  1. Tony you'll have to humour me on this one. Who the hell is Schrodinger? What is he? Some sort of footballer, racing driver, golfer, someone from a "talent" show, politician, fashion icon? Sorry I have no idea. Anyway, the box is too small for a pussy cat or a catalytic convertor even
  2. Tony clearly something does fit in this case but not a vibration detector or anything microphonic. What it houses is not of a very advanced technology.
  3. Interesting line of thought, but it is nothing that is capacitance related.
  4. Nope but it is from a book that includes that sort of stuff as well. I can see what you're driving at, but nope.
  5. The original contract was: 2330-99-893-8609 Reynolds Boughton 2330-99-893-8610 Viking Trailers Ltd Subsequently also: 2330-99-893-9466 Universal Engineering
  6. It would certainly ensure your sandwiches didn't get squashed & the perforated zinc would help keep them cool whilst excluding the larger flies. But this was not the official purpose.
  7. Not really but it is supported in a docking bay on a mounting bracket. Yes Yes
  8. Alex yes different manufacturers & none of them Sankey
  9. Nope, all above ground. As for era this is pre-war.
  10. The upper part of the handle is clearly fixed. But I think the lower part is so constructed as to allow the strap end to slide out thus allowing the strap to lie flat. Although I can see no benefit for this to happen, in fact the opposite really as it would rest on the perforated zinc.
  11. Richard it's a lousy location for microwaves. Can't get a good enough run at the horizon for tropo-scatter, only reliable means would be rain scatter & yes conditions I assume are very good today! I've given my lathe away so not able to fabricate any components. Nowadays people seem to work on boards modifying satellite front ends & pay vast amounts for ready-made solid state transvertors. So I have all these TWTs & waveguide bits that nobody wants any more
  12. Alec you could probably get a petite pigeon in there, but that is not its intended purpose. I have no dimensions, one can only guess by the leather carrying handle. PS Not a specimen/sample transport box
  13. They are little devils aren't they Bernard! Not a rat box for that very reason:-D This is teak not just any old wood.
  14. Steve that's a nice feeling, I believe I have the oldest surviving Shorland & Pig.
  15. Trevor thank you for coming back. About 15 years ago I was talking to an enthusiast from IoW & he told me that on the island they had a prototype launcher for Orange William. I was excited that it might be a FV426 but I have since come to realise that such a launcher never progressed very far & the description didn't seem to match up to configuration of something from the FV421 series. So this must presumably be the launcher (of whatever missile) on the island. At approximately the same time I came across someone who had worked for the Min of Aviation & described firing Malkara test missiles from a launcher. He remembered very clearly the loading of a missile from within the tank & swinging it up ready for launch & simultaneously the opposing part of mechanism swung down, now empty of its missile ready for reload. He remembered this well as he was very wary of this process as it would have been easy to become seriously injured. But this butterfly launcher arm is exactly how the load/launch mechanism was to be on the Heavy Tank Destroyer FV4010. As far I know no FV4010 was ever constructed, only two launcher trailers to simulate the launch compartment in the proposed Centurion launcher. This seemed to be the view of Col Val Cockle (Malkara Project Liaison Officer) & Capt Peter Russell (EME for Malkara trials). Sadly neither are with us to ask anything further. So whether there are two entirely different tanks involved in GW trials I don't know. The FV4010 launch mechanism was to have been at the rear yet the IoW example was modified at the front. I have to declare that I know nothing about tanks, which does nothing to clarify the situation. But it would be nice to get clarification from IOWMM about the actual weapon under test, if indeed that they know for certain. It is not helped by the fact that both were HESH GWs of similar size & at a glance of similar configuration. Please keep us posted if you turn up anything.
  16. Thanks to the organisers. I enjoyed the show very much we were very lucky with the weather, no overt rain during daylight. It helped dampen the hay fever symptoms which were building up on Saturday. I can appreciate the disappointment from visitors today. I stayed until 1630 in fact it had got quite sunny by then. Lee there was a loud gun thing that was fired the afternoon. An advantage of staying to the end was to pick up items being sold off cheap by some traders. Given that Tuesday is a public holiday for most people I don't understand the necessity for many exhibitors & traders to clear off early on in the day. I could have understood it more if it was raining. Tried to examine the ignition systems of some WW2 "German" vehicles only to find one was a Land Rover & the other was a FV432 :cheesy: Bought some cheap new Dutch overalls (£3) & a nice selection of official manuals even including some in Gaelic :-D
  17. John thank you for coming back. I'll think I'll do a late entry on the day. I wasn't expecting to be free that weekend, which is why I didn't try to book any earlier. Circumstances have changed so that I probably can make it but not 100% sure yet!
  18. OK Thank you Lee. I'll try ringing although I see from the MVT calendar he is the Trade organiser. I always prefer to avoid ringing organisers because you never know if they are eating, bathing, on the lavatory or watching a good TV programme etc at least emails can be dealt with when the time is right. Not so long ago I emailed a show organiser for an entry form & the reply came back "How can I send you a form without an address?" So much for technology
  19. The vintage show field, Cambridge, Glos, GL2 7AB. Anyone going to this? Is it still on? I have tried several times to get a MV entry form but get no reply to emails.
  20. No such thing as a 1954 Humber Pig, not been invented then  Wrong steering wheel, stickers are inappropriate, seem to be missing all the rear seat belts & surely should tax disc not be on the nearside so that it can be scrutinised by traffic wardens from the the pavement? And just when was it restored? Are these actually recent pictures? I would have liked to have seen the engine bay & some of what's underneath to confirm that is not just a nice paint job. All those points above are trivialities really. On the positive side looks pretty complete, still has fittings for EARP, the Trakmark upholstery looks complete & good, nice to read that it has DBG over the red oxide & then the top coat of OD which is entirely appropriate for the 1970s. Would be nice to know the "very interesting military history". Would also be nice to know the price. I hate these adverts that invite a phone call which I assume is for the seller to judge the thickness of your wallet. Having said that it knocks spots of the last two Mk 2 Pigs that have surfaced on the auction site. If you wanted a Mk 1 there is a very interesting one on there now.
