  1. There is a site just outside bristol that had lots of army surplus just after the war and you can find odd jeep bits still lying around on the floor. and there are other ww2 military vehicles there just rotting into the groung. Ie black mans chev, 12 cab chev, henschel wrecker, american radar trailer lots of gmc bodys axles and engines etc etc etc.
  2. I was talking to an old chap on thursday and he used to drive bulldozers and draglines in the army. He has told me that he actually pushed and drove lots of military vehicles including tanks into huge pits he had and his crew had dug just after the war. The site of which is an ex american camp near frome somerset. He is coming with me soon to show me exactly where it was. The ground looks very disturbed where he has described so heres hoping! I will keep you all informed.................
  3. There is a non armoured petrol (I think)simplex sitting in a hedge in pickwick lane corsham it used to be the site of the Bath stone quarry museum. A Friend of mine has one of the Ruston hornsby 4wdm,s that was used in the construction of the central ammunition depots at corsham it is restored and running. There are also two ruston4wdm,s still in one of the cads at corsham one is complete the other is partially dismantled. Lots of military two foot gauge equipment and track is still in existence around corsham and surrounding areas. Another mate had the remains of the most modern piggery railway from ww2 It was featured on an esso film and was used to take the swill from the farm yard across the fields to a massive piggery complex nearly half a mile away this used to be at midford. Near shepton mallet there is a wartime excavator and 2ft gauge railway just rotting away in a wood. Being a rustoholic its nice to find all this old railway equipment and try and get it preserved.
  4. I hope the diamond is pushing the explorer home Ha ha:D
  5. The two axles at the back are very very early cmp axles they look exactly the same as I had fitted in my 1941 canadian chevrolet field artillery tractor number 11 cab
  6. I think you should build another !pew! and put it by your garage doors so when friends come to see you they can sit there and worship the shrine of your iron gods. you are doing a beautiful job, I try to look every day to see how you are progressing. It will be wonderful to see her out and about are you booked into honiton hill rally this year?
  7. According to an old chap in warmley bristol there are reputedly 2 shermans and trailers buried under the ex brains meat factory high level car park they were parked there and then just covered over when the carpark was built he also said of a drift mine in the vicinity of siston common that had a lot of vehicles pushed in and then the entrance was buldozed over how true it is i do not know but there was a vehicle repair shop on the old lex tillotson site in kingswood and reputedly when they were building the new houses there they hit some armour with a digger but covered it up as they didnt want to have to stop building. also tennis court road was a military camp im ww2 so anything is possible.

  11. Fantastic I have restored eight haflingers over the years and trialed one very successfully a brilliant little piece of machinery. have you got any history? three of the ones i restored were used by royal navy commando as helicopter tugs....
  12. Thats a lovely toy! just a thought if you wanted the wheels to look less land rover like a set of morris ld van rims also fitted to some milk floats will fit. Hope this is of some interest.:-D
  13. my pig axles got blown up by the previous owner pulling awy in first gear and not knocking it out of four wheel drive when going in to scond hence it all wound up and went bang after about three miles and left him with a stuck pig in bristol in the rush hour o what fun.... Also you have the blinds that pull down over the vision slots pull them down and see if there is any writing on them on mine it has writing but i would not put on here what it said about be?%^7st. Also on the engine there may be a small round pot with a screw on lid if there is take the lid off and you may find the rebuild data in there. Hope this helps >>>>
  14. If you are looking for pig parts try wiltshire landrovers at snarlton lane melksham he had a few pigs there that he was breaking the chap you want to speak to is neil. I bought two axles off him for my pig about four years ago he had three or for there if i remember rightly. 01225 700975 is the number i have for him.
  15. In the late eighties early nineties the new age travellers on the a46 near stroud had a uranus as I went and looked at it and also a mk1 stalwart they had there I last saw it on a site near longwell green it had either a caravan or home built living on the back. dont know what happened to it after that I do remember that it was painted fire engine red and they were having engine troubles with it.
  16. I have been following this restoration since i found it on hmvf and have looked as often as i could but due to a horrendous accident at work that left me in intensive care for 5 days i obviously didnt see the computer. I have been cheered up no end today seeing the videos on you tube you have done an absolutely magnificent job on this truck. i wish i had finished my albion !!!!! any way thankyou again for cheering me up no end and keep up the fantastic work i hope to see many more of your restorations.....
  17. Im impressed by your railway layout is it very extensive?
  18. Did you get round to finishing this truck?
  19. Not sure what era the film was meant to be. But on ice cold in alex there are bedford rls and a landrover or two i cannot ever recal seeing a bedford rl in the desert in world war two let alone a landrover. It drives my wife mad when we are watching films and you get world war two footage with a reo and a ferret for instance. What is wrong with these film companys? there are enough preserved vehicles of all world wars to get these films right.
  20. Nice to see all these tanks but not one mention of the one at slapton sands. Reputedly there are more sunk in the bay there as well ..........
  21. sorry i do have other pictures but cannot find them at present but if i do i will load them on. I have been told that a chap called john keedwell now owns it which is nice to hear that it is still about and not been scrapped......
  22. the radiator came from st austell in cornwall and looked like the original so i fitted it the engine was a large sidevalve of unknown make with a three speed gearbox not the original i made a lot of enquires about engines etc and there were some originals that could be bought in australia but the cost of them and the shipping was very prohibitive i would of needed to remortgage my house.......... but i hope that it is still about and not gone to china.
  23. This is an 1915 albion W O S truck that i found that had been converted to a trailer and i saved it from the cutting torch with minutes to spare. I would love to know where it is now and if it ever got finished as i sold it on due to other commitments. Sorry the picture is not very good. I also know of a very early morris chassis converted to a trailer and that one has the diff in it which i understand is very rare.
