  1. Nope the negative, assuming that the coil is a 10v Rover. Be aware that there are screened coils around that look identical for use on a few vehicles of the 1950s eg Rovers (!), Austins, Commers etc that were screened 12v & positive earth. Unfortunately terminals being identified as SW & CB is not very helpful as the coil polarity type is marked sticky tape. Anyway that is a side issue, it isn't the cause of your breakdown if it was running ok before
  2. Ian have you tried it since? Does it now run at all? I tend to think of faults in capacitor, points, coil, rotor arm, plugs, lead insulation breakdown. Can you remove the whole ignition system lock stock & barrel? If you bring it to Cobbaton this weekend I will be there & can have a range of equipment to test all the components in your system.
  3. From the RR workshop manual:
  4. Fine with me. It's the same colour as my screen saver, which is just solid green. At least it's plain at the sides & not full of adverts that you might find on some sites.
  5. This is a selection of just a few of the trouser sizing arrangements. You will see significant variation so size number is very specific to the particular trouser. The first example doesn't seem to take account of length!
  6. I'm afraid I don't have the relevant VAOS/COSA sections. But I do have the height, waist & seat measurements that relate to various other trousers that might give a very rough idea how sizes are structured. But of the various types of trouser comparing just one size can give variations of a couple of inches here & there. I can post some examples of size structures if you want.
  7. Yes I would have been disappointed if there wasn't.
  8. Sorry I somehow assumed it was a FV16003 I looked in FVRDE Spec 9533 & found this. If you can tell me the FV design I can see if I've got the spec for that. I think the screw jack would be more like this one.
  9. Crowbar & pick axe head. Don't know what goes in the looped bit, possibly a 4-ton screw jack?
  10. Howard Mk 1 3 x contracts Brockhouse, 2 x contracts Sankey Mk 2 1 x contract Brockhouse, 2 x contracts Sankey I have official detailed line drawings from all perspectives for both Mk 1 & Mk 2 including the different drawbar patterns.
  11. In VAOS J1 it was referred to as Lamps, pressure, hurricane, paraffin X246B is The Tilley Lamp Company item code now described in COSA as 6260-99-462-3182 Lantern, kerosene
  12. Sorry Wayne I haven't got the foggiest idea what it's for. Without checking through a CES document to identify it I cant reference it to a particular vehicle. However it may be used for more than one type of vehicle as the VAOS Section is LV6/MT13, rather than LV1, LV2, LV5, LV9 etc. Although I notice LV45/MT13 was once AFV tentage. Interestingly the NSC is 2540 - Vehicular furniture & accessories rather than most tentage that is 8340. Of course the above is just a smoke screen to the fact I dunno
  13. I have to ask, what is the date on your 8415-99-978-423?
  14. I've actually found the trousers. They were issued to father-in-law (RAF) circa 1980. Sadly the label has been ripped out, but there is a pen mark 22G 1357764 which of course translates to 22G/8415-99-135-7764 Looking in FAP1086 for 1988 & 1992 it mentions all the sizes of course. Yours is size No.2 22G/8415-99-135-7765. It is to Pattern No.35R/1671 and supercedes 22G/12222129/13. Now whether that was a different item or the supercession was just NATO codification I don't know. Moving to Chilwell stock in 1989 it is listed as CH/8415-99-135-7765 but no sign of 8415-99-978-423. Then in 1989 CH/8415-99-978-423 is listed as superceding 8415-99-135-7765. So somewhere between 1989 to 1999.
  15. You may well be right. I was just misled as the gate/bar seemed to be labelled as the barrier rather than the board resting on the floor.
  16. Just commenting on what it says in the book.
  17. Yes its interesting that you have to climb over the barrier in your underclothing rather than underneath it.
  18. Not specifically. But anyone got a date?
  19. Yes John it is indeed well done. I thought Richard was going to get there, but you pipped him at the post.:-D
  20. Not specified as that but might could always have been adapted for that maybe perhaps.
  21. Yes Nope but getting very very warm.
  22. Nope Tony I think the rubber studs misled you maybe.
  23. Ok more clues. Predominantly made of wood & not RAF or equine. Has another handle
