  1. Bet the paperwork took longer to do than the fire did to burn out . . . R
  2. hmm I should have been able to put a name to them, darn it. The running gear looked Centurionesque. R
  3. Now that is the colour I would like to see our 90 in. I cant stand the yellow. Looks very sharp with the RAFPOL signage and markings. R
  4. Can anyone shed any light on how this came to be a total loss, by the looks of it. It must be a maintenance legend. http://www.militaryimages.net/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/23400 R
  5. Our condolences from across the pond. R
  6. Revoltingly good work, shame it will be buried so deep in the vehicle, perhaps you should make another as a display item?:whentitsdone: R
  7. There are those like myself who respect peoples careers and jobs. Welcome to the forum. Bit extreme selling your flat to take up scale model making isn't it? Do you have any pictures of one of these you could contribute? R
  8. I guess this is the place to admit my negligence of massive proportions. Because Land Rover walked away, literally, from these shores in the early 1970s, all their trade names were unprotected. I was but a matter of months late in trying to protect certain names associated with the product marque on these shores in the 1980s. I could have been driving a new vehicle every 6 months if I had thought of it earlier. Oh regrets R
  9. Tony, Would you be able to find out the makers name of them, I would have to have to carry coals to Newcastle and order one from England made here! Thanks R
  10. Well, On Thursday I took the gearbox and transfer case to Kingston transmission and then turned around and went back to the shop and made a crate to sit the engine on and then loaded that and took it off to Pratt Diesel in Carp, Ontario. Now with those two items gone I can pull out the leaking fuel tank and send it out for repair estimate to the same shop I will take the radiator to. Next week we will start the "list" of parts needed and get those ordered and set it all aside until parts or assemblies come back. R
  11. Just as an adjunct to this thread, the deactivation in one country doesn't carry over to another. In Canada, we can not import a deac from the UK even with papers unless a firearms dealer with the proper licence does it because it is considered to be "live" until it reaches these shores and has been proven to be deactivated properly. Its a big rigamarole and headache that means that Canadian deacs in the UK like Brens have little value in the UK and all we can do is sit and drool over them. R
  12. Welcome to the forum. please expand on your service time and what hardware you served with would be useful. There are many of us here with artillery related vehicles and kit ranging from Tracked Rapier, Stormer, through 105 guns and up. I presume your good with a paint pot of red paint? regards Robin
  13. Sorry to deviate the thread a bit but in case you have not seen me posting this elsewhere, we have gone through the saga of Spartan fuel tanks ourselves a few years ago and fitted this tank and made a sub floor which really opens up the vehicle and improves how the vehicle runs, until you puke a rod through the oil pan . . . "There were no new holes made or anything welded on in this process". All old items saved, completely reversible. R
  14. I started yesterday afternoon working for about an hour and removed the radiator and front grille and took out the air filter and the fan shroud. I did try to get the Phillips head screws out that hold the floor panels in but they were all corroded so elected to cut them off. We will have to address that issue later. Phillips head fasteners should be banned under the Geneva convention. I had four hours booked last night to get the engine and gearbox out. I had been advised to pull the engine out first which we did, no drama there. The gearbox was a bit more awkward and it was our first time but after some head scratching it went well. We have found some extra issues that we will have to sort out plus some we think wise to do at the same time. - The fuel tank is leaking - Prop shaft U joints need replacing in two places - All four axle seals leaking - Think we should put in a new clutch slave and master cylinder as it is easy to do now. - Think we should renew the brake master and check the wheel cylinders at the same time, truck has sat for 2 years. - Inspect brake shoes - Radiator to be pressure tested and washed That is all I can remember from the dry erase board. Taking the various bits out today so I can clean the shop up. R
  15. Here is the data plate off the seat box. From what I recall this vehicle build was not made in great quantity, can anyone else comment? Funnily, at least to me, after going to the great effort to give a long description as to what type of vehicle it is the one thing they neglect to put on the data plate is that it is LHD. R
  16. Dear Nudge and Mike, I honestly can not agree with you on why it was painted yellow. I am well aware of how some RAF vehicles were painted like the glider 90s, but here is where I draw my suspicions come from;- - when the vehicle was received out here the vehicle was so freshly painted, all over and all inside save the engine bay with no patina or wear to the paint. - It already had a rebuild engine in it from MOD but all the fasteners that hold the gearbox tunnel in inside the cab were painted over. You have to take those out to change the engine. - I can not honestly see the RAF taking the care to paint the inside as that part is not visible to an aircraft and would be extra work for the sake of extra work. - I have visited the certain seller in Grantham and have been through their paint shop and see how pretty they make a vehicle, putting filler in the blade of a grader for example. It just reeks of their work. - The colour is not one that I would say has any resemblence to any of the other 90s painted by the RAF. Over to you R
  17. Interestingly I see it has the single plate with the letter T stamped in it. What wood does it have on the vehicle? I had always thought that the T referred to a vehicle having wood used in its construction and that this showed that the wood had been "tropicalised" or preserved in some way. Any comments R
  18. There are two answers to your question. The first is that you are only the temporary custodian of that vehicle and to do so would "change" it from original. The second is that it is yours and you decide. Obviously you have a speed and power issue, ever thought of an overdrive? R
  19. A good friend up the road, non forum chap has a problem. He needs to put a clutch in their BV202. Does anyone have part numbers or sources of the pressure plate, bearings, etc etc to do a full clutch job? We both think these cross over to a civvy Volvo car components but we dont have those part numbers or a source. Any help or leads gratefully accepted. R
  20. Charlie, you are thrashing away at hundred miles an hour, very wonderful. Have you put a call in to Phillip Bashal like I suggested . .. . .? How about some pictures for those of us who have never seen one in the flesh? R
  21. Dear Tony, I know you are a smart man so you will understand! The quirks of working for other people rather than yourself plus being across the pond do present some challenges. Nope, it is going to be a 2.5 na diesel as manufactured. End of story. Dont get me started about "getting a container" and stuffing it full of goodies, don't go there Ps much preferred your old avatar. R
  22. Charlie, by the sounds of it you are "new" to the military vehicle scene. I could start of by saying that "an electrical system is just like a water system" bu I will make myself scream! Patience is something that you will have to develop. I'm a bit stumped for offering you advice about where to buy Wolf parts (as I live in Canada) but ebay in the UK seems to have bits around. I would suggest speaking with a very nice gent Mr Phil Bashal down at Dunsfold Land Rover. He is a mine of information on anything military Land Rover related. I have met him several times and done business with him. R
  23. Gents, Rhank you for the replies. So, it seems modern materials have now come into play and hessian is being changed for nylon. Any idea when that started happening? I think I am going to buy a roll of hessian at 72" wide and start cutting lengths for a vehicle. I was thinking of how to "tone" it down and put some dark splodges into it. . . . Thanks again R
