  1. Thanks Andy. I thought I must be missing something.... End of gear lever quite worn, will see if I can select gears over the week end when I loosely re-assemble
  2. Had a look at the starter motor. The On/Off switch was jammed, now all free so ready for testing Brought the gearbox inside... It doesn’t have an air compressor fitted. Will need to look for one as I think it should be fitted, but it will run without one. The box had no oil in it  and must have been subjected to a bit of damp a bit of damp. So the Yokes wouldn’t move on the shafts And the gears in the box would not slide up the splined shafts. Plenty of penetrating oil and a gentle bit of persuasion, all are now free. There is minimal corrosion on the gears and they don’t look too bad (have seen a lot worse). The yoke rods have all been cleaned up although there is some visible corrosion on these, the yokes now slide freely and if kept well oiled and use should be OK. Only one yoke is significantly worn The gear selector trap is worn. I am considering drilling out the rivets that hold the trap and replacing them with set screws (as it will be easier ro clean and refurb if necessary) likewise the two pegs (think that these are just bashed in) that hold the ball of the stick in place I will re-assemble over the week end and check all gears can be selected. I will then re-strip the box, replace the bearings if necessary.
  3. Good day at the shed.. Engine Number is KM0/2131/SE Chassis Number is very difficult to read and is badly corroded bits can be read depending on the angle you look at it, the letter spacing is quite wide. The M&W are just about discernible, the C is clear followed by 560 (0 being rather faint) last digit looks like 8, so chassis number is something like MWC560??8 Any idea what font the stamping is so I can attempt to digitally enhance the photos I have taken, or any other tips on making the numbers clearer would be good. Also any info on serial numbers so I can better date the MWC Engine turns fairly freely, the gearbox is seized and is now off the truck and in my shed at home so it can be worked on. Possibly gear selector rods stuck, as output turn freely, but input does not turn. Starter motor turns freely but did not want to spin up, possible the switch contacts at the back will see.. Fuel pump is also on the bench for refurb One thing I did notice there is a piece missing from the bottom of the bell housing, is this a thin sheet protective cover ? Going back to the instrument panel, there is some corrosion around the four drilled holes and this is similar to the other holes, so can’t really tell if it’s original or not
  4. Sat down and started looking at the instrument panel. The Speedo isn’t correct but the other two instruments are as per the manual I have albeit they were in the wrong holes. The panel had been covered over with a green type cloth, removing this revealed the holes for the data plate and the inspection light sockets. I think that the data plate should be as shown below (It was missing so need to get one, list get bigger and bigger...) What does puzzle me is the four small holes to the right of the inspection light sockets I was expecting to find a hole for the stop light switch (any ideas what should go here ?) Just as an aside, the lighting switch had been incorrectly re-assembled at some time so that the switch would never give the right outputs to the lights. I have seen this before on Austin Champ switches, and is because the backing to the switch section is not keyed and can be put back in two ways. Off to the shed tomorrow to have a good look over her and play hunt the chassis number etc...

  9. Hi I have (what I believe) is a command post shelter for a 432. I would prefer it to go to someone who actually will use it. The canvas is in pretty good condition, there are few exhaust burn holes in an area of about 12”x12”, one small 4” tear and another one about 1” long. Stencilling on Canvas Reads: Shelter Canvas 24x14 NSN 8430-99-800-0043 VTS4A3/6280P J.S.F. 1998 I have no idea how much it is worth, or indeed if anyone wants one, so open to offers. Canvas is located in Fareham, Hants (may be able to take to Beltring or Military Odyssey) Cheers Richard

  14. Hi If you booked on-line, Trevor will e-mail you a pass etc, it took a week to get mine but I booked some time ago If you don't get a reply in the next few days pop Trevor an e-mail at trevor@stollyhospital.co.uk Cheers Richard

