  1. Just watched the foray into Russia. I know its entertainment and done "tongue in cheek" but he did cross the line a couple of time notably in the restaurant. If looks could kill that waitress would have brought his career to a halt 😊😊 Cracked up at the reaction to the UAZ 452 😊😊
  2. What happens when Brexit competes and they have to run the gamut of French customs?? Assuming they don't get impounded and destroyed due to the French weapons restrictions, by the time the paperwork is sorted the RusFed Army will be sitting outside the port waiting :-D :-D
  3. Cheers guys I would not have put it past VOSA to try and enforce modern regs on classics but if they had I would have expected a substantial out-cry from the FBHVC. Hence the confusion. On the topic of the LED's themselves - this is currently a favoured topic in Landrover circles and for sidelights and stop/tail it seems a popular upgrade. For indicators I gather the relay needs changing to suit them as the OEM one's do not work with LED's and further work (control box & relay?) is required to fit LED headlamps.
  4. Slightly confused here. (yeah, yeah - easily done I know..... :-)) The requirement is to maintain the vehicle in a roadworthy condition - i.e. for this topic all the lights work as intended which for a 1950's vehicle basically means when you turn the light switch on all the lights light up. For a 1950's/1960's vehicle at least "E" codes did not exist so provided when you take your vehicle out all the lights work in the designated manner and colour where is the problem in swapping LED bulbs - E or non-E marked for incandescents?? After all - nothing else on them is likely to be "E" marked either - brake pads/shoes, belts, filters, switches, tyres etc. I can understand the stipulation for vehicles to use "E" marked components for a vehicle either built or still in production when these E marks came into being but how can even VOSA stipulate the use of such components on vehicles that ceased production before the marking was introduced. If the law stated historic vehicles had to use E marked components then surely virtually every historic vehicle would be off the road!
  5. Andy Long who does a lot of the Essex MVT moves offers a great service. He moved my OT-90 for me a few times and brought the Militant back from East Surrey to just outside Braintree in Essex. I'll PM you his phone numbers.
  6. Only issue here when watching is the wifes reaction to Bruces wheeling and dealing. Every time he "haggles" on purchases she freaks over the amount he knocks off. Telling her its just business never works so now wherever possible I record the show and watch whilst she is out.
  7. Some of us skip the shooting up part and just go straight to the driving an OT-90 straight through one of them
  8. Good news - the new valve for the air brakes arrived today!! If the weather is OK then hopefully I can have a go at fitting it next weekend. I say hopefully because looking at it today - there are more sealing plugs than I have hose connections!! But the valve does look to be the same if you compare the photos below. So I am hoping the existing one has some blanking units in it. This is the new valve: [ And this is the old one on the vehicle now: Finger crossed all will be well. :-)
  9. Got mine from Chestnut Registrations too - they also supply the plates without silver borders as the MoD plates were.
  10. I wish that were the case here - all mine are younger than me - including the Militant!! :-) :-)
  11. Info is here: https://warandpeacerevival.com/military-vehicles/ Basically its £35 for a vehicle +2 adults and 2 children. And another £30 if you have a support vehicle other than the essential ones like low-loaders. So two vehicle with 4 adults will cost you £70. It has to be noted that the response times from the new organisers are indeed poor compared to Rex's team. I wound up selling my OT-90 because W&PR was the only show it ever got to and I spent 6 months trying to get an answer on whether they would honour Rex's deal on shared transport costs. They finally replied the month after I sold it.
  12. If its petrol there is the old stand-by of removing the rotor arm. If it's possible to do so - fit a concealed battery isolator so that even if they bring a rotor arm with them they will (a) need to find the isolator and (b) have the key that fits it. Again if possible - put the vehicle on axle stands and put the wheels and the nuts in a secure lockable storage. Remove the steering wheel if fitted and keep that in doors. Clamps/locks like wheel clamps and steering wheel clamps have a visual deterrent to the casual thief but it's been proven in tests that a determined thief can get through them in a few minutes.
  13. These days mainly #7 as the UAZ and Landie invariably wind up in Living History. The OT-90 pretty much always did. Occasionally at smaller shows its #2 although vehicles are displayed with some kit and any tentage, seats etc are behind so photographers are happy. In that regard the Militant will be the best of both worlds as the accomodation is in the back under the tilt. As for W&P - up till last year there were always opportunities to go for a rumble in the arena no matter what you owned. Last year though the arena program seemed to be too WW2 centric. Hopefully that will be one of the changes this year.
  14. Wasn't it Kubinka that had a Sturm Tiger?? I seem to recall one of their claims to fame was having the only complete collection of Tiger variants in the world.
  15. No - I haven't seen Antiques Roadshow in ages - if it was this weeks maybe I can find it on the catch-up channel?
  16. What I saw of the cab interior said Mk II to me - spent enough time behind the dash of one but I could be wrong And it certainly looked and sounded OK whilst driving/ Agreed about the bang though - probably more propane or fuel/air mix to make a fireball than actual bang stuff
  17. What one earth was left to use after they blew the damn thing up - esp. given the apparent size of the bang?? What a waste of a good vehicle
  18. Looks like some good news tonight! Been hunting for a spare distribution valve for the air brakes since I got the Militant and looks like that has paid off. Heard via e-mail from a firm called Erentek (www.erentek.co.uk) tonight - they say they can supply the valve for £90 + carriage and VAT. So I've asked them to order me one - once it arrives it will- I hope - be a straight forwards 1 off, 1 on operation and then the brakes will be 100% Once that is done then the old girl will be usable and can be taken for runs, panel work permitting :-) EDIT: final price inc. VAT and carriage is £126.00
  19. Any chance you could post that "how to" for the rest of us Knocker owners please Rob??
  20. Bumped. Still looking for the brake valve - I want to do a straight swap rather than leave the system open to atmosphere for however long it takes to recondition the existing valve. Rear Brake Air Distribution Valve - that bolts to the cross member just behind the rear-most axle - according to the ISPL (Army publication code 22084) the description is "Valve Assembly, Relay A.P. Brake" shown on plate X, item 112. AEC part number is 5006-446. Army part number is LV6MT9/2530-99-802-4900.
  21. A 20 ton bottle jack for the Militants tool locker - care of the Daughter Mk 1.
  22. Father Christmas just ticked another item off the "to get" list this morning - he dropped off a Draper 20 ton jack care of the Daughter Mk1. :-D :-D
  23. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too you too Degsy and to every other member of the forum. May 2017 be a better year for us all than 2016 was.
  24. Christmas came early today - I had couriers lining up to deliver bits and pieces this morning. Quite a novel experience. :-) First to arrive were the replacement winder mechanisms for the door glass. Probably means the next letter to come will be another VAT demand from HMRC :-) Anyways - hopefully these are now the correct style back plates to fit the Militants doors: Next in was Robs AEC calendar- the entry for April looking awfully familiar And then lastly the power cable for the RAK-15 boiling vessel turned up. As you can see in the photo - the correct 3 pin plug is fitted at one and whilst the other end has two bare end to I can fit whatever connectors I need.
  25. Congratulations Rob :-) Actually Father Christmas needs to bring you TWO sets of shiny new number plates - the ones for the new Civilian reg and a set for the Military reg for show use!! The latter set having no silver border!!
