  1. Hi Mark, What is the army registration number of your Fox? I may have some info on it. Noisy power steering suggests it needs bleeding, air in the system can make some funny noises. Check the fluid level, this is the little black tank behind the gunners seat, there is a dip stick in the cap. To bleed the system you need to lift the front wheels off the ground, start the engine and operate the steering wheel from lock to lock with the bleed nipple on the steering column open. I hope this helps, Chris
  2. Hi Piet, I don't have my catering trailer manual anymore, but it did describe the difference between the petrol and propane burners. Mine were the type on the left and all worked fine on propane. I think the other one may be a petrol burner, maybe someone with the manual can check for you. Chris
  3. ...and maybe this one too...
  4. CVR(W) Fox User Handbook, Army Code 61007, Dated 1973 Page 118, 1.f: Operate the gear change pedal at least six times in each gear. I should have said this earlier, but didn't, buy this book and read it before doing anything else. http://www.shop.milweb.net/proddetail.php?prod=mlrs_1116
  5. 50 times and you'd have no leg left! 5 times in each gear is about right.
  6. I used the word 'kick' to make it sound different to how you would use a clutch pedal. The important thing is not to ride it like a clutch, so if you're kicking it you're pushing it down and letting it come back up quickly. The bottom line is that Troy needs to get in the Fox and have a go, it's not that scary.
  7. To change gear, select the one you want and kick the pedal down to the floor and let it come straight back up. As others have said, do not hold it down, make the movement as fast and smooth as possible. If it doesn't quite select you will get a false neutral and the pedal will come back up really hard. You may need to press it down with both feet if this happens, it means you didn't push it down far enough when trying to change. Once you get used to it you will quite like it. After changing gear I always select the next gear, either up or down, and then I just hit the pedal when I need it. Chris

  9. Try ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BAY15D-STOP-TAIL-LIGHT-BULBS-24V-TEN-PIECES-24-6W_W0QQitemZ290362363091QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CommercialVehicleParts_SM?hash=item439af20cd3

    battery box.

The Steering wheel should be painted black, as should the gear change knob. The hand brake and the fwd/rev lever should be silver. Nothing inside was painted red unless some bored squaddie or previous owner painted it. I bought batteries which fitted snugly in the boxes and have never had a problem with them moving about, but you could cut some bits of wood to fill up the gaps if using smaller batteries.
  11. That's a Chieftain, not Challenger.
  12. Lewis, They don't like to idle untill they have warmed up a bit. You need to start it up, give it a bit of gas and then lock the pedal in position using the wing nut so that it'll run at 1000-1500rpm. Let it do this for a couple of minutes before trying to drive off otherwise it'll cough and sputter. Chris
  13. The green is Nato Green BS381C shade 285 and the black is just black. The British Army don't have set patterns and it's left to whoever paints it to decide what it looks like. As a rule of thumb it should be 2/3 green and 1/3 black.
  14. Lewis, There is no choke cable. You need one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Military-army-cvrt-control-rod-2849_W0QQitemZ360213632190QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET?hash=item53de67d4be Stick it through the hole in the bulkhead and attach to the carb. I don't bother with them though, I find all 3 J60s start fine without any choke. Chris
  15. There is/should be a wing nut on the accelerator linkage pivot, so you can lock the throttle in position for warming up the engine or charging the batteries.
  16. Without hearing it I can't say if theres anything wrong, but they do make quite a lot of noise, so it's probably fine. Is it running any better now? Chris
  17. You need to remove the engine and/or gearbox to change the flywheel seals anyway.
  18. I blasted and painted my manifolds, tubes, elbow etc with this stuff: http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?productID=9498&frostProductName=Manifold Grey (473ml) It's been on since 2002 and still shows no sign of burning off.. but you will need to blast the parts first. Chris
  19. Typically only vehicles which are deployed to the front line would be painted green/black, green/sand etc. So this would be most armoured vehicles, some Land Rovers and trucks etc. Vehicles which are based back from the front lines, or those which never leave camp or stay just in the UK are usually kept plain green. Trucks, Land Rovers etc which are refurbished by ABRO are painted green after repair/rebuild so you can often see 'ex-reserve' vehicles for sale which are plain green. When the Land Rover Wolf was taken in to service in 1997 they were supplied with a paint warranty, which lasted for so many years. These vehicles had to remain plain green during this period otherwise the warranty was void. I hope this helps, Chris
  20. I know it had the Sabre conversion as it's on my list, which means I have seen it somewhere....
  21. Clive, I have some of these tags on a roll, which are supposed to be printed or written on, and then heat shrunk on to the wires. Sadly they are too big for individual wires and I've never really found a use for them. I'll take a photo for you. Chris
  22. I already have several of those wolf tow ropes! :cool2:
  23. You can't get a new loom, you will have to make up the individual cables. I have replaced several sections of mine. I managed to find some other wiring harnesses with those plugs on, but made out of modern fireproof wire, which I cut to length and replaced various bits with. You sometimes see those plugs for sale on ebay too. Chris
  24. Malvern, Stoneleigh and even Beltring are not what they used to be if you need spares or vehicle bits. We only go to pick up or drop off bits and catch up with friends these days. Today I spent £10 on the stalls, the others I went with spent nothing other than entrance fee and food.
