  1. Although originally written for problem solving in the Land Rover screened ignition system, there is a lot of information common to non-screened systems in other types of vehicles. There are now sections listing a large number of Lucas coils & how they are coded & how they are expected to perform. Also a section on the effects of heat on coil breakdown, information that I discovered myself that can't be found on the internet. For those who have waded through this before the main changes are on pages 2, 7, 9, 26, 37, 84, 85, 89, 90. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ngxlc9rvolb124l/BRIGHT%20SPARKS%20FOR%20LAND%20ROVER%20v1.03.pdf?dl=0

  3. Jack Hawkins managed this without a microphone it seems 1:30:50 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcHIVCbADn4
  4. Pete I think you mean RAOC. Stores would be split according to the nature of the stores. COD Chilwell - MT Organization COD Donnington - Warlike Stores Organization COD Didcot - General Stores Organization Each organisation having its own network of subsidiary stores. This was the system in 1952 so I doubt it had changed much from wartime.
  5. Unscrew the knob type cover of the Distribution Box No.1 Mk 1
  6. I thought they said the there was to be a firework display Sat night at which the public would be attending. Hence I suppose no MV movement through the entry/exit whilst the public were still around in quantity using the same access.
  7. No, no, no full of little gems. Where else would you read that despatch riders would be replaced by one-man helicopters?
  8. Well spotted although it isn't quite that simple. Volume 1 - Peace Volume 2 - War These were all buff but in 1962 Volume 2 was restructured having originally comprised 20 individual pamphlets, some were abolished, some amalgamated, some superseded. A new range of 26 pamphlets were introduced that included new topics & incorporated/updated earlier topics. Unfortunately only pamphlet numbers 1, 2 & 3 corresponded to the subject matter of the previous structure. To reduce confusion(!) the new range of pamphlets were coloured orange rather than buff. There was also Volume 3 that comprised at least 37 pamphlets. So those are all Regulations for Army Ordnance Services some were converted to or morphed into Manual of Army Ordnance Services. These assumed even more titles and even Volume 1 Pamphlet 2 was so large it had to be published in 7 separate parts. This has developed a further generation of publications in the form of Materiel Regulations for the Army, but of course those have become transposed or re-conceived into JSPs (Joint Service Publications) & so it goes on
  9. Well spotted Richard, although you are correct, it is not actually the reason for colour difference which was changed for a specific reason of identification.
  10. Here is this weeks little haul of RAOS. Some interesting nuggets, including this 1962 prediction: The keen observer will notice three have buff covers & one orange. There is a reason for this, anyone want to guess why?
  11. With a turret, the role & Establishment Code Number changes 0112 Liaison Mk 1 & 1/1 0122 LRV Mk 1/2 0130 Recce Mk 2/3, 2/4, 2/7 .3in MG 0135 Recce Mk 2/3 7.62mm GPMG
  12. I have a training publication that has pencil annotations of the colour on the diagrams of the filters Type A - Grey training purposes Type D - Black Type E - Light brown (I think that is an interpretation of red oxide) Type F - no colour given
  13. I've got an exploded diagram of the pump if you need it.
  14. Ok it just didn't seem a very robust closing device for an AFV. As you can the strap on the left of mine has had the popper stud pull through & it hasn't had much use from me, it was NOS dated 1956.
  15. The Code has been variously known as the Vehicle Code Number, Asset Code, VESPER Code, Forward Equipment Code, etc The first four digits form the Establishment Code Number & the last four define the make, model or mark. Lists of what they meant would appear in Equipment Regulations Pam No.8 then more readily in EMER MANAGEMENT J 022 Looking in the 1992 edition I see: 0112 4111 Ferret Mk 1/1 Liaison (VHF) 0112 4001 Ferret Mk 1/1 Liaison FV701J FFC (VHF) PS FFC = Fitted For Clansmen
  16. Is there any special significance for tool boxes that have catches with webbing? I have this small tool box.
  17. Can you clarify which distributor you have in your Ferret. It could be either No1 Mk 2/1 (AC Delco) or No 1 Mk 2 (Lucas)
  18. Nic I suppose if the rings were that vulnerable then they are not worth retaining. Perhaps buy an O ring selection box & see what you can match & then hunt in earnest for any remaining. (If stuck I have a good range of O rings that I got from a scrapyard as they had no value as they were only interested in metal). Below is a picture of the ram circa 1973. Not a lot of help I'm afraid. The pump & ram were upgraded in 1975 there are lots of NSNs but none of the component internals. 2590-99-821-8227 Pump, hydraulic 2590-99-821-7966 Ram, retraction
  19. Wanted to buy or copy examples of these RAOC publications please.
  20. Neil I phrased it badly, I shouldn't have used the word "these". I was just wondered whether the use of a crush washer would give you more latitude in terms of thickness.
  21. Nic it looks to be the same as in a Mk 2 Pig. I have the EMER with drawings of pump & ram if you get really stuck. The fluid is OM-13 There are three Allen screws on the top of the pump, is there not a hexagonal headed screw on the top in lower right hand corner hidden in the photo by the pump handle? That is the filler plug. PS You can dismantle the ram & replace the four O rings by removing the "internal circlip".
  22. Neil its not just my cynicism about iproducts but on most forums where people find they have posted an image upside down they say they are using an ipad Is it because you can set the viewing of an image so that it auto-corrects so that you always see the image the correct way round but the image itself may not be but it lets you see it the way you want it?
  23. Nic looking very good & very unique (although I suppose it can't be more unique that just unique) Anyone know why it is bit more than just another Pig? Thanks to the S6 thread I trawled around the Getty Images & found a picture of mine in service.
