ArtistsRifles Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 Helicopter looks like the experimental Cierva W9:confused: 1) Close enough - its the Weir W9 Fighter with turret is a Hawker Hotspur. Correct sir!! Quote
radiomike7 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Is no. 2 a Burnelli flying fuselage?? We are both right on the heli; Weir designed it, Cierva built it:coffee: Quote
radiomike7 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Supermarine Spiteful? I think it might be the Seafang version. Quote
radiomike7 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) 6 engined canard bomber looks similar to the Vickers Superbomber concept. To the right of it is another Vickers concept, the Windsor. Edited August 31, 2008 by radiomike7 Wet Sunday, bored, on standby for work. Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) Is no. 2 a Burnelli flying fuselage?? Close enough again - it's a Bristol-Burnelli OA-1 Supermarine Spiteful? Sorry mate - not this one!! Mike has got it below with the SeaFang - the contra-rotating props give it away!! I think it might be the Seafang version. 6 engined canard bomber looks similar to the Vickers Superbomberconcept. That's the beast- Vickers C Type 100 ton Bomber. Status thus far then is: 1 - Hawker Hotspur 2 - Bristol-Burnelli OA-1 3 - ? 4 - Supermarine SeaFang 5 - Vickers C Type 100 ton Bomber. 6 - ? 7 - Weir W9 8 - ? ArtistsRifles Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 OK - that's #6 down! You're getting too good Mike!! 1 - Hawker Hotspur 2 - Bristol-Burnelli OA-1 3 - ? 4 - Supermarine SeaFang 5 - Vickers C Type 100 ton Bomber. 6 - Vickers Windsor 7 - Weir W9 8 - ? Quote
ferrettkitt Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Number 3 is a Short Sturgeon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_Sturgeon Andy Quote
ferrettkitt Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) My first thought on photo number eight was that it was an Armstrong Whitworth product turned not to be so. I then had a feeling that it might relate to the Air minstry inviting designs for a heavy bomber which eventually lead to the Avro Manchester, Handley Page Halifax and the Short Stirling. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermarine_Type_317 The Supermarine Type 318 see http://freespace.virgin.net/john.dell/AArt2.htm The picture shows the same engine cowl design as used on the Whitley and Halifax. ArtistsRifles Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Number 3 is a Short Sturgeon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_Sturgeon Andy Thats right!! My first thought on photo number eight was that it was an Armstrong Whitworth product turned not to be so. Andy Close enough I think - it's a Supermarine B12 "Suffolk" - one prototype built which was destroyed in an air raid. Final answers then are: 1 - Hawker Hotspur 2 - Bristol-Burnelli OA-1 3 - Short Sturgeon 4 - Supermarine SeaFang 5 - Vickers C Type 100 ton Bomber. 6 - Vickers Windsor 7 - Weir W9 8 - Supermarine B12 Suffolk Quote
