutch Army nearly bought Land Cruisers in the 1970s. They were tested as the best 4x4 available, but the Japanese would not haggle. As it happened, Land Rover's were looking for a deal and thus we bought those. . . In other words, the FJ40 series were used by the military, so go ahead and get it and then google! Or sell it for good money to a collector in the States. . . - Hanno
  10. Which is why this one is marked "M3 APC"? http://picasaweb.google.com/patilraosaheb/NagarTankMuseum#5350059059429423826 That Churchill ARV is a nice find as well: http://picasaweb.google.com/patilraosaheb/NagarTankMuseum#5350059810557846194 H.
  11. Found it here? Shermans into ploughshares (mapleleafup.nl) (formerly at http://web.inter.nl.net/users/spoelstra/g104/ploughshare.htm) If so, please list the URL of the source page. Thanks, Hanno Sherman Register - Main Page (mapleleafup.nl)

  13. Hi Simon, Have not yet seen it in the metal, so to speak. The owner is looking for all sort of information about this body type as it needs kitting out. Who can help? Thanks, Hanno
  14. Given the interest in WW1 vehicles on this forum, I thought it would be interesting to post this ad from the French Gazoline magazine (http://www.gazoline.net). I scanned it from the July issue of this magazine, so not sure if it is still for sale. If anything, it shows what is still hiding in barns! HTH, Hanno
  15. What about the Berlin Brigade camouflage scheme?
  16. Speaking of engine swaps, what about a LR 109 with Rover V8 4.6-litre (235 bhp) or 5-litre (280 bhp) engine? Bell Aurens in Germany offers their LR "offroadster" with a choice of engines, up to a 27-litre supercharged Rolls Royce V12 engine. . . achtung, achtung, Spitfire!! Regardless of the engine choice, I really like the bodywork they package it in! See and hear more at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh7P3FJXfaw Hanno
  17. Hi Steve, No idea, all I ever saw was the picture in ATB magazine. Hanno
  18. I think I still have the Ferret. But at one point in time I ditched the wheels, cut out the hull bottom and fitted it onto a RC tracked chassis. . . . H.
  19. Here are a couple CMP based ones: And a Morris-Commercial C4: All surviving in the Netherlands! HTH, Hanno
  20. I think Richard is correct. I visited once in 1993 and by then this Ram Kangaroo was the only tank on the premises. H.
  21. Hi Adrian, Our postings crossed. The second one went from the UK dealer/collector to a Dutch dealer/collector to a Belgium dealer/collector, who traded it to the Canadian War Museum. This one is also awaiting restoration. See my web page http://web.inter.nl.net/users/spoelstra/g104/kangaroo.htm for a picture (second from the top) while it was still on the range. Hanno
  22. Peter, I do not know about the Matilda, but there was a Ram Kangaroo on that range as well. I understand the tanks were standing behind a rifle range. The story goes they were removed by a private person after he persuaded the MoD those tanks presented a danger as they attracted boys like you and there was a risk of people getting hurt if they military were using the rifle range. The Ram Kangaroo was later sold to a collector in the UK. So that one at least is preserved, though it is awaiting restoration. Hanno
  23. When I went to collect the Ram Kangaroo for Mill, I remember one of the workshop staff telling me that way back (probably in the 1950s) the museum was offered complete and running Ram Kangaroos which were then struck off charge. They did not accept the offer. But I feel one cannot blame them. There is always a point in time when things seem to be abundant, and no-one feels the need to save all that old equipment. The same happened to overhauled war-reserve stock Centurion ARVs in the 90s, they were driven onto the ranges to be shot up (same source). Hanno
  24. Ed, Good call saving it from the scrap man! Here are some pictures of what seems an identical one - including the drawbar - which was for sale in the Netherlands a few years ago. It is a British built trailer. Click on the thumbnails to see larger pictures. HTH, Hanno
  25. Hi Steve, Or it could be to address the American critisism about converting battle tanks into specialised vehicles? As you know the Americans were not very fond of Hobart's funnies, so converting older tanks like the Ram and M3 was a good idea. Not sure why this was not carried through. Basically this is what the Netherlands Navy did to four derelict Leopard 1's. The Netherlands Marines operate frequently with the British Marines, and when the RNLN was building a new dock landing ship it was decided to copy the Centurion BARV. This conversion was carried in-house by the Naval Yard. Funny thing is that this Leopard BARV was again copied for the British Marines by Hägglunds, probably at a much higher cost. Hanno
