  2. Found these pics of a pontoon bridge built on Stanley Park Lake 22-23 Aug 1945 .Can anyone tell me please why they would build it when its a small distance to walk round to the other side.? :coffee:

  9. One of the teachers, was due to retire the week later!!!!! (very sad event mate )
  10. Yes it was called the Sad Sack cafe,there were not many us airmen in that morning tho because the weather was bad.The americans paid for the funerals and the memorial. At least 7 civilians,36 school children,2 teachers,4 sergeants from the RAF,7 civillians in cafe,10 american service men including pilot and crew(B-24 Liberator known as Classy Chassis) .Bing Crosby came to see the injured in the B.A.D hospital, and was said to be very upset seeing the survivors injuries, epecially the childrens.
  11. i worked with a lady who lost her brother in it , i know what you mean mate .I worked for 2 years on the site of area 9 which was on the airbase during ww2,the atmosphere in the early mornings there when i used to open up was eerie to say the least.

  18. we have had a lot of wires from our jeep wiring thru army boot laces , just thought i would mention it .:coffee:
  19. We run wires inside army shoe laces as they are olive drab.It makes the engine bay look tidier,and the wire look older .Hope this idea suits your cable .:coffee:
  20. The munga is coming to bits slowly(due to illness).Everthing is being labelled and noted where it goes.Hopefully wont be long before the body is off.
  21. Can anyone out there tell me please what this is off? was told years ago it was off an ambulance(dodge) .The arm of it goes through something(A post, body etc) then the light on the end is turned by operating the round button on the end.

  23. Love the old pics , (dad been collector for years ) anyone got any of Blackpool(airport , old Blackpool)Dad told me years ago about the first world war tank burried here, any one pics of it? theres at least one post card of it out side Blackpool town hall,which was issued a long time ago.
