  1. Rub a candle up and down the zip a few times, John.
  2. German WWII vehicles were much too overengineered. For instance, the kettenkrad had two needle roller bearings for each track, the narrow track base made it very unstable on any sloping ground, I used to own one and in my opinion it wasnt much use. The germans could learn a lot from USA engineers as regards to dry pin tracks as opposed to their vastly overcomplicated track bearings. John.
  3. You can wire them up inside the rear nearside locker to the trailer socket, thats what I have done, John.
  4. drive some copper nails into the trunk at ground level. It worked for me. John.
  5. The info I previously gave is from a set of jeep emers and is correct. Clive took a copy of my files and if in doubt you can check mup with him. I tried to put the page on here as an attachment but was refused as it was too large. John.
  6. In answer to your question I have just been looking through my EMERS regs for Jeeps and it states, Min. compression at starter speed with engine warm 105lb./sq.in. John.
  7. While Major Hurst was in charge of the VW factory they built 6 Schwimmwagens from the bits and pieces found in the factory. The one I used to own had the build year of 1946. This one ended up in the REME museum at Borden and was sold by them in about 1970 to Andrew Mollow. Bapties, the film hire people bought it and then sold it to me in 1982. The picture shown of Major Hurst going down a slope may well be the one I used to owqn, because if you look you will see that the piece between the front and rear wing is about 4 inches wide insteat of the normal tophat section. My schwimmer also had this 4 inch wing, see attached picture, John.
  8. 3 Clark CA-1 dozers with their scraper boxes were used to enlarge the Chindits landing ground, code named white City, I think thats the right name, these were glider landed and operated by U.S. engineers. John.
  9. 80th.Div. my info is correct and not speculation. John.
  10. Formation sign for British 80th. Div, They had a training and draftfinding role. Hence the sign a troop ship badge. John.
  11. Originaly jeeps were not fitted with indicators and therefor will pass mot without them, same as windscreen wipers. John.
  12. The only evidence of a Corgi in military service is a picture of one on an Aircraft Carrier being ridden by a PO. I also think that a couple were included in the Royal Signals MC display team. They may have been a private purchase. The Papoose (Corgi) were a post WWII derivitave of the war time Welbike. Designed by the same person. Welbikes used the Villiers 98cc engine and the Corgi used an excelsior spryte Engine. Therefor no Papoose could have been used in WWII. John.
  13. No I cannot see a tracking device fitted anywhere, Lagos here we come.
  14. Go into ebay (USA) go to ebay motors, go along and find military vehicles. Plenty come up on the USA site. But beware some of them look great until you look closly at the pictures especially ones of the engine bay. It seems to be that they get the outside looking good and ignore the authicinty of the engine bay can be a mess. John.
  15. If thats the case, why have my front jeep wheels had to have ballance weights to lessen the steering chatter. John
  16. You cannot pin the cast within the dis. tunnel. You have to disassemble the engine and a good engineer will ream out the dis. tunnel and insert a phosper bronze sleeve and pressure fit it with araldite to stop any leaks. My jeep was reconed. this way 20 plus years ago and have travelled all over NW Europe without any problem John.
  17. One of my jeep wheels stud holes were badly worn and i bought some oversize wheel nuts from Tony Sudds. They worked a treat. John.
  18. you need to start with the basics- first, is the clutch free, sit in and depress the clutch and see if you can engage any gear, or see if you can find neutral. If you find neutral, fine. Next the engine, is it free. Remove all plugs and put spanner on the starting handle nut and try turning it. If turning, fine. Go to Halfords and buy a compression tester, contact jeep parts sellers and buy a starting handle, makes life much easier for cranking round the engine. If it was my Jeep and it had been standing for a long time then the only correct way to recommision it would be to remove engine , strip it and check all the innards. Its no good worring about fuel lines, electrics or anything else at the beginning. If you need to clarify anything contact me. John.

  23. You will also see that British jeeps had the side lights on the wings instead of the American pattern side lights within the grill, John.
