  1. All the military wheels for the 10cwt.trailor have 6 stud wheels. Yours appears to have 3 stud wheels and I think that it would have been used by the fire service or another civil defence group. John.
  2. These series of pictures show the variety and mods. of vehicles used by the Kinema corps whilst showing films is Thesolinica,Greece in 1946. There is I think someone on this forum who is interested in army films, so I hope he finds these interesting. John
  3. Just tried to download pictures of the schwimmer, that worked in a roundabout way. as you can see the dashboard is not original but basically it was a sound machine. John.
  4. They were never made with doors, the doors in this one were cut into it to de/militarise it and then when baptys bought it and used it for film hire they roughly welded up the doors. Below are two pictures when I bought it in 1990. John. tried to put them up but the picture format has changed, not for the better, so no idea how to show pictures, why alter a perfictly good system.
  5. At one time that one with the doors in the side belonged to me. After the war it was used by boar hunters and was bought by M. Dinely, I bought it from him, I have pictures of it somewhere and will post them. John.
  6. on warrelics.eu there is a very comprehensive thread on the WWII airborne trailer. I have one so if you want any detailed pics please ask. John.
  7. Find yourself a fairly long screwdriver, with wooden handle if possible. Start up the engine and put the end of screwdriver to the sump, valve cover and anywhere else you choose and put the handle to your ear and the sound will be magnified and you should be able to trace where the knocking is coming from. A method well tried to tune twin SU carbs also. John.
  8. Do you mean the small dog. Did it morph into Jack or was he guiding the Tank. Hope things go better at the tank fest. John.
  9. Sorry to disagree with you Jack, but when you go to Stonleigh you are the public and you are paying to go in and look around the stalls. If you take a vehicle to a show you are not the paying public but an exhibitor and the public are paying to see them as well as going round the stalls. Many years ago some pright sparks wanted to have an MV show at Wincanton and asked me to bring my Bren Carrier. Knowing that this was a mony making outfit with nothing going to charity I said my fees would be the same as I received for film hire, i.e. £250 per day plus mileage both ways. Every one I knew said the same. Result no show and nothing in the pockets of a bunch of chancers. I will never go to a show if I am expected to pay for the privilage, we have been offered petrol money by the Branscombe Air Day, but this is a charity event and we have refused to accept the money. John.
  10. If you want to see lots of WWII tanks that have been discovered in Eastern Europe as well as all sorts of weapons and equiptment go to www.warrelics.eu. John.
  11. On the picture that shows the front of a bren carrier you can see the formation sign for the 1st. Polish Armoured Division. They landed in Normandy and took part in the hard fighting around the Falaise Gap.Standing their ground on Mont Ormel and fighting off all comers including SS and German Para Units. This hill has a monument on top to these gallant Poles. The second pic. of a bren carrier appears to be a flamethrowing version, I am not sure but hope someone will have an idea. John.
  12. You only have to watch the program, A Life of Grime, to see the houses and yards being totally cleared of goods and chattles left behind or dumped. Nowhere has it being said on the program that the council contacted the people that left the "rubbish" behind to give them fair warning of their destruction. I would have thought that no legal advice or quotations should be on this forum. The only place to obtain legal advice is through a solicitor and not from some Barrack room lawyer on here. John.
  13. After seeing the pictures posted by Alan Turner I think that is the type of saw I would find very useful, thanks Alan. I suspect that the remains I have bought will end up as spares for WWII lightweight Trailer. If anyone knows of a Running Military saw bench for sale please let me know. John.
  14. Wonderful pictures Les, thanks very much. John.
  15. Thanks for the info Clive, I think I am more confused than ever. I had better get it home and thes can better evaluate what I have bought. John.
  16. When I get it home I will measure the blade, thanks,John
  17. Sorry Richard just the bare bones left, no engine just the 6 stud wheels, axle and springs and the A frame with WWII type tow hitch. I thought for £20 it was worth saving. Too heavy to lift out of skip on my own so will go next week with Hiab and collect it and will post pics. Thanks for your interest, John.
  18. I have just bought the very sad remains of a WWII circular saw bench. In the data book of Army Transport 1939-1945 it is listed on page704 as Trailor 2 wh.Lightweight circular saw without any pictures. Please can anyone on here supply me with any pictures of a complete one and any other info. The wheels are of the 6 stud type as used on the jeep "Airborne" trailer and the tow hitch is the same as on the aforementioned trailer. It is still in the skip where I found it and as soon as I get it home I will post some pictures of it. John.
  19. Richard, after reading your post I have to admit I was wrong. All these yeare I allways understood the facts to be as I posted. On looking up Wireless stations No. 62 for something quite unrelated to this thread I found this diagram of the fittings carried in a Jeep. Note Everest carrier on the top rear. John. The War Office publication is dated April 1945
  20. I now think the background to the 61 should be green. The 4th. Dorsets were in 130 infantry brigade of the 43 rd. Wessex Div. The 130th. Brigade were the second brigade within the 43rd and therefore the background I think is green. The number 61 would be their tac. no. within that brigade. john.
  21. Standing in front of the jeep and looking at the windscreen, the Wessex Wyvern is on the right side and 61 on red background on left, reverse of this on rear bumpers. John
  22. One thing you have also got wrong, Mt. Everest wasnt conquered until 1953 by Hillary. The back packs they used were the aluminium army frame ones. That is why they are called everest frames. John.
