  1. Getting flat paint matched over here has been a tortuous process with zero matches ever achieved. Some subterfuge was involved in getting the last lot in. R
  2. In response to a comment made by Snapper I thought I would drop a few lines on the subject. Being here in Canada, the availability of parts is just about zero. Anything we want has to be bought from UK classifieds or eblag or from UK suppliers. That means a credit card, outrageous postage, customs clearance and duties and a wait if it is anything bigger than a letter size item. Most packages are opened by Customs. The nearest person who has anything like we have is 2 hours away. The best resource is this forum and other MV sites and friendly knowledgeable UK suppliers. There is a plethora of M series vehicles and jeeps but very few British vehicles and even les knowledge on how to maintain them. One of the items we have the most proble with is paint as it is hazardous material and is a whole palava to import. I'm sure others can add more R

  4. Their tireless efforts resolve a surrounding problem R
  5. Our problem was an over enthusiastic helper in the shop while I answered a phone call in the office. It still comes back on me to take responsibility and to fix it. He meant well but as I was in a scrap on the phone with a supplier on another issue he did what he thought best and went ahead. R
  6. Hello from Canada! We too have a Supacat ATMP but a MK2A and we have two FLPT Do you have all the manuals and schematics for yours? We have some Supacat spares in some quantity. Rgds Robin
  7. So Lee, that begs 3 questions:- 1 what on earth did they put a grease nipple on there for then, to confuse the enemy?? 2 and how do you get the oil in then? 3 How do you get grease out if it has been put in then? R
  8. Someone recently somewhere on here stated that the A arm lower grease nipples should actually be charged with oil. Can anyone expand or explain please? R
  9. Ok, so you know, I took my motorbike licence in the Army, it was the venerable Canams in those days. I have always had quite a chuckle out of the Rotax powered Harley Davidsons (hardly dangerous as they are known here) and have lusted for one of those or a Armstrong. Can anyone enlighten me as to any kind of comparison of rideability, serviceability, parts availability and enjoyment that would enable me to chose between the three and buy something that is more than 15 years old for entry to Canada? Im plotting and scheming to get one. . . R

Pardon me for commenting, but I do have to say they are very good to deal with. Add to that the fact they have a picture of my old Ferret as their artwork. R
  11. Grasshopper, Great progress, but what is your vehicle doing next to a pikey caravan? R
  12. That all sounds grand Lee, is it a conversion that is possible to reinstate all the original equipment ie "no new holes nothing welded on"? that is a requirement of anything we do. R
  13. Yes Chris, I do suspect that end as it lacks a "rocking" feel to it, anyhow, front deck off again. Im putting the vehicle VOR until then. R
  14. Well, Lee thats a brilliant answer and I have printed it off to put in the shop. Sadly, as hay season is fast approaching and we need to do repairs on our hay barn the Fox will just have to be put aside until time or manpower allows. Likely 2 week s or more for that. R
  15. Sorry about the quality but I was so heavily involved it was useless to have a camera so i snapped these with my phone. R
  16. So, after all the b/s we have endured the Fox is still out of service. Last week we got the vehicle buttoned back up ready to be part of the OPFOR for an execise. It started up fairly easily although numerous cranking attempts (15 seconds per go) seem to heat the starter and cause it too bind and not function. Anyhow, she started and I took it for a test drive on the property and after about 800 metres went up a slope to turn around, in doing so it spluttered and died. Once I had rolled it back to the flat again it did fire again but only lasted for about 3 minutes. We towed it back to the shop and presuming it was low fuel added 60 litres. We cranked it over a number of times but it really felt like no fuel. Anyway, we tucked it back into the shop as other tasks had to get done. Later that night i did roll it over again but again no luck and now the batteries are getting a bit weak so it is going to have to be slaved. Im thinking that a low fuel state and the slope slopped any crud in the tank around and the fuel filter is likely plugged. So in the next few days we will pull that off and check it and then go again and prove fuel at the carb. Troublesome vehicle R
  17. The Sabre has what I can only describe as a "half cock" problem when shifting. It seems that each gear needs two actions with the pedal per shift rather than one. Im thinking that the linkage is coming loose and getting too much play. Any thoughts before I unbutton the front armour to delve into this? R
  18. I can but only whole heartedly agree with the previous post The collection I work for was looking at another AFV earlier this year and did look at this one seriously along with a 432 and and 439 and a 434. Sadly monies were forced into another project. I would love to buy it but have tied up my personal cash with 2 Ferrets and a deposit on land to build a house. I think it is a great vehicle and would be mortified if it was scrapped. R
  19. What about exhaust / muffler for the CVR(W) Fox, they are like hens teeth also R
  20. Frankly I can not agree more with Kevin's comments. Cheap = Unsafe. Over 'ere we have laws that are onerous and well enforced about trailers and weights. Too much weight on a trailer for a small vehicle and the tail starts wagging the dog. What about stopping power also? I carry a Carrier for a friend locally quite often every year and know that cross chaining works wonders and keeps them in line and on the spot on our trailer. Trailering is an art form and an acquired skill best practiced from the drivers seat and not the living room armchair IMHO. R
  21. Frankly Im a purist but also believe people should do what they want with their own kit. Keep it a Canadian MK1 and markings etc to reflect that. Could you please email me off line? Robin 2 Cdn Mk1 Ferrets
  22. Personally I have always liked the looks of the Panhard VBL, dashing good looks coupled with wheeled practicality. R
  23. I see an advert for CVRT parts etc etc on milweb armour ad tracked section. If you delve through the company's website it looks suspiciously like kit from Jacksons and the aerial piccy looks like the Rocket Site. any comments? R
