  1. There are no known METAL kits of a Ferret. The Accurate Armour one is a Resin hull, but all the periphials are metal. IE: wheels, susspension, etc. All other known kits are plastic. Mike. :coffee:
  2. Now thats MUCH better!....Especially the R.E.M.E Cap badges!........:cool2: Mike.
  3. Your obviously not being Taxed enough then!...............
  4. They (Duxford) may well have done an exchange for something then? Museums do move things around to better thier collections.........:-\
  5. Excersise Spearpoint was a major FTX (Field Training Exercise) in the 70's. I should know, I was one of those on it! :red:
  6. Hi Neil, Bad luck Mate. Looks like you have a case of 'get one disorder, get another two free'! There's not a lot you can say to your post, even, keep your chin up. Is only words when you find out something like this. The one thing you DO have here though, is Friends! Take care Sir. Kind Regards: Mike
  7. I cant' swear to it being the EXACT same model. But I saw what APPEARED to be one of these guns outside a hanger at Duxford IWM collection. Hopefully, it has been preserved & in thier collection now? Mike.
  8. This was an entirely personal choice. Down to each individual to make thier lives a bit easier/ convienient as appropriate. It was common for a lot of rules to be relaxed whilst on Excercise. If it made your job/ life easier & got the end task completed better than issue kit. It was recognised by wise CSM's SNCO's Etc. That if the guys were happier, well rested (When & where possible!) & some items of kit were pratctical & better than issue stuff. As long as it was safe, they turned a blind eye. I used to wear German Para High leg boots on Manouvers long before this sort of footwear was as common issue as it is today. It made it easier first thing when exiting your maggot to put 'em on. Bugger messing about with DMS boots & puttees! Warmer & a LOT more comfortable & convinient! Im sure a lot of the other members on this Forum who have served will confirm & add thier own personal preferences too! :cool2:
  9. Doesnt it just break your heart that things like these are just left to Rot!.......
  10. Wot! Can't, you stir your tea wivit?...............................:wow:
  11. The CORRECT brake adjustment must be done when the steering box is cold. The Tillers (Steering levers to the uninistiated!) must have some freeplay before they opperate the steering/braking. This is checked very easily. Take up the slack in each tiller one at a time. The distance between the little cutout in the brown padding so your fingertips touch the hull. And the front face of the tiller lever must be. From fingertips to end of the palm of your hand. Any less & that band is too tight/ over adjusted. Any more, & it needs a little adjustment. This is what we used to work to when I repaired & maintained 432's in Service. It is better to be a little slack than over adjusted! Hope this gets you out of your predicament! Mike.
  12. Good luck with that! I tried to register a MKII Ferret at Brighton when I lived in Eastbourne. I phoned first & spoke to (Eventually!) The vehicle inspector type chappie. NO WAY was he going to register it as MOT exempt!! :-X I found a way round it VERY easily, but you will have to PM me for the answer! . I was told later that Maidstone are VERY good as they have dealt with a lot of guys from IMPS & were familiar with our brand of vehicles. This was a few years ago now, hopefully that particular inspector has left! :-D It seems that the standards of interpretation vary from office to office. As some of our members have found out when attempting to renew thier Road tax licences! Dont forget: If granted MOT exemption, this does NOT exempt you from keeping the vehicle in a roadworthy condition! Best of luck, Mike.
  13. There is a T34/85 & a Saracen APC in the back garden area of a Pub. Right on the Seafront at Dymchurch in Kent. Rumor is, the landlord MAY be willing to sell. Worth an enquirey as it looks like it's in good condition from observing from the seafront. (Easy to spot) The Saracen looks like it need a good paint, & I would imagine a bit of work to get it running again! Mike. :coffee:
  14. looks like it would make a good venue for a small museum.........:cool2:
  15. Hey Mate, why dont you now start a thread about the shape of spam tins?......... ONLY Joking!
  16. As I said in a previous post about shipping stuff back from theatre. It CAN be done! If they can ship a Tank back, Artillery peices would be easier! This will most probably end up as a unit Gate Guardian/ Trophy.:-\ I suspect this is something organised within a unit at high level on the quiet! Good for them! :yay:
  17. There are RFVR Supply ships & Hercules Transports that deliver goods/ loads from the UK all the time. They mostly return EMPTY, that wouldnt cost the MOD much to fill with a small cargo at a time. Trucks going to the port of delivery to collect deliveries could carry 2 guns at a time. Then off load for loading onto the ship. :coffee:
  18. Oh what a Dammed waste!! The British Army is screaming for lack of funding for gear. If these guns were bought back to the UK by the MOD & Legally disposed of through Withams. Think of the revenue generated from the sale of all this gear! But as we are all aware, the Government doesnt' opperate on common sense. EI: Saving pennies & wasting thousands! :argh: If the stuff was Deactivated correctly, it's simply scrap to the Army BUT, has a good resale value generating cash to buy current, needed equipment! I for one, would LOVE a 105mm Pack How to tow behind my RL! Mike.
  19. Well, not actually involved in this one....But I lived in Herford for three VERY happy years as an Army Brat! My Dad was Regimental Armourer attached to 7 Signal Regt just up the road about 1.5 Klicks. I Know Herford well & really enjoyed living in that Town/ area. A Nice place to be based. Most of the three sets of Barracks in that area have now closed & been handed back to the Germans. But I belive that the main HQ block & RMP desk there is still opperative. North Rhine Westfallia, lovely part of the country, & well worth a visit! :iloveyou: Mike.
  20. that is EXACTLY the cover!! Well Posted! :yay:
  21. Taste: Well, I guess it's down to each individual as to 'Does' it taste nice'? I personally like Corned beef. I am still inclined to belive a square(ish) tin is safer than a round one for stabillity in Transport. (It will not roll around as much if broken loose from a packing case! :-D Mike.
  22. EXCELLENT!........:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:!!!!!
  23. Richard, You are quite correct. It is a standard comercial THERMOS brand flask & cup with a Black plastic handle on the side that goes flat. The same as the ones on the front of the old 'lift up lid' record players!) The Military ones differ ONLY in that they have a N.A.T.O Stock number on them. They THEN will will fit in the brackets when inserted insdie those green nylon tube covers with WHITE foam liners inside to protect the flask. They also have an adjustable shoulder strap as well. There used to be loads around & people didnt know what they were for! :cool2: Mike.
  24. I have eggs on my shelves all year round! They have a lever & a Ring & pin on the tops!.............................................................
  25. When I run out of fingers, I remove my socks & use my toes!....:-D
