Poptopshed Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Been removing the glass and needle gunning the cab of the Stolly and we have found this marking on both sides of the cab. Any ideas on its meaning? It looks like it has been over painted ontop of a previous but same marking. Also it has a patch of red oxide paint under each of the sliding side windows that isnt present anywhere else on the cab. Looks as if something has been removed or sanded back then a quick coat of primer before re-painting in Green? Any suggestions on either welcome. Cheers Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Red oxide patches might be either corrosion or, more likely, where some has walloped it against a relateively immovable object - like the back of another Stalwart..... Quote
Poptopshed Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Cant see it being damage, as there is one exactly the same on the other side. Thanks Bazz. Will get Grumpy to look into it further as he plans on sending of for the history. Cheers. Quote
Bazz Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 If it's come from an RAC/Inf regiment it could have been used as a UBRI vehicle in the A1 echelon. Quote
Poptopshed Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 It could well have been a UBRE, Was tempting Grumpy to put a bid on the set of tanks and pump they had in the last Witham Tender. Quote
fv1609 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Maybe it had Unit markings, that were subsequently removed in a heavy handed way? Or maybe it was UBRE & the fuel hazard signs were removed in a similar way? Quote
Poptopshed Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Once again Clive your outstanding. That top pic would fit the bill perfectly.: Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 (edited) Don't ever recall seeing the fuel hazard signs on the sides of a cab!! Seen MK's and Stalwarts fitted out thus over in BAOR in the late Seventies and thefuel hazard warnings were on the front and rear only... And removable... Could well have been , as Clive says, a VERY heavy handed removal of a Corps or Divisional marking.... If she was a UBRE fitted Stolly look at the inside face of the exhaust stack; somewhere near the joining flange on the upper section should be a bolt head with a brass plate above it marked "UBRE Earthing Point".
