Poptopshed
Last year Grumpys Militant was given a 3 day speedy make over to try to rid it of yellow paint :shake: and give it a healthy green glow. As it was such a rush we are now going to go back over the work done last year and fix alot of the problems that were ignored/painted over/gaffer taped then painted over. Biggest issue is rot in the cab floor and rot and dents in the wings. Wings were removed first by Grumpy and Simon. Looks a bit odd and it tried to hide behind Si's Militant project. :-D The rot has been caused by a double skinned section at the back of the wing where the mudflap is attached. First wing cut out ready for welding. Grumpy mid weld. We rolled the steel over a scaffold tube to get a curve into it before welding. One done, Grumpy started on the other wing and i started on the prep for painting. Took a whole morning just to strip it back. Needle gunned the under side and sanded the top. Some filler to finish off and its ready for paint. The other wing needs some serious hammer abuse, the rolled edge has been squashed flat. Last night we got the front of the truck up on axle stands and got the front wheels off so we can get at the underside of the cab floor. They are stupidly heavy wheels. Will attack it again this weekend as its due to be at Cosford airshow on the 1st.
