  5. i've run electronic in my vehicles for about 8 years and have never had any troubles, i did have a coil fail once that Jolley supplied he did replace it FOC so cant grumble. We have fitted them to many vehicles such as dodges, GMC's etc and they all run very nicely with electronic ignition and as far as i know none of them have had issues. i have found that it works even better with the timing advanced a bot on the original timing marks, particularly effective on jeeps. i work on a couple stollys and a STAR 660 that have been fitted with jolleys unit and it has transformed them, they run so much better and start on the button now.
  6. Weekend of 3-5 of Feb. Few of us heading over this year, were taking the GTB, catching the ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre then driving the ol gal to Houffaliaze. fingers crossed for snow :-) and lots of it!!! http://www.bmvt.eu/sites/default/files/Cahier-central-news-10-2011.pdf
  7. MY OXC has the holes in the bottom of the chassis for bolting splash shields too. one either side of the engine that go the full length of the engine between the sump and chassis. i'll try to take a piccy of the one of the shields today as i have been making a replacement.
  8. collected the canvas today from Jim and Martin at Allied Forces, they have done a fantastic job, very happy. started fitting up the cab canvas this afternoon, all fitting spot on so far. some pics over the weekend.

    Sri Lanka

spotted a few more classics today at the air force museum. my favorite by far is the Pioneer, that was still is service until the 90's but is still kept in running driving condition by the museum, its in fantastic condition and still has the Gardner 6LW. the same can be said for the other vehicles they have, all in great condition and used around the museum. They have a lot of planes at the museum from local made drones to DC3's, and Helicopters from the very first Sikorsky's to Russian Hinds, it was well worth a visit. lots of 1950's and 60's British planes. They also have some relics from the Tamil Tigers such as the shot down Suicide plane from a couple of years ago and an MTLB that was destroyed by the air force. As well as a blown up JCB 3CX!
  10. I guess all went well then Paul? i'm glad its going to be saved, did he show you the other vehicles lying around?
  11. Fair play to ya mate, that's quite a project you got there, best of luck with it. will be a nice truck when its finished.
  12. came across this picture on another forum, thought it may be of interest on here. what truck is it?
  13. fear not, it has not been forgotten about, its in my dads shed and he is tinkering with the old girl slowly, its about ready to drive, all the scammel coupling gear is on, cab is finished, seats and steering box all in, new floor made etc. once my GTB is finished the Bedford will be moved into the workshop to be finished off, my excitement for the GTB mean the Bedford was sidelined, sad i know. hopefully in the new year i will have some more updates and pictures.
  14. slowly coming along, made the troop seats and started to make the hood bows. need to get 2 more hood bow corners if anyone has some lying around?

    Tyre

not much choice with this size, Mitas tyres make them for farm implements, last time i got some from my local tyre dealer they were £225 each. or speciality tires of america make repro's of the original british style, i think Jaap Rietveld keeps them in stock for about EURO 350 each! i got luck for my bedofrd and found a full set of very good second hand tyres. Good luck
  16. change of plan, were going to to go Portsmouth to Le Havre, then drive cross country to winter rally, cuts 200 miles of the journey and the ferry timings are favourable. only 622 mile round trip that way!
  17. work has continued at a slow pace, sorting the rear hoops and seats out, and working out a few niggly problems in preparation for the winter rally. taking the props off one at a time stripping and cleaning the uj's as i found some would not grease up properly due to hardened grease in the grease channels, slow work but worth the effort. got a winch chain, new winch wire coming next week.
  18. you beat me to it! i have an MB in post war british markings, now thats a rare sight!
  19. planning on taking the GTB next year, so will drive to dover along the coast, go on ferry to calais so i can have a bit of a rest then. we usually go via brussels as its the quickest route, but i found going via lille and mons to be a quieter route, so may go that way in the truck. its same route we took in the jeeps the Tanks in Town, im sure you remember that trip!
  20. 3-5 feb 2012, in Houffalize. were heading over with the GTB, you coming? http://www.bmvt.eu/sites/default/files/Cahier-central-news-10-2011.pdf

I can recommend Phillip Daintree in the UK for pistons rings, he has always been very helpful to me and always comes up with what i need. contact number is +44 1617664487. very much old school, no e-mail that i know of. best of luck with the project Cheers
  23. Thanks for the info Mike, will try them out.
  24. Anyone know of a supplier that may have imperial size wire rope (fibre cored ideally) available in the UK? i am after 1/2 wire rope for the GTB winch. so far can only find 12 or 13mm. its plentiful in the states but B****Y expensive to ship over!
  25. Just read the book, well worth a read. Also just read "The Forgotten Highlander", i would highly recommend reading it
