  1. http://www.panzermuseum-munster.de/home/aktuelles/detail/article/die-schwerste-katze-aller-zeiten.html Waiting for photos....
  2. I don't think the rebels in Syria will care about the medium term viability of there weapons
  3. It would seem pointless to supply assault weapons without ammunition.... One would expect he deal with Croatia involved, 44s, magazines and a good supply of Kurtz rounds, it would not be surprising if Kurtz were in post war production in Yugoslavia....after all they did use 44s until the country collapsed....50 years after German wartime production would have stopped.
  4. I visted the Belgian Tank Museums new home in Bastogne Barracks in 2011, this video (not mine) is of the yearly Nuts day run in December. Note the AEC running past and the other vehicles they have, in my opinion the range of restored wartime armour they have it really very good...a running Multibank Firefly and a Cromwell (Ex-Charioteer) trumps Bovington in some respects. Something went wrong... Also the coffee and beer are to die for....I loved working in Belgium!
  5. You really do have too many projects Maurice! Is that possible....oh, a very deep question.
  6. I haven't noticed it to be honest, however, the larger the membership, the higher the probability that some members will be 'off'. It takes all sorts..... and some sorts are not very nice to be around  Must add that Jacks personal body guards run a tight ship, most rude or offensive posts are not up for very long.
  7. I see you have been using Zintec* sheet, well done that man, an eye to the future! When I finally get around to the thin sections of the Loyd hull, I will make it all from Zintec sheet. *Perhaps not that brand but still a Mill Galvanised product.
  8. Apparently there is one due for publication later this year, the IOW tank museum have contributed...let's hope it is better than the Sherman one
  9. What I was trying to get across was that the photos indicate the brackets used for the Houseboat camouflage system. :-D I would guess that the mounting point forward of that visible has been removed when the appliqué armour was added, it is only stitched at the bottom so I would say it was a field mod...did Sherman V ever get factory fitted appliqué armour? Perhaps when some went through the Chrysler refurb program before being shipped over the Britain they were factory modified....
  10. Tank Museum should be able to tell you or at least pass your request on to the Weald Foundation as they did exhaustive testing on Wartime German paints to get the colour and the Zimmerit correct for the Tiger 1 and the Stug III.
  11. Yes, that's the one I saw Scott.
  12. Friday 8th Feb, around 4pm, going West on the M6 between Coventry and Birmingham. Saw a slightly rough looking blue Scammell Pioneer on the back of a lorry, Jenni took a photo and put to on Facebook. It looked like a restoration project, I presume it was an older restoration that had become unloved. There was a large 'RN' painted in white on the drivers door.
  13. I have been told (who knows the validity of it) that the FT17 being restored had been converted into a fixed emplacement and as such had its running gear removed when dug in.
  14. To me that final photo just goes to show why AT Guns were so effective, that would be rather hard to spot!
  15. Is it likely that Dennis Roberts will attend with any of his wartime armour? After all, it is only half a mile down the lane to his farm!
  16. P-O's page on Wartime Tanks preserved in France tells you everything you need to know, what you realise is that France is overflowing with Shermans! http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France.html
  17. Fantastic news.....as that has always been my hope for the Loyd Carrier....so long as someone can bring along a 6 Pdr to pull behind it. Clive, Rob, fancy a trip down to Dorset sometime before 2020? :undecided:
  18. I know of two Universal Carriers, one nr Market Rasen which is fully restored and another which has just come back from blasting on the road to a full restoration.
  19. Does the Sherman shown earlier (#311) have the centre and possibly rear side bracket for the skirts that were seen on some of the Vc in Normandy (at least it is photos on Vc that I have noticed them on)? I have not seen any images of the skirts fitted in practice, but a number of serving vehicles have the brackets welded on in period photos. It doesn't have the forward bracket fitted on either side. I hope the above makes sense, I have confused myself!
  20. It's an M4A3 76mm surely? The rear plate looks like M4A3 or M4A2, but behind the chap on the left you can see the vertical support for the engine bay doors when they are opened, that was only fitted to M4A3s. Turret looks like a normal 76mm Sherman one to me.
  21. There seems to be a large proportion of surviving Panthers and current projects that originated from Saumur, I presume that the museum collected them from the French military.... They don't all look to be range targets (the KW ones look like they have been targets or used for testing armour) what is the story behind all the Panthers from France?
  22. The front x-tube is finally free from bogies! After yet more attention with a sledge hammer the bogie came off and the chassis mount has been covered in Plusgas for a while before I heat it up and drift it off, then the x-tube can be painted and put on the shelf. Luckly I have a second reasonably good chassis mount from the other Loyd Carrier, it is about the only salvagable item on the other x-tube as you can see in the photo below. The chassis x-tube mount that it still in place on the good x-tube has one bent corner and a weld that has cracked, but appart from that it survived the firing range unharmed. Above you can see the brass bushes that the bogies run on, they are split have x shaped grooves in them to take the oil from the centre section of the bogies which has a lubrication nipple. The other shims are used to get the bogie in line with the run of the track. Two wrecks = one good item :-)
  23. Thanks for those links, it is always nice to see Loyds captured on film. Interesting to see how they are stowed, the ones coming across the pontoon bridge have all sorts on top of the canvas.
  24. No I didn't, I'll have a look, thanks. I have had a look and can't find any Loyd hits with a quick search, what did you find it under?
