  1. I was discharged from a REME workshops in 1958........... just checked if my time as a reservist as expired.... I would like to do it all again....... thats how good it was.
  2. Your English is fine, welcome to the friendly forum. France is a lovely country, I have always enjoyed my visits and been made very welcome by the French people.
  3. I cant quite understand the concerns over fuel economy, if a group of you are sharing the running costs. If only five people are involved, the GMC will return a minimum of 8 mpg x 5 equals 40mpg, thats better than a lot of family cars and it sounds right (The GMC engine sounds very sweet) With a little careful planning and preventive maintenance the whole thing should be a real hoot. Most guys would give an arm and a leg to do it. Have fun, and do tell us all about it on your return.
  4. I think that I would definitely plumb for the Dodge Weapons Carrier, Like all vehicles they need to be in good mechanical condition and well maintained, spares and recovery are always a sensible thing to do. I own a GMC 353 rag top, I have driven several Weapons Carriers and always found them to be bullet proof..... Given that there is a group of you, what the hell......... I wish that I was going. Good luck and have fun.
  5. I have a Harley/Davidson WLC 750 s/v a BSA M20 500 sv a 2000 Indian built Royal Enfield 350 ohv and a 1942 Royal Enfield WD CO 350 ohv........... and the WD.CO easily out performs the other 3 bikes, and the gearbox is fabulous, Enfields own box, not a clunky Burman.....
  6. If you listen to one go by you will understand why it got that name, and when you change gear you will think that the gear box fell to bits............ its got a real sound that cannot be duplicated by any other vehicle. We used them in Germany in the 1950s, if you were a passenger in the back, you would not believe the racket that it made when changing gear.
  7. That is one of the reasons that we are introducing maintenance classes at our monthly meetings, particularly during the winter months when we have little or no show related business to conduct. Then it will be up to our safety officers to ensure that that acquired knowledge is being implimented, Its not just a matter of complying with the law, its very much about responsibility for what really is a privilage, not a right to use the public highway. Its now more important than ever that we ALL adopt the correct attitude to our responsibilities, making the task of the appointed safety officer(s) more vital than ever. I would like to think that the MVT would be viewed by the authorities as leaders in that responsibility.
  8. Thats all worked out very nicely, well done to all concerned.
  9. Oil leaks are more easily seen on the light green paint.
  10. Followed a GMC 353 heading south on the A50, it turned right into Alsager village. It looked absolutely magnificent, it could have just rolled off the production line.
  11. I suspect that this is the most likely cause, heat passing the valve will generate considerable heat.
  12. If they will just drop it by 2p per litre I have worked out that I can get a full 38 mtrs per GALLON further if I just feather the accelerator along the flat........... should I get excited ??
  13. I wonder if he was done for obstruction?????
  14. I told him to ignore the damned Sat Nav.........

Thought that this might be of some interest.
  16. I knew that the field had only been sown with grass seed the autumn of 1993, I told our group that if they had any heavy rain during their stay on site, then it was sure to be a mud bath, some of our group still went of course, but the rest of us opted for a very dry site in Carentan........ we had a fantastic time, as I am sure everyone else did. mud or no mud.
  17. I suspect that the white bumpers would be a post war application in an effort to make the vehicle less likely to be shunted after dark.
  18. The clutch is definitely stuck, before you do anything else, put her in 3rd gear, hold the clutch pedal down whilst a couple of your buddies rock you gently back and forth, make sure that you keep the clutch pedal down at all times whilst rocking back and forth.
  19. If you loosen the injetor pipes at the injectors to help with the bleeding, lock them all back down once the fuel can be seen at each injector, if you try to tighten them when you have the motor running you may blow off olives before they can be "pinched".