  16. Hi Interesting item, not seen one of those before. The single pin Plessey Mk4 sockets marked A&B are generally only used on base station sets so not for in vehicle use. Cheers Richard
  17. Hi The ATU you bought is for a Larkspur C11 If you look at http://www.wftw.nl/harness.html you will see all the Larkspur boxes In general for each set you will need an LT (power distribution box) and a J1 control box, and mic/headset. Power cables are two core with Plessey Mk4 2pin connectors (power goes to the set and the J1 box) Control Cables are 12 core with Plessy Mk4 12 Pin Connectors (goes from the set to the J1 box) Microphone sockets on the J1 box are 5 pin Plessy Mk4 connectors The larkspur O box is a special box that allows the operator to use the radio without a control harness, this generally only used in emergencies Hope this help Cheers Richard
  18. Hi All Just booked and looking forward to it ... T&Cs are on the W&P website see https://warandpeacerevival.com/show-safety-rules-regs/ £35 for a weeks holiday, excluding travel and subsistence is great value. A chance to meet old friends, make new ones, talk about things that of interest to public/exhibitors, buy stuff you never realised you wanted, etc etc. Some observations We have to remember that this is and has always been a commercial venture, and if the organisers see no profit, they won’t be organising it so we will all be looking for other shows to go to. In my opinion, the prime revenue streams are The paying public (to be entertained) The stallholders (also there to make a profit) The exhibitors (to show off our vehicles, re-enact , meet like minded people, buy from the stall holders etc etc) If any one of these is out of balance, the organisers won’t make profit. If all the exhibitors got in free, then the paying public and stallholders would burden all the costs and it likely that the traders and public wouldn’t turn up due to prohibitive costs. Conversely if all the public were let in free, then the burden would fall on the traders and exhibitors, this really would push up the price of attendance and the majority of exhibitors probably wouldn’t turn up. The organiser has to make a judgement on how the revenue stream is divided in an attempt (albeit difficult) to satisfy all stakeholders. Cheers Richard
  19. Hi I hope this is the right place on the Forum Does anyone know where I can get new seals for British Army 13 Litre Norwegian Food Container, this is the older smaller type. Can the 18 litre ones be adapted ? Cheers Richard
  20. Hi All Further to my previous post .... When sending in booking form either by e-mail of snail mail you will have to send in a copy of your vehicle insurance certificate As I understand it 40 MVs and 7 traders have booked so far Cheers Richard Cant make up my mind if to wash some of the mud off after the Overlord show
  21. Hi All Just sent my booking form off. There seems to be a lot of confusion over booking, the web site you need to go to is http://www.portsmouthcommemorates2014.co.uk/anniversaries/details/the-d-day-experience you can down load the booking forms from there The event organiser is Craig Willcock who works for Portsmouth City Council contact details below Craig Willcock Cultural Development Officer Seafront Services and Events Team Portsmouth City Council Seafront Services Avenue de Caen Southsea PO5 3NS T: 023 9283 4109 E: craig.willcock@portsmouthcc.gov.uk Hope this helps as most people I spoke to at Overlord over the week end had no idea of how to book in and even if it was going ahead Cheers Richard
  22. All good fun playing in the mud, but not for some ...... beer lorry took a wrong turn, did offer to unload what he had left on it but ..... he chose to be winched out by a Foden wrecker which took most of the day !!!!! The star vehicle at the show was this .... (before anyone asks, I got permission from his father to post it here)[photo taken on iPhone at about 21:00 hours hence the poor quality.] What a cool machine and no class H licence needed, he had no trouble getting around and did not get stuck anywhere. Richard
  23. Hi Looks like it is up for sale again (see other thread) Richard Seen this for sale on Donedeal Ireland I know nothing about it, I just seen it for sale and thought it interesting. http://cars.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-...hassis/5483922
  24. What a great show Arrived Tuesday and got back after lunch today, spent the rest of the afternoon dusting off my bits and pieces, I’ll be jet washing the landy and 9x9 tomorrow. Kitchener’s field was very very dusty, however I have it on very good authority that straight after the show it will be rolled and sown with grass, so should be better next year. I had no problems with the showers and loos. I know some got blocked but if you stuff newspaper etc down them what do you expect (so Rule Number 1 – Bring your own Bog paper). It did take a little time to get used to the layout, but I like it. Long walk from Kitchener’s to the traders and elsewhere. It was hot (very hot) and there were plenty of places to get water (so Rule Number 2 – bring your own small water bottle). Also have it on good authority that there will be a bus(es) circling the site to enable people to see more of the show. The nights seemed quieter than at Beltring (or is it just me getting deaf ?) All food reasonable prices, bacon baguettes were good, if you want gourmet food then cook your own. Some great vehicles and living history displays, was the world record jeep line up achieved? So a big thumbs up and thank you to Rex and the team, who in reality only had six months to put the whole thing together. Roll on next year – I’ll be back Richard PS I sure there will be many more rules added
