I seem to remember that they were very good at getting someone else to make the tea, they tell me that it stems from a misplaced sense of superiority........... after all it was only Rough Engineering Made Easy. REME:cool2:

Hi, my name is Ray, I am ex-REME, I served in West Germany 1956 /58 5.Armoured Workshops. Hamm. I still meet with my army buddies each year ( Just had our 50th re-union.) I have been a member of the MVT for approximately 20 years. I own the following vehicles. 1944 GMC 353 CCKW (Rag Top) 1944 White M3 Halftrack, M201 Jeep, 1943 Harley Davidson WLC, 1943 Royal Enfield WD. CO. 350cc, I have never lost my love of all things green............. I am now 72 years old......... wish that I could do it all again!!!!!:cool2:
  5. I do believe that you are correct when you state that its the vehicles unladen weight that qualifies it for exemption , that is 3.5tonnes and pre 1960, indeed you cannot carry a load if the vehicle is taxed M.o.T. exempt, again raising the issue of insurance should you be carrying a load............ double check things if in doubt, it could be very expensive, not just for you, but also for our hobby in general.:kissoncheek:
  6. Hi was stationed with REME 1956 / 58 5.Armoured Workshop, Hamm, Westphalia, West Germany. I drove ( on a part time basis ) a Bussing Nag coach ( 52 seater ) it was a fantastic piece of machinery and I loved to drive it, if you ever get the chance to drive one.......... grab it with both hands.
  7. The 352 short wheel base closed cab is a fabulous looking truck, I would like one of them to go with my 353 long wheel base rag top..... that would make me a happy bunny, never satisfied are we????.:cool2:
  8. Thanks Paul, we really are looking forward to our next visit........ see you all soon. Ray.:cool2:
  9. Right hand drive????????? or taken through a mirror perhaps.:kissoncheek:
  10. Probably some bored squadie with time on his hands.:cool2:
  11. Anyone who has not been to the show at Ashdown Camp should really make the effort, its one of the most friendly and relaxed shows that we have ever attended. The camp set-up is absolutely superb and the reception extended to ourselves was second to none. I look forward to visiting again along with my friends from the North Staffs Area.:cool2:
  12. You are absolutely right.....I do need to pull my finger out, I purchased a gas firing 50cal to go with the 2 x 30cals.... fancy that she might cause a bit of a stir now at shows, I will have to get my son to pitch-in and give me some help...... I do fire her up regularly. It never fails to amaze me how quickly that they fire-in, even after several weeks standing, obviously the fuel does not vapourize from the bowl like Jeeps and Jimmy`s. Some of my fellow enthusiasts think that when I open the door to the M.3 that the headlights seem to blink in the bright light................... so you can imagine, I am getting a lot of flack, I must try to restore my standing in this area......... before someone starts writing to the magazine.:cool2:
  13. Very nice pic`s....... makes me want to get my M3 out, I must make the effort. I have become so used to taking my Jimmy, Jeep or motorcycle, obviously getting idle, I think that its an age thing.:cool2:
  14. The trick is really in the throttle......... dont use it...... low reving and feathering the throttle will give you the best mpg, amazes me how many people thrash a jeep up through the gears ......... big engine, 2.2 ltr... does`nt need it.:cool2:
  15. Expensive canvas is still much cheaper than metal........ its the room that I like in the rag top, but then I would I have one...... I have to confess that if I had to go on a long trip in the depths of winter I would have to take the closed cab!!!!!!! just goes to prove really that they both have their +s and -s. Its the doors with there regular maintenance that bothers me....... it would be O.K. if you had one from new, you could make sure that you looked after the door inners.
