  1. He,s just read out my second text
  2. Ah so you got home ok. I am in the Pig at the moment exchanging texts to the radio station try to get request played for Pig, by Gorki Borchek. Signed by B.Sagadiev. He,s not twigged yet. Read out one semi illiterate text so far.:-D:-D
  3. Welcome. BTW that was me who rang you a couple of days ago
  4. Ian I suspect the reflectors are just faded red ones. I have a VAOS, admittedly 1952, but it lists only one type & indicates that it is not primarily a military spec. "To Ministry of Transport regulation. Fitted with eight 3/4in rubby reflex lenses. For fitting to rear of all trailers."
  5. FVRDE visit to SA 9-25 May 1956 here's a taster.
  6. Probably not, these were all in South Africa in 1956 :-D
  7. Jasper on the pictures I have of it, the previous owner has illegally spaced the registration as YF O8 64 which in the UK should be displayed YFO 864. This is the civilian registration. I think you will find the chassis plate for this reads 32396. You will find the plate when you look at the vertical face of the chassis when you look at the passenger's side. With your head in front of the front wheel & the wing & barricade ram on the left of your head. The plate is 6in long x 3in high. It should show the military registration as 23 BK 96.
  8. It doesn't seem to like such a small word. I have also tried with "Pig" & there were no results. Put in "Humber Pig" & got lots of hits. I tried "FoxFox" & "Fox Fox" but it wasn't impressed by those either.
  9. I have a little bit of history on these: 32 BA 65 32 BA 56 32 BA 63 79 BA 59 79 BA 58 32 BA 67 79 BA 56 32 BA 57 79 BA 67 32 BA 68 96 BA 55 79 BA 95 81 BA 33
  10. Is this real & if so how will it effect us, especially if it seems retrospective? http://www.the-ace.org.uk/armageddon/
  11. Sorry to hear that Wayne, but look on the bright side you do have a Pig & a Toastie.
  12. Gordon, good point I hadn't thought of that reason.
  13. Thank you for the pictures. I hadn't considered that the whole ignition system might be screened off. That looks easy to manufacture & avoids the problem I'm about to describe. What is I was looking for was whether any systems had screened cables, ie coaxial HT cable. Because with that comes capacitance that has to be 'charged up' by the HT & energy lost. To off set this the HT can be 'boosted' by reducing the time constant of the circuit by loading it with resistance & using a lower voltage coil. I've studied a Dingo & although it is comprehensively screened & filtered there is no ballast resistor. Richard has pointed out that in the late part of the war the Canadians had started to use a ballast resistor in a screened ignition on a carrier. So I'm just wondering whether this 1941 Berlin document marks the first use of a screened & ballasted system before anyone else?
  14. 2 WH = 2 Wheeled NSN = NATO Stock Number http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/NATOparts.pdf Not thick at all, it takes a while to untangle things
  15. That NSN equates to a number of part numbers & sources: 16D3119 - RAF part no for MT roller bearings 217269 - Land Rover 359S354A - British Timken 359S354X - British Timken GHB162 - Rover K359SK354A - SKF
  16. Yes the Asset Code 2855 0790 pins it down. "No. V236" should read FV2361, so this is not a wide track which would be FV2381 Your bearing is:
  17. Ok Mr Salt you have a FV2381, but can you define which Mk you have? Or give the NSN, Asset Code or contract to pin it down precisely.
  18. Bernard good to see you both on here. I have appreciated the photos you have sent my way in recent years.
  19. FV1612 FFW Struck off BAOR 19/8/70 Recovered Ludgershall 4/7/72 for NI as FV1611 role & uparmoured in Op Bracelet Later fitted with RPG protection in Op Kremlin 13/9/94 Struck off to "MIT2 ARMD J WELLS" (whatever that means!)
  20. Been using Panda GP for many years on both our PCs. http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/
  21. The clue of course is in the VAOS Section LV2 :-)
  22. 27 BK 36 FV1612 FFW Struck off BAOR 9/5/68 . You can see it is still FFW & not been upgraded to FFR as the 4th antenna base on the rear offside (UK offside!) is absent. My old Pig was BAOR but the Union Flag was at the apex above the rear doors.
  23. Right ok. Sold off at Ruddington 10/6/69 sold for £55. Recovered to 38 Central Workshops 17/11/72 Struck off 28/4/94 as a range target. Dooh that sounds familiar already done this one! Sorry
  24. A good demonstration of the positioning the high vis red patches on all types of vehicle. Still sheet steel visors, no ram operated vision blocks yet. June 1973, good to have a date mark because I can see it is pre-Sept 1973. This was the date when the plate for supporting the base for VHF whip for the Pye W15 was fitted to the roof rear offside. Also pre-August 1973 when Major Pearce's adjustable mount for the Discharger Smoke Grenade No11 Mk 1 was fitted to the mid front near side roof over the circular aerial downlead port (already present on all Pigs) Can't make out if it is 23 BK 60 or 23 BK 80. Both were FV1612 FFW converted to FV1611 role & uparmoured. I see it has no extractor fans. Appears to have no comms. Although the side-on Pig is clearly on HF judging by the length of the two whips. Despite the arrival of the VHF Pye Westminsters later on in the year there was a delay in them being operational due to problems with the delivery of the correct crystals.
  25. Matt yes these in service pictures are wonderful. I take very few pictures of preserved vehicles being wary of what is real & what ain't. Pigs are very reasonably priced you know!
